Non-surgical treatment of periapical lesion using calcium hydroxide-A case report

    Get PDF
This article presents non-surgical resolution of an extensive periapical lesion because of trauma to maxillary right central incisor. Clinical examination revealed intraoral swelling in relation to maxillary right central incisor and radiographically, radiolucency was seen with both maxillary right central and lateral incisor about 7mm in diameter. Pus was drained through the canal orifice. After thorough biomechanical preparation, an intra-canal calcium hydroxide dressing was applied and periodically reviewed for 9 months. Significant bone formation was seen at the periapical region at periodic check up visits. Complete radiologic healing of the periapical lesion was observed one year after root canal filling. Thus the non surgical healing of the multiple periapical lesions provided favorable clinical and radiographic response.KEYWORDS: Periapical lesion, nonsurgical, endodontic therapy, Calcium Hydroxid

“Clinical Management of an Epigenetic Enamel Hypoplasia- A Case Report”

    Get PDF
Enamel hypoplasia is quantitative enamel defect, having reduced thickness of enamel. Dental enamel defects have been associated with a broad spectrum of etiologies including genetic and epigenetic factors such as systemic (bronchial asthma), local and environmental factors. Partial anodontia can be caused due to environmental and genetic factors which can cause failure of tooth development.  The purpose of the case report is to emphasize the possible correlation between bronchial asthma and enamel hypoplasia and the clinical management of the same

Comparative evaluation of border morphology produced by three different border molding materials

    No full text
Aims and objectives: This study aims to compare the border morphology produced by border moulding using tissue conditioner with that obtained using Low Fusing Compound, Putty Addition Silicone and Pattern Resin. Methods: 30 patients with good maxillary foundations and with previous denture history were selected for the study. The labial flange of the upper denture was reduced to an average 2 mm from the limiting sulcus and loaded with tissue conditioner and functionally molded. Borders were molded using low fusing impression compound, putty addition silicon and pattern resin. Casts were poured, sectioned and measured for area of sulcus using stereomicroscope. Results: Mean height and width values were subjected to ANOVA statistic. Mean border values obtained with all the three border molding materials (putty silicone: 22.774 sqmm, low fusing impression compound: 20.5007sqmm and pattern resin: 14.1266 sqmm.) were significantly different compared to that of the control (tissue conditioner: 11.5380 sqmm) (p=0.000). However the means show that the border area recorded using pattern resin is closest in dimension to that obtained using tissue conditioner. Conclusion: All the tested border molding materials produced borders statistically significantly different from the control. Within the limitations of the study, it may be recommended that pattern resin may be used as a border molding material next to tissue conditioner. Keywords: Border morphology, Complete dentures, Stereomicroscope

Pigmented Intramucosal Nevus of Gingiva: A Case Report

    No full text
Pigmented nevi are uncommon lesions in the oral cavity and were found in only 0.1% of patients in a large survey (King O H et al, 1967). Most reports are of isolated cases or of a small series of cases. Pigmented nevi are benign tumors of the skin and mucosa characterized by the presence of melanin-producing, neuroectodermal derived cells. The Intramucosal nevus is composed of a bulk of nevus cells in the lamina propria, which do not contact the basement membrane.                         This article presents a case report of a 41-year old female patient with confirmed diagnosis of Intramucosal nevus of gingiva. A systematic and careful diagnostic approach should be used when confronting pigmented lesions in the oral cavity. Surgical removal of suspected pigmented nevi is recommended because the oral mucosa is under continuous challenges and the junctional variant may undergo malignant transformation.                    Key Words: Nevocellular Nevus, Intramucosal Nevus, Mole

Odontomas are most commonly occurring tumors of the jaws. Large odontomas may be associated with local disturbances such as eruption delay of permanent teeth. However  cases of simultaneous pathologies are uncommon. Here we report a case of a complex odontoma associated with dentigerous cyst in relation to mandibular first molar. &nbsp

Comparative evaluation of effect of complete dentures on oral stereognosis in completely edentulous patients

    Get PDF
Aims and Objectives: this study was conducted to evaluate the effect of complete dentures on oral stereognosis in completely edentulous patients. Methods: 30 edentulous patients were selected according inclusion and exclusion criteria. 12 metal objects were made & placed in patient’s mouth with and without complete denture. The time required to identify each object was recorded and the correctness of identification of each object was scored using a Oral Stereognostic Score. Values obtained were tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis.Result: Results show that wearing complete denture increases oral stereognosis score when compared to without denture (p<0.000). Further the response time for identification of metal object was lesser with complete denture than without complete denture. Conclusion: Covering the palatal mucosa with a denture does not reduce oral stereognostic ability. The presence of a prosthetic restoration is determinant in improving oral stereognostic ability.KEYWORDS: Complete dentures, Oral Stereognostic Score, Neuroperception

A 3 year old male child patient was brought to Dept. of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry , Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Dental College & Hospital, Pune  with the Chief Complaint of Generalised Mobility of Teeth. Clinical examination revealed that the patient had Grade II mobility in all of the upper and lower anterior teeth and Grade II mobility in posterior teeth. All the teeth had chronic Generalized Periodontitis with deep pocket (6 mm). Radiographic examination revealed generalized vertical and horizontal bone loss. Patient showed a high level of alkaline phosphatase enzyme.                 Case also exhibited hyperkeratosis of Palms / soles / elbows / knuckles & knees. The case was diagnosed as " Papillon Lefevre Syndrome" and was treated by extraction of all teeth except the second primary molars.  Telescopic upper and lower dentures to improve appearance and function. The patient was found to be very well adapted to the prosthesis and uses them regularly. Keywords: Papillon Lefevre Syndrome, Telescopic Dentures, Alkaline  phosphatase

    Twopiece implant versus onepiece implant

Osseointegration being an accepted and well documented concept, the attentions is directed towards simplification of mechanical design of implant and yet have an uncomplicated logical surgical technique and achieve a biomechanical success. Slow and steady shift of paradigm from conventional two pieces, two stage implantology to unibody single stage implantology is implantology already on the horizon. The unibody design mimics natural tooth with seamless transition of radicular unit to coronal unit.  The design redefines the existing concepts of implantolog

    No full text
Ankyloglossia, or tongue-tie, is a congenital condition that results when the inferior lingual frenulum is too short and is attached to the tip of the tongue, limiting its normal movements. Ankyloglossia can lead to a range of problems, such as difficulties in breastfeeding in infants, speech impediments, being embarrassed by peers during childhood and adolescence, and poor oral hygiene. Case description: This article reports the surgical management of a patient having ankyloglossia associated with restricted movement of tongue. The treatment involved surgical removal of the lingual frenum, which healed uneventfully.  Conclusion: A marked improvement in the movement of the tongue was observed at follow up visits in  the case.&nbsp
