Effect of Exercise on Salivary pH, Amylase, Mucin, and Total Protein Concentration of Unstimulated Whole Saliva in Pakistani Cohort
No full textObjective: To assess the effects of physical exercise on salivary pH, amylase, mucin, and total protein concentration. Material and Methods: Saliva samples were collected from 34 participants (21 males, 13 females) at four time points: rest (control), moderate-intensity exercise, high-intensity exercise, and recovery (post-30 min rest). Salivary pH was measured using a pH meter, while amylase, mucin, and total protein concentrations were analyzed using ELISA. Results: Salivary pH remained stable throughout. Amylase levels significantly increased (p<0.05) post-moderate (males: 85.66 ± 2.79 units/mL; females: 85.46 ± 2.36 units/mL) and high-intensity exercise (males: 104.42 ± 1.91 units/mL; females: 103.69 ± 2.05 units/mL), declining during recovery. Mucin levels also rose significantly (p<0.05) post-moderate (males: 3.99 ± 0.79 mg/mL; females: 3.95 ± 0.73 mg/mL) and high-intensity exercise (males: 4.57 ± 0.68 mg/mL; females: 4.52 ± 1.07 mg/mL), then decreased in recovery. Total protein concentration followed a similar trend, increasing post-moderate (males: 2.80 ± 0.62 mg/mL; females: 3.95 ± 0.73 mg/mL) and high-intensity exercise (males: 3.94 ± 1.04 mg/mL; females: 3.63 ± 0.59 mg/mL), then declining during recovery. Conclusion: Moderate and high-intensity exercise significantly increased salivary amylase, mucin, and total protein levels, while salivary pH remained unaffected
Self-Perception of Dental Surgeons Regarding Academic Training for Oral Health Care of People with Disabilities: A Cross-Sectional Study
No full textObjective: To investigate the self-perception of dental surgeons regarding academic training for oral health care of people with disabilities (PWD). Material and Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted with a sample of 160 public and private dental surgeons from a Brazilian municipality. A semi-structured questionnaire with open and closed questions was administered to investigate the socioeconomic and demographic aspects, professional training, professional knowledge of the health rights of PWD, and relationships with PWD. Chi-square or Fisher\u27s exact tests, along with a multiple logistic regression model, were used for data analysis at a significance level of 5%. Results: Almost 70% (n = 112) of professionals had training in the care of PWD. Professionals who had specific training during their undergraduate studies (AOR = 3.660; 95% CI = 1.169-11.467; p=0.026), who developed community activities in this period (AOR = 9.968; 95% C I= 1.887-52.639; p=0.007), who showed aptitude for providing oral health services (AOR = 4.155; 95% CI = 1.563-11.045; p=0.004), as well as for the behavioral management of these people (AOR = 2.808; 95% CI = 1.096-7.195; p=0.031) were more likely to have their self-perception regarding professional training being adequate for oral health care for PWD. Conclusion: Self-perception of academic training in caring for people with disabilities was associated with some variables related to training during undergraduate studies and work experience, but there are still gaps in knowledge of the rights of people with disabilities to oral health among Brazilian dentists
DAVID HUME E A SUBVERSÃO DO DISTANCIAMENTO AMBIENTAL: : A EMPATIA COMO UM FUNDAMENTO ÉTICO
No full textWhen dealing with environmental issues and considering nature in a holistic and relational way, contemporary environmental ethics must transcend the field of rationality and objectivity and move along new paths that embrace emotions. The aim of this work is to establish connections between David Hume\u27s ideas and environmental issues, allowing for new developments in the construction of an environmental ethics based on emotions. To this end, the following steps will be undertaken: (i) revisiting the work A Treatise of Human Nature, with a special focus on Books II and III, where the Scottish philosopher addresses the elements of passions (emotions) and morals. Subsequently (ii), an effort will be made to relate Hume\u27s arguments about the importance of emotions in rational decisions to environmental issues, particularly highlighting the role of empathy in these relationships, which should be considered under a more systemic and complex understanding. Finally, using the epistemological arguments of Hume about the formation and association of ideas and relating them to the environmental issue can favor an approximation of our historical distance from nature and the possibility of emergence of a feeling of environmental belonging. This connection with nature can reduce the distances between beings and with the natural environment and enable emotions emerging from the relationship with nature to be more fluid and contiguous.Ao se tratar das questões ambientais e considerar a natureza de forma holística e relacional, a ética ambiental contemporânea deve transcender o campo da racionalidade e da objetividade e transitar por novos caminhos que abarcam as emoções. O objetivo deste trabalho é estabelecer aproximações entre as ideias de David Hume e as