An Analysis of English Course Background on Students’ Speaking Ability at Ma’had Al Jami’ah
Speaking ability is an important component in English language learning that enables students to communicate effectively. This study examines the influence of students\u27 English course background on their speaking ability at Ma\u27had Al Jami\u27ah, UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Using a qualitative design, data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation from ten English Education students who had previous course experience. The data were analyzed through thematic analysis to identify patterns and categories related to course duration, frequency, and teaching methods. The results show that differences in course duration, frequency, and teaching methods affect vocabulary mastery, fluency, and confidence. Intensive camp-based programs that provide daily practice and exposure to English result in greater improvements in speaking skills, while short-term or grammar-focused courses result in limited progress. In addition, the Ma\u27had environment, which integrates structured language programs and daily use of English, plays a crucial role in strengthening and accelerating students\u27 oral skills. This study concludes that English courses provide a foundation for speaking proficiency, but consistent practice and a supportive environment are the main factors that strengthen students\u27 communicative competence
Exploring English Education Students’ Self-Efficacy in Utilizing AI Tools for Language Learning
This study explores English Education students’ self-efficacy in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for language learning within the Indonesian higher education context. A sequential explanatory mixed-method design was employed. In the first phase, a quantitative descriptive survey was administered to 100 English Education students using an adapted version of the Teacher Artificial Intelligence Competence Self-efficacy (TAICS) scale. The instrument consisted of twenty items covering six constructs: AI Knowledge, AI Pedagogy, AI Assessment, AI Ethics, Human-Centred Education, and Professional Engagement. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed that students’ overall self-efficacy was at a moderate level (M = 3.53), with the highest confidence observed in AI Knowledge and AI Pedagogy, while AI Ethics and Professional Engagement scored lowest. In the second phase, qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with a purposive sub-sample of fifteen students and analyzed thematically. Five themes emerged: mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, social persuasion, ethical awareness, and affective states. These themes reflected the sources of self-efficacy proposed by Bandura and explained variations in students’ confidence. The findings indicate that students are generally prepared to integrate AI tools for learning and future teaching, yet gaps remain in ethical confidence and professional engagement. The study suggests that teacher education programs should provide structured training, reflective practices, and ethical guidance to strengthen responsible AI use
Analisis Penerapan Prinsip TQM (Total Quality Management) dalam Manajemen Pembiayaan Pendidikan oleh Komite Sekolah di SMPN 60 Bengkulu Utara
This study aims to analyze the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles in education financing management by the School Committee at SMPN 60 Bengkulu Utara. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with field research design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results indicate that the School Committee has implemented TQM principles through the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle. The planning stage is carried out participatively based on needs analysis (customer focus), budget execution prioritizes learning quality with transparency principles, and evaluation is conducted periodically to ensure continuous improvement. The main supporting factors are effective communication between the school and the committee as well as clear regulations, while the inhibiting factors include the diverse economic conditions of parents and limited financial management competence of committee members. This study concludes that the integration of TQM in education financing can increase accountability and public trust, although it requires sustainable human resource capacity building
Efektivitas Gamification Aplikasi Duolingo dalam Meningkatkan Penguasaan Simple Past dan Past Perfect Tense (Studi Komparatif)
Mastering English grammar, specifically the distinction between Simple Past and Past Perfect Tense, often poses a significant challenge for Indonesian students due to linguistic interference from their native language, which lacks a tense system. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using the gamified application Duolingo compared to conventional learning methods in enhancing students\u27 ability to discriminate between these two tenses. Employing a quasi-experimental design (Nonequivalent Control Group Design), the study involved 46 first-semester English Literature students divided into a control group (n=24) and an experimental group (n=22). Data were collected through pre-test and post-test instruments and analyzed using Normalized Gain (N-Gain) scores and independent sample t-tests. The results indicated that the experimental group using Duolingo achieved a higher mean post-test score (89.09) than the control group (80.42). N-Gain analysis revealed that Duolingo\u27s effectiveness fell into the "High" category (0.84), outperforming the conventional method (0.73). Hypothesis testing confirmed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05), demonstrating that the integration of gamification through Duolingo has a greater positive impact on the automatization of grammatical rules. The study concludes that the immediate feedback and game mechanics within Duolingo are effective in helping students understand temporal sequencing in past narratives more interactively

THE IDENTITY CRISIS OF LANGUAGE AMONG URBAN TEENAGERS: A SOCIOLINGUISTIC STUDY ON THE SHIFT OF MOTHER TONGUE
Please The phenomenon of mother tongue shift among urban youth has emerged as an increasingly prominent issue amid the tides of globalization and digitalization. A language that should serve as a symbol of cultural identity is now experiencing a decline in both usage and meaning in the daily lives of the younger generation, particularly in urban areas. This article aims to examine in depth the factors contributing to the shift of the mother tongue and its implications for the linguistic identity of urban Indonesian youth. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach and library research methods, this study synthesizes findings from various scholarly journals and academic books related to sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and language behavior among youth. The results indicate that this shift is driven by the dominance of slang, the influence of social media, formal education systems that inadequately support the preservation of the mother tongue, and the weakening role of families in language transmission. As a result, youth are experiencing a linguistic identity crisis, reflected in a diminished sense of pride in their mother tongue and reduced communicative ability with older generations. This article highlights the need for synergy between educational institutions, families, and government policies to address this phenomenon and restore the mother tongue as a vital component of national identity

Strengthening Ecological Fiqh Values in Building SDGs Madrasah Models Through Environmental Outdoor Education
This study aims to strengthen the values of ecological fiqh in building a madrasa model that supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ecological fiqh, which is based on Islamic principles such as balance (mizan), non-destruction (la tufsidu fil ard), and sustainability (istidamah), offers a relevant conceptual framework to address global challenges related to the environment. Madrasas, as educational institutions based on Islamic values, have the potential to become centers of educational transformation in instilling ecological awareness and supporting the goals of the SDGs, especially quality education (SDG 4), environmental action (SDG 13) and life on land (SDG 15). This study uses a conceptual method with a theoretical analysis approach. Data and information were obtained through a literature review of various literatures, including primary sources in ecological fiqh and SDGs documents. The analysis was conducted to formulate the principles of ecological fiqh that can be integrated into the madrasa education model. The results of the study indicate that strategies for strengthening ecological values include integration into the curriculum, developing an environmentally friendly culture in madrasas, and involving the educational community and the wider community. This study provides a conceptual contribution in formulating an SDGs-based madrasah model based on ecological fiqh. Recommendations are provided for policy makers, madrasah managers, and related parties in building an educational ecosystem that supports global sustainability
