Effects of glutaraldehyde, HEMA, and Gluma Desensitizer on in vitro dentin permeability
Objective: Aim of this in vitro study was to investigate dentin permeability after application of Gluma Desensitizer (Heraeus Kulzer, Hanau, Germany), and aqueous solutions of glutaraldehyde and HEMA, respectively.Method: The permeability of dentin slices, cut from crowns of human third molars, was determined using a split-chamber device. Activator fluid crossing through the dentin disc from the apical side produces a photochemical signal upon contact with the luminol-containing reagent at the opposite side of the specimen. This light signal is proportional to the liquid flow during pressurizing cycles with 2.5 kPa for 2 minutes and with 13 kPa for 1 minute, respectively. Ten specimens each were investigated after EDTA treatment for removal of cutting smear (Baseline), then after soaking in protein solution (Albumin) and finally after application of each of the desensitizer solutions, respectively. Statistical data treatment: non-parametric ANOVA and post-hoc testing (p<0.05).Results: Permeability of all specimens was not significantly different at Baseline and Albumin evaluation stages. Glutaraldehyde and HEMA solutions did not reduce permeability of dentin discs, whereas Gluma Desensitizer showed pronounced permeability reduction. Conclusion: Supposedly, permeability decrease results from a reaction between glutaraldehyde and albumin (protein precipitation) and secondly from induction of HEMA polymerization.  
Cephalometric Evaluation Of Dentoalveolar And Morphological Changes Associated With Overbite In Maxilla & Mandible In 13-18 Year Old Adolescents
AIM: The present study was carried out to cephalometrically evaluate the morphological and dentoalveolar height changes in maxilla and mandible associated with overbite in 13-18 year old adolescents. The main aim of this study was to seek possible identifiable associations of overbite with morphology of maxilla and mandible among different overbite groups. METHODS:For the present study a sample of 96 (44 males and 52 females) untreated adolescents with an age range of 13-18 years were selected from the records of the Department of Orthodontics, J.S.S Dental College & Hospital, Mysore. The subjects were divided into four groups (normal bite, deep bite, edge to edge bite and open bite) on the basis of overbite. Various cephalometric points, planes, angles, linear and area measurements were used in this study to evaluate the morphology of mandible and maxilla in different overbite groups. A significant difference was found in the morphology and dentoalveolar heights of maxilla and mandible among the overbite groups. RESULTS: The result of this study showed that subjects with open bite generally had increased maxillary anterior and posterior dentoalveolar heights and mandibular anterior dentoalveolar height and they also had a larger maxillary, mandibular and symphysis area and larger gonial angle, whereas subjects with deep bite had opposite characteristics. Subjects with open bite also showed a long symphysis among all overbite groups, while subjects with deep bite had a larger maxillary anterior depth. CONCLUSION: The evaluation of maxillary and mandibular dentoalveolar heights, area, gonial angle and shape of the symphysis may be useful in the treatment of overbite problems. Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) for the treatment of Implant Dehiscence Defect.
OBJECTIVES: The present case was designed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of guided bone regeneration of unintentionally occurred implant dehiscence defect. METHODS: The 24 yr old lady was referred to department of Periodontics. She had lost her tooth due to endodontic failure 1 yr back. Clinical examination was performed followed by Radiological and Cast analysis. Primary examinations include Clinical Attachment Level (CAL), Pocket Probing Depth (PPD) and Plaque Index (PI). Radiological Analysis consisting of Intra- Oral Peri apical X-rays, OPG, Dentascan of Maxilla. Initial phase I Therapy, subsequently 3.3x10mm threaded Implant (US-FDA Certified) was placed, resulting 5 to 6 thread were visible due to dehiscence then, Bio-oss with resorbable barrier membrane (BioMesh) were placed to cover the defect. 6 month later during second stage surgery, re-entry was performed.RESULTS:Clinically the defect was 100% restored by the GBR. The patient was satisfied with her treatment after more than 18 month.CONCLUSIONS: The use of Bio-oss and BioMesh is effective in guided bone regeneration procedure for restoration of unintentionally occurred facial dehiscence associated with placement of implant. Oral Cysticercosis - A Case Report
Oral cysticercosis is a rare disease caused by the ingestion of the parasite Cysticercus cellulosae (larval stage of Taenia solium), in which man acts as an intermediate host instead of definitive and represents a difficulty in clinical diagnosis. A case of oral cysticercosis in a 16-year-old male, who presented a painless swelling in the dorsal portion of the tongue is reported. Types of hyperodontic anomalies in permanent dentition: Report of 5 cases
Hyperodontia is a term used to express for the teeth more than the normal series in either dentition. Supernumerary teeth are developmental anomalies and are not uncommonly observed in permanent dentition of either jaw. Supernumerary teeth (multiple) have been reported with certain syndromes but multiple supernumeraries in non-syndromic individual have not been frequently reported. Several theories of this kind of developmental anomaly have been proposed but the precise etiology of non-syndromic supernumerary teeth is not clearly known. In patients with non-syndromic supernumerary teeth heredity factor has been proposed in several reports, therefore family history should be carefully explored. This article provides series of case reports of all common types of supernumerary teeth seen in the permanent dentition, along with literature review, anatomy, etiology, incidences and treatment options suggested by various authors have been discussed.  