questões ambientais, permitindo novos desenvolvimentos para a construção de uma ética ambiental fundamentada nas emoções. Para tal, inicialmente será revisitada (i) a obra Tratado da Natureza Humana, com foco especial nos Livros II e III, onde o filósofo escocês aborda os elementos das paixões (emoções) e da moral. Posteriormente (ii), buscar-se-á relacionar os argumentos de Hume sobre a importância das emoções nas decisões racionais com as questões ambientais, destacando especialmente o papel da empatia nessas relações, que devem ser consideradas sob um entendimento mais sistêmico e complexo. Enfim, usar os argumentos epistemológicos de Hume sobre a formação e associação das ideias e relacioná-los com a questão ambiental pode favorecer uma aproximação de nosso distanciamento histórico com a natureza e a possibilidade da emersão de um sentimento de pertença ambiental. Essa conexão com a natureza pode diminuir as distâncias entre os seres e com o ambiente natural e possibilitar que emoções emergidas da relação com o natural consigam ser mais fluídas e contíguas
THE VOCATION OF THE TEACHER ACCORDING TO IMMANUEL KANT’S PHILOSOPHY
No full textThe present article aims to analyze the importance of the teacher in the educational formative process as presented by Immanuel Kant in his work Lectures on Pedagogy and in other excerpts that discourse on the same theme. The objective is to approximate the practical and the pragmatic domains by underscoring the role played by the teacher, exploring not only his didactic attributions, but mainly his moral vocation in the context of human end. Despite the prominence given by Kant and his interpreters to the student, due to the philosopher’s proclamation of a pedagogy that promotes his autonomy, we seek, without neglecting this privileged position, to reverse this due emphasis in order to examine Kantian educational reflections from the perspective of the teacher. Therefore, the objective of this study is threefold: a) what does it mean to be a teacher?; b) what can be demanded from the teacher?; and, finally, we also seek to investigate: c) how the Dessau Philanthropic Institute summarizes in its educational program Kant’s pedagogical-moral demands and expectations explored in the first two topics.Este artigo tem como objetivo a análise da importância do professor no processo formativo educacional apresentado por Immanuel Kant em sua obra Sobre a Pedagogia e em outros excertos que discorrem sobre a mesma temática. Tencionamos realizar a aproximação dos âmbitos prático e pragmático ao darmos destaque para o papel desempenhado pelo professor, explorando não apenas as suas atribuições didáticas, mas principalmente a sua vocação moral perante o fim humano. Inobstante o realce dado por Kant e seus intérpretes ao estudante, em virtude do filósofo apregoar uma pedagogia que promova a sua autonomia, buscamos, sem negligenciar esta posição privilegiada, reverter esta devida ênfase com o intuito de examinar as reflexões educacionais kantianas sob a perspectiva do professor. Visamos compreender, portanto: a) o que significa ser um professor?; b) o que pode ser exigido do professor?; e, ao fim, também buscamos investigar: c) de que modo o Instituto filantrópico de Dessau sumariza em seu programa educacional as exigências e as expectativas pedagógico-morais de Kant exploradas nos dois primeiros tópicos

No full textO presente artigo tem como objetivo a análise das mudanças do espaço sagrado que foram caraterizadas que pela apropriação, transformação e ressignificação de um local religioso na entrada da sede do município de Salgadinho-PB, esse espaço ao longo do tempo sofreu várias interferências humanas, motivadas pela mentalidade religiosa que foi modificado a visão que o povo local tem desse espaço e sua maneira de se relacionar com esse, culminando em rituais que iam desde a formação de romaria para visitação, pagamentos de promessas, depósitos de ex-votos até mesmo ao abandono, ocasionado por motivos que serão explicados no corpo de nosso texto. Entendemos aqui, que o percurso que se inicia com o Cruzeiro de São Sebastião até o Mirante de N. S. do Carmo, foi marcado por atos de fé que iremos conhecer mais adiante, esse trabalho faz um mergulho na mentalidade do povo de nossa comunidade para materializar suas formas de se relacionar com o sagrado
A PEDRA DE RETUMBA
No full textEste trabalho evidencia os registros bibliográficos e históricos de visitadores e estudiosos sobre a pedra lavrada, monumento com artes rupestres, localizado na Paraíba, que originou o nome do município de Pedra Lavrada (PB). A pesquisa investiga os primeiros relatos de visitadores como Brunet (1858) e Retumba (1886), e acompanha os desdobramentos de outros entusiastas e acadêmicos até as escavações de 2020, que redescobriu a Pedra de Retumba. Por meio de revisão bibliográfica, o estudo discute a memória, as interpretações e o valor patrimonial e histórico do sítio, em busca de evidenciar seu potencial arqueológico e a urgência de conversação e preservação diante do novo soterramento
Abordando a Modelagem Matemática no ensino de Média Aritmética no contexto de Clubes de Futebol
