From Prejudice to Preference: the Case of Traditional Medicine in Nsukka, Nigeria, 1960-2014
This study attempts to explain why Phyto-medicine referred to as Ogwu Igbo has remained relevant in the health care delivery system of Nsukka Igbo despite its derision following the advent of Western medicine. Nsukka people have had a rich tradition of herbal medicine for their health challenges but much has not been researched, a gap this intends to fill. Primary and secondary data such as journals, books, interviews and Ad-Hoc observations and accounts were analysed qualitatively using historical and self-report technique which revealed the people were depending on traditional medicine increasingly due to several factors. It submits that economic hardships and the efficacy of traditional medicine have promoted its acceptance
Measuring the Six-Dimensional Aspect of Wellness among Selected Employees in the Private Company at Metro Manila
The purpose of the study was to determine the perceived wellness among the selected Employees in Private Company at Metro Manila in the six-dimensional aspects: psychological, emotional, social, physical, spiritual, and intellectual. Quantitative Research Method was used in this study. Assessment of the Respondents on six-dimensional wellness were as follows: Psychological Aspect was interpreted “Agree” with a weighted mean of 4.41; Emotional Aspect was rated “Somewhat Agree” having a weighted mean of 4.12; in Social Aspect, majority of the respondents chosen “Agree” as verbal interpretation with weighted mean of 4.34; Physical Aspect was interpreted “Somewhat Agree” by majority of the respondents with weighted mean of 3.96; Spiritual Aspect had a verbal interpretation of “Agree” with a grand weighted mean of 4.38; lastly, Intellectual Aspect was verbally interpreted “Somewhat Agree” with a grand weighted mean of 4.18. The test for significant difference on the assessment of respondents towards the Six Dimensional Aspects of Wellness had a moderate to very strong difference to position, while it had a weak to very strong difference between the six-dimensional aspect. This implies that the respondents are self-assured with their Psychological, Social and Spiritual Aspects while doubting their Emotional, Physical and Intellectual aspects. Therefore, the researchers conclude that the respondents’ wellness in terms of these six-dimensional wellness aspects is not balanced. It is recommended that another aspect of the respondent’s profile should be tested with the six dimensional wellness aspect in order to determine if the same result will come out. Future researchers may conduct a follow-up study in order to validate the result of this research or they may conduct the same research with a new set of respondents
Assessment on Proficiency of Using Information and Communication Technology among Students of University of Lahore (Sargodha Campus), Pakistan
The main purpose of the study was to assess the proficiency of using information and communication technology among students of University of Lahore (Sargodha Campus). The researcher conveniently selected the sample of 200 M.Phil. Students and sample included male and female students. A questionnaire was constructed that comprised of three parts. It was concluded that students had high proficiency in using spreadsheets, presentation software, internet, E-mail, E-learning whereas they had not enough knowledge of using blogs and were also facing obstacles in the use of ICTs in their work environment
3C’S of Management among Local Universities and Colleges in the National Capital Region toward Building Employees Empowerment and Job Satisfaction
The major purpose of this study is to determine the relationship among the dimensions of 3C’S (co-ownership, co-operation and co-sharing), transformational leadership style of school administrators, school effectiveness, empowerment practices, and job satisfaction. The descriptive correlational design was used in this study using adapted questionnaires pertaining to 3C’S, transformational leadership style of school administrators, school effectiveness, empowerment practice, and job satisfaction of the Local Universities and Colleges in the National Capital Regional . The most prominent aspect of 3C’S is co-operation exhibiting that everyone in the institution is taking the responsibility to the success of the schools’ endeavor. The school effectiveness as evaluated by the faculty have a predominant envisioning the development planning as to developing an educated work force. Transformational leadership style of school administrators as perceived by the faculty have pronounced the school vision, and accomplishing work together as a team. Moreover, empowerment practices in respondent’s respective institution, have greater emphasis in the area of self-worth. Work-itself is the most prevailing aspect of job satisfaction. Lastly, findings showed that there is a significant moderate to strong positive relationship among dimensions of 3C’S, school effectiveness, transformational leadership style of school administrators, empowerment practices, and job satisfaction. Since 3C’S is found to have a moderate positive relationship as correlated with all other dimensions, it is recommended that administrator should maintain and enhance their currrent programs and activities to strengthen the aspects of school effectiveness, employees empowerment and job satisfaction
The Practice of Nation Character Building in Border Communities: A Case Study in Sebatik Island, North Kalimantan Province, Indonesia