Green Tea and Oral Health
ABSTRACT The Green tea is obtained from the tea plant Camellia sinensis (L.), Common names: Green tea extract, Chinese tea which belongs to the family Theaceae. Tea is the most consumed drink in the world after water. Green tea is a ‘non-fermented’ tea, and contains more Catechins, than black tea or oolong tea. Catechins are in vitro and in vivo strong anti-oxidants. In addition, its content of certain minerals and vitamins increases the antioxidant potential of this type of tea. It is a widely used medicinal plant by the trials throughout India, China and popular in various indigenous system of medicine like Ayurveda, Unani and Homoeopathy Green tea has been consumed throughout the ages in India, China, Japan, and Thailand. Recent human studies suggest that green tea contributes to overall oral health. Green tea has been used in dentistry and has a promising role in future. Biomarkers In Periodontal Diagnosis: “What The Future Holds...”
The ability to monitor health status, disease onset and progression, and treatment outcome through noninvasive means is a most desirable goal in health-care promotion and delivery. There are certain ground rules for this goal to be realized: specific biomarkers associated with a health or disease state, a non-invasive approach to detect and monitor the biomarkers, and the technologies to discriminate between and among the biomarkers. We in the present literature have tried to assess a pathway to achieve these goals using oral fluids as the diagnostic medium to analyse the health and/or disease status of individuals. As the "mirror of body", oral fluid is a perfect medium to explore regarding health and disease regulation
Reimplantation of Avulsed Teeth after Dry Storage for One Week
Management of tooth avulsion in the permanent dentition often presents a challenge. Avulsion is serious injury cause damage to dental and supportive tissues, ranges from 1-16 % among dental injuries and it mostly occurs in maxillary incisors. Definitive treatment planning and consultation with specialists is seldom possible at the time of emergency treatment. Replantation of the avulsed tooth can restore esthetic appearance and occlusal function shortly after the injury. This article describes the management of a female patient with an avulsed maxillary permanent incisor that had been air-dried for about 7 days. 
Granular Cell Tumor of Tongue
Granular cell tumor is an uncommon benign neoplasm of unknown histogenesis but with a typical histological appearance composed of cells with characteristic granular cytoplasm. These tumors occur most often in adults as an asymptomatic solitary papule or nodule. A case of solitary granular cell tumor of the tongue in a 17 year old female patient is presented.Key words: Granular cell tumor, tongue, nodule
Non-Syndromic Supernumerary Premolars with Striking Symmetry –A case report
Aim and objective - Non-syndromic multiple supernumerary teeth are most commonly seen in mandibular premolar region. Dental literature rarely reports symmetrical supernumerary teeth in all four quadrants. This case reports the unique distribution of supernumerary premolars symmetrically in all the four quadrants .Early diagnosis helps in treatment planning.Case description – This case describes a 17 year old female patient who presented with the complaint of food impaction in the left mandibular premolar region. Intra oral examination revealed the presence of a supplemental premolar tooth in the same region. A panoramic radiograph revealed four supernumerary premolars, each positioned symmetrically in second premolar regions.Conclusion - Supernumerary premolar teeth are usually detected coincidentally on radiographs. This case report stresses the early detection, radiographic examination and frequent evaluation to detect any complications that may be associated with supernumerary premolars
