Get PDFThis work aims to point out that Cervantes’ eigth farces (entremeses), published in 1615, form a «system», according to the meaning that modern linguistics and de Saussure in particular give to this word. Starting from a thematic scheme published by Rafael Balbín Lucas in 1948, containing already «in nuce» all the elements of the system, we intend to stress the cohesion, both thematic and structural, of the Cervantes compilation.We particularly insist on the correspondences between the eight pieces that work at different levels: thematic, linguistic and narrative. Thematic and structural unity prove that the order of the eight plays was not accidental and obeys to the system’s law; that is to say, the smallest change in one of th elements influences the whole of the set. Therefore the system is a collection of correspondences for the reader to discover. They also add additional meaning to each play taken individually, so it works like the mechanism of connotation respect to denotation, according to Hjelmslev’s classic study.En este trabajo, el objetivo es el de mostrar que los ocho entremeses que Cervantes publicó en 1615 forman un «sistema», en el sentido que la lingüística moderna, en particular con de Saussure, le dio a esta palabra. A partir de un esquema temático que Rafael Balbín Lucas había publicado en 1948, y que contenía ya «in nuce» todos los elementos del sistema, nos proponemos insistir en la cohesión no sólo temática sino también estructural de la recopilación cervantina. Insistimos en particular sobre las correspondencias que se establecen entre los ocho entremeses, y esto a todos los niveles: temáticos, lingü.sticos y narrativos. La unidad temática y estructural demuestra que el orden de las ocho piezas no fue casual, sino que responde a la ley del sistema, según la cual el más mínimo cambio de un elemento influye en todo el conjunto. El sistema es pues un conjunto de correspondencias, que el lector es invitado a descubrir y que tiene como consecuencia la de añadir un sentido adicional al de cada entremés tomado singularmente, o sea que funciona como el mecanismo de la connotación respecto a la denotación, según el clásico estudio de Hjelmslev

Get PDFDon Quixote’s adventures were a recurrent subject among the artistic production made by the Spanish artists in exile after the Civil War. This article analyses in depth the case of the painter and draftsman Augusto Fernández Sastre (1887-1975). Firstly, it situates his work in the context of the exile production around Don Quixote. Secondly, it studies his life and work in detail during the exile. Therefore, the paper recovers the figure of the forgotten artist Augusto Fernández in order to explore the use of this subject in the fine arts during the Spanish exile.Las andanzas de don Quijote fueron un tema recurrente en la producción artística de los exiliados españoles a causa de la Guerra Civil. En este artículo se analiza con detalle el caso del pintor y dibujante Augusto Fernández Sastre (1887-1975). Para ello, se sitúa su producción en el contexto de la creación exiliada en torno a don Quijote y, seguidamente, se estudia pormenorizadamente su trabajo en el exilio. De esta manera, se recupera del olvido a Augusto Fernández, un artista paradigmático para entender el empleo de esta temática en las artes plásticas exiliadas

Get PDFIn his exemplary novel El amante liberal, Miguel de Cervantes uses the oriental setting to question the conventional representations of matrimony, gender, masculinity and feminity, individualism and freedom. Unlike other contemporary texts, his novel does not establish an opposition between the Muslim and the Christian world, but instead subtly points to the parallels between the two. In the following, our interpretation will lead to a new understanding of the novel’s title as well as of its exemplarity. It will be demonstrated that the official (Christian) discourse of love and matrimony takes on a new meaning when paralleled to its equivalent in the Muslim world.En la novela ejemplar El amante liberal, Miguel de Cervantes utiliza el setting oriental para cuestionar las representaciones convencionales de matrimonio, género, masculinidad y feminidad, individuo y libertad. Al contrario de otros textos contemporáneos, en El amante liberal Cervantes no establece ninguna oposición entre el mundo islámico y el cristiano, sino que más bien sugiere sutilmente su paralelismo. A continuación se profundizará en esta lectura y se extraerán sus consecuencias tanto para la interpretación del título de la novela como para su contenido ejemplarizante. Se mostrará que el discurso oficial contemporáneo sobre amor y matrimonio es analizado en contraposición a su equivalente en el mundo islámico, adquiriendo un nuevo significado

The novel, published in 1954 at a diocesan magazine of Pamplona and then in book form in 1993, is another link in the long and fruitful chain of recreations of Cervantes’ immortal character and his adventures, a proof of its validity as an universal myth.Este artículo analiza una recreación narrativa del Quijote de mediados del siglo XX, Don Quijote en las Améscoas, de Martín Larráyoz Zarranz, quien traslada a don Quijote y Sancho Panza a tierras navarras. La novela, publicada en 1954 en una revista diocesana pamplonesa y luego en forma de libro en 1993, constituye un eslabón más en la larga y fecunda cadena de recreaciones del inmortal personaje cervantino y sus aventuras, una prueba más de su enorme vigencia como mito universal