No full textO presente trabalho corresponde a uma pesquisa, resultante do desenvolvimento de uma atividade com vinte e quatro alunos pertencentes a 2ª e 3ª série do Ensino Médio, de uma escola pública estadual, em que se aplicou uma proposta dinâmica relacionada a Modelagem Matemática versando sobre a investigação sobre os melhores times de futebol da América do Sul, trabalhando, para isso, o conteúdo Média Aritmética. O desenvolvimento dessa atividade partiu de uma contestação prévia, pelo professor, de que havia baixo desempenho dos alunos tanto antes do início das aulas, quanto após as aulas conceituais, necessitando, então, de um reforço adotando uma metodologia ativa. Após a realização da proposta, verificou-se que houve um aumento substancial nos índices de acertos às questões, evidenciando que houve uma aprendizagem significativa

No full textO estudo procura investigar o papel das tecnologias digitais da informação e comunicação no processo de ensino e aprendizagem da Matemática, fundamentado na metodologia da resolução de problemas. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, valendo de uma revisão sistemática de literatura, tendo o Portal de Periódicos da Capes como lócus de busca. Os dados foram analisados tomando as seguintes categorias: aprendizagem colaborativa através da Resolução de Problemas e as Tecnologias Digitais, Resolução de problemas na formação inicial dos professores de Matemática, GeoGebra e aprendizagem através da resolução de problemas e contribuição de aplicativos na resolução de problemas. A investigação mostra que as tecnologias digitais da informação e comunicação apresentam um potencial para o ensino da Matemática na Educação Básica, especialmente no que se refere à resolução de problemas. Neste sentido, é necessário ocorrer a integração das tecnologias digitais da informação e comunicação nos currículos de matemática da educação básica e na formação docente
Antifungal Activity of Tea Tree Oil, Chlorhexidine, and Nystatin against Candida albicans: A Comparative Study
No full textObjective: To evaluate the antifungal effect of 25% Tea tree oil and compare it to 2% Chlorhexidine and Nystatin against Candida albicans at both the 4th day and 7th day of inoculation to explore potential alternative treatment options for fungal infections in endodontic therapy. Material and Methods: 82 single-canal human mandibular premolar teeth were cleaned, prepared, and inoculated with a C. albicans suspension. After incubating for 4 and 7 days, the teeth were randomly assigned to receive one of four treatments: Nystatin, Chlorhexidine (CHX), Tea tree oil (TTO), or Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO). After treatment, samples were rinsed and dried. Dentine shavings were collected and incubated to observe the growth of C. albicans. The antifungal activity was measured by the number of Candida colony-forming units. Two-way ANOVA followed by post-hoc Tukey\u27s test was applied to compare the CFU growth. Results: TTO exhibited comparable antifungal activity to CHX (p=0.976) and superior antifungal activity compared to Nystatin (p<0.001). Conclusion: 25% Tea tree oil shows antifungal efficacy against C. albicans, comparable to 2% Chlorhexidine, suggesting it could be a viable alternative for endodontic treatments. However, Nystatin demonstrated only limited antifungal effectiveness

No full textThis article aims to highlight the issue of religion in Paul Ricoeur\u27s Philosophy, drawing on his writings as a key to understanding the paradoxical nature of his philosophical work. Like Kant and Hegel, Ricoeur opens Philosophy to Religion from a fruitful perspective. Without denving his Faith conviction, he kessps it separate from his critical philosophical aprroach. At first, while reaffirming his agnostic method he emphasizes the difference between Philosophiy and Religion, which pressupposes both his criticismo and his conviction. The philosopher, with methodological rigor and epistemological demand, treats the religious theme a as non-philosophical source of Philosophy. This article intends to presente the place of Religion in Ricoeur’s thougth, as for him, Philosophy must be open to Religion in order to learn from it. Ultimately, it question the relevant function of Religion in specifically philosophical issues.Este artigo tem por objetivo destacar a questão da Religião na Filosofia de Paul Ricoeur, valendo-se de seus escritos como cifra da compreensão paradoxal do seu trabalho filosófico. Como Kant e Hegel, Ricoeur abre a Filosofia à Religião numa perspectiva fecunda. Sem negar a sua convicção de fé, a mantém distante da sua abordagem crítica filosófica. No primeiro momento, reafirmando o seu método agnóstico, acentua-se a diferença entre Filosofia e Religião, o que pressupõe sua crítica e sua convicção. O filósofo, com rigor metodológico e exigência epistemológica, trata a temática religiosa como uma fonte não filosófica da Filosofia. O presente artigo pretende apresentar o lugar da Religião no pensamento de Ricoeur, uma vez que, para ele, a Filosofia deve estar aberta à Religião para aprender com ela. Por fim, se pergunta pela função relevante da Religião em questões especificamente filosóficas
