Florid Cemento-Osseous Dysplasia- Case report of a rare entity
Gigantiform cementoma or florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) has been described as a benign condition that characteristically affects the jaws of middle-aged negroid women. It usually manifests as multiple radiopaque cementum-like masses having multi-quadrant involvement. Only three Indian patients of florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (less than 2%) have been reported, according to the review of recent literature. This makes the occurrence of FCOD a relatively rare phenomenon. The present article reports a case of 30-year-old Asian man with FCOD of the jaws. 
Sealing Ability of Class V Resin Composite Restoration with Cooled Composite Inserts - An In Vitro Study
Abstract: Introduction: The success of resin composite restoration lies in its marginal integrity with the tooth structure. Polymerization shrinkage causes microleakage of resin composites at resin-tooth interface which can cause secondary caries, compromised esthetic finally leading to failure of such restorations. Reducing this shrinkage seems to be the key in producing a leakage free restoration. Methods and Materials: 30 freshly extracted mandibular premolars were taken. Standardized class V cavities were prepared on buccal side with the gingival walls were extended to CEJ and the enamel walls were beveled. All cavities were etched and bonding agent applied and divided into 3 experimental groups (n=10). Group I received custom made cool inserts which was stored at 4ºC. Group II were received custom made room temperature inserts. Group III cavities were restored in bulk increment technique. All restored teeth were subjected to methylene blue dye leakage method. Results showed that in both occlusal and gingival margin there was no significant difference between Group 2 and 3 but statistically significant difference between Group 1 and 2 and between Group 1 and 3. Microleakage occurred more at the gingival margins than occlusal margins and no leakage was present between the inserts and the cured composite resin material. Conclusion: Small prepolymerised composite inserts have improved resin – insert interface and Cooled inserts showed improved sealing ability of class V composite restoration with respect to bulk insertion technique and room temperature composite insert technique
Interoperator variability in shade matching for restoration with two shade guides- a study
A study was undertaken in the department of Prosthodontics to compare to compare the interoperator variability in shade matching by visual techniques using two shade guides. 2 prosthodontists selected shades of upper right central incisor of 30 patients in a dental chair under ceiling daylight-corrected fluorescent lights. Two shade guides were used- Vitapan Classical and the Vitapan 3D Master shade guides (Vita Zahnfabrik). The 3 closest shade tabs were selected and ranked in order of best, second best, and third best matches. Interoperator agreement was found by comparing the best shade and the common shade for each subject by the 2 clinicians. The result was calculated using the CIE Lab color difference, ΔE*, between the best shade and the common shade selected by the clinicians for each subject. Statistical analysis was done to find clinician differences of the means of the best shade and the common shade for both shade guides using a t test (α= .05) Interoperator agreement was 32% for the best shade and over 84% for the common shade ( significant difference at the .05 level). No significant differences were found between the 2 shade guides by means of the mean color differences between the best shade match and the common shade match .Vitapan 3D Master shade guide was better than the Vitapan Classical shade guide in reducing the interoperator color differences from 0.7 to 0.2
An evaluation of the effect of water sorption on dimensional stability of the acrylic resin denture bases
Aims & ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to investigate the effect of water sorption on the dimensional stability of acrylic resin denture bases, to quantify the interference to occlusion due to the vertical dimensional change caused by water sorption and to assess the time required for the water sorption related dimensional changes to stabilize. MethodsThe sample for this study consisted of tooth bearing specimens of heat cured acrylic resin .The present study was undertaken to determine the dimensional change in heat cure acrylic resin denture bases over a period of 28 days on immersion in water. Micrometer and a comparator were used to record the dimensional change.Measurement for the change in dimension in the vertical direction were recorded on zero, first, second, seventh, fourteenth, twenty first and twenty eighth day of water sorption and the mean dimensional change over this time period was calculated.ResultsFor statistical analysis the six days of measurement-day 1,2,7,14,21 and 28 were taken as six different treatments. Very little change occurred during the 21-28 day interval and was statistically not significant. The results indicate that the water sorption related dimensional change stabilizes and saturation or equilibrium is attained in 21 days or three weeks.Key words-Acrylic denture,water sorption,dimensional stability
Evaluation Of Effect Of Various Endodontic Irrigants And Intra Canal Medicaments On Push-Out Bond Strength To Root Canal Dentin - An In-vitro study
Endodontic therapy involves the use of various instrumentation and irrigation techniques along with intra canal medicaments to ensure thorough cleaning and shaping of the canal. With the development of new dentin bonding systems and resin cements, resin based adhesive materials are widely used in the restoration of endodontically treated teeth. However, the irrigants and medicaments used during endodontic therapy may influence the bond strength of resin materials to root canal dentin. The aim of the present study was to evaluate such bond strength effects caused by use of common irrigants and intra canal medicaments.MATERIALS AND METHOD: The irrigants used were 0.2% Chlorhexidine gluconate, 3% Sodium hypochlorite, 3% Hydrogen peroxide, Combination of 3% Sodium hypochlorite & 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, Isotonic saline (control). Similarly, the medicaments used were Calcium hydroxide and Formocresol. The resin cement used was C&B Superbond and the bond strength test employed was Push-out test. Seven groups with seven samples each were treated with the subject materials and then restored with C&B Superbond cement. The samples were then subjected to Push-out tests on a Instron universal testing machine. Push-out strength was calculated, results were tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis.RESULTS of the study indicated that calcium hydroxide and formocresol did not influence bond strength significantly, whereas sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide and their combination had a detrimental effect. Chlorhexidine had a positiveeffect and was associated with increased bond strength values.CONCLUSION: According to the results shown in this study, in teeth which are planned to be restored post endodontically with adhesive post and core systems, chlorhexidine may be an appropriate irrigant during root canal treatment resulting in increased bond strength to root canal dentin
Retentive Aids in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics - A Review.
Retention has always been a problem in prosthodontics. Prosthodontists have always been struggling with retention in a maxillofacial prosthesis . Increased retention improves comfort as well as the confidence in the patient while wearing a facial prosthesis at work and in social settings. Advances in techniques used for retention of maxillofacial prosthesis and the materials used have been remarkable in the past several years. The journey from using metal bands to using adhesives to placing implants for retaining a maxillofacial prosthesis has been fascinating and satisfying to many, but, the aim of achieving the full potential still remains incomplete.  
Idiopathic External Root Resorption – A Case Report
Generalized external root resorption is a rare condition. As the condition is non-symptomatic, a case is usually diagnosed during routine dental radiographic examination. Though many etiologies have been associated with external root resorption, a single causative factor is difficult to determine, more so in the case of generalized external root resorption. Hence, most of these cases are labeled as Idiopathic external root resorption. Being a rare entity, this case report is an addition to the existing literature
Non-Syndromic hypertaurodontism involving multiple teeth: A case report and brief review of literature
This report describes a rare case of hypertaurodontism involving multiple teeth in a thirty five year old male patient. There was no positive family history or any associated features of syndromes. The case was diagnosed on the basis of radiographic findings. A brief review regarding aetiology, clinical, radiographic features and therapeutic aspects of taurodontism is also been mentioned. 
Unilateral Hypoplasia of the Mandibular Condyle Or Dysplasia-A Unusual Case Report
As per the classification of the TMJ disorder,mandibular condylar malformation are of three types aplasia,hypoplasia ,hyperplasia and they have their respective etiology ,clinical and radiological features .This paper highlights a case of unilateral hypoplastic deformed condyle but the clinical and radiological features are different from that of typical condylar hypoplasia and not associated with any kind of syndromes