The Border Region of the State is the front porch that describes the existence of a country in the presence of another country. High dependence on neighboring countries can affect the loyalty of its citizens so that the Border Region is often associated with the nationalism of its weak citizens. This study aims to examine the practice of nationalism of the Indonesian-Malaysian border community on sebatik island, North Kalimantan province which is directly adjacent to Sabah, Malaysia. Easy accessibility leads to high intensity of social interaction between people in two different countries of nationality. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method using Nationalism theory and Border theory. The results showed that Nation Character Building in sebatik island border communities is realized through the practice of daily life oriented to the interests of the nation and the State in various aspects, namely economic, Political, Educational, and Social. In economic aspects, the practice of nationalism is realized through the role of some local entrepreneurs in Sebatik in presenting Indonesian Shops to compensate for the Hegemony of Foreign Products and the use of Foreign Currencies (Malaysia), Political Aspects are realized by the political participation of sebatik people in the general election as a form of loyalty to the State, The education aspect is realized by the role of Education activists in presenting Tapal Batas School as a special Nationalism Education school for Indonesian Labor children in Malaysia located in Sebatik, Social Aspects are realized by the Existence of BERJOKO Youth in building harmonious social relations between communities with different ethnicities and religions in Sebatik as a barometer of national strength. The practice of Sebatik Community Nationalism can strengthen the Sovereignty of the State at the Border
Evaluating the Effect of e-Government Quality of Services on Citizens’ Satisfaction and in Saudi Arabia within 2030 Vision: A Conceptual Perspective
Much research has been conducted to examine models related for understanding social satisfaction and the acceptance of e-government quality of services, but residents’ services is a significant research topic. This may be related to the point that not many investigations have been carried to realize inclusively the connection between the adoption and acceptance-of e-services and citizens’ satisfaction. This resulted in a wide gap between the adoption of e-government and necessity for the awareness concerning how citizens' happiness affects the use e-services. In relation, this experimental study aims at evaluating the effect of e-Government quality of services on citizens’ satisfaction and in Saudi Arabia from a conceptual perspective. The sample of the study included 500 participants who were mainly administrators and government employees. The researcher used a questionnaire survey to elicit data from participants. This study is based on the Expectation-Confirmation Theory (ECT) by Oliver (1980) extended by Bhattacherjee (2001). Also, the researcher adopted SPSS.v25 to conduct factor analysis, item-total correlation test, Cronbach’s alpha used to achieve the validity and reliability of the research instruments. The findings of the study showed that 58% said they used e-Government services to a “large” extent, 27% stated that they “somewhat” used e-Government services, whilst 15% of them said that they “little” used e-Government services Conceptually, the results may be taken at a basis for further investigations on e-Government quality of services’ evaluation to develop citizens’ satisfaction in Saudi Arabia, particularly within 2030 Vision. This study recommends future research be conducted
Administrative Roles of Principals on Teachers Job Performance in Private Secondary Schools in Nigeria
This study examined administrative roles of principals on teacher’s job performance in private secondary schools in Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The population was 3, 027. The study sample 1,816 teachers’ drew from Owerri and Orlu Education Zones using simple random sampling techniques. The study adopted a structured questionnaire as instrument for data collection. The instrument was faced validated by three experts from the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Mean and standard deviation were adopted, while t-test was used to test the hypothesis. The findings of the study revealed principal’s administrative roles in the area of staff personnel administration to enhance teachers’ job performance. It was concluded that government should organize trainings to improve principals’ administrative roles and teachers’ job performance. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that effort should be made by the principals on their responsibilities of ensuring the success of this listed school administration. The principal also desperately need the cooperation of their teaching staff by encourage one another on their various task so as to facilities various task and also to facilitate learning and curriculum development collectively
Learning Science: Factors and its Relation to Academic Performance
Over the years, educators are exerting much effort in achieving the quality education that every student deserve. As important as it is for all courses, Science is a subject that needs attention to be delivered effectively. This study sought to assess the correlation of the different factors affecting the academic performance of Science High School Students in the Philippines. The researchers used the quantitative-descriptive approach to highlight the gathering of raw data focusing on the usage of laboratory equipment, instructional materials, and the Science teacher’s competence in the delivery of instruction. Results of the study show that there is no significant relationship between the usage of laboratory equipment, use of instructional materials, and the teachers’ competence in teaching science to the academic performance of selected Filipino High School Students. Further, it is proposed that to upgrade the laboratory facilities in terms of quality and numbers. Continued use of Instructional materials is also encouraged to supplement learning. Likewise, it is suggested that the educational institution must develop programs that will continually enhance the training and development of its educators to further elevate their competence in Science and in other areas of the discipline
Reading Brain in the Digital Age: An Experience of Philippine High School
The study aims to ascertain the significant relationship of digital reading profile and reading comprehension, and digital reading behavior and reading comprehension of Grade 7 students of Elpidio Quirino High School. The results will be obtained through the three phases of the study: digital reading profile and digital reading behavior survey, reading comprehension tests, and focus group discussion. The findings of the study show that the participants read more academic resources online or offline as opposed to the results from the qualitative data in which it shows that they preferred Wattpad, also respondents tend to use cellphone in reading digital materials. Based on the comparison made, the result shows no significant relationship. From the findings, due to its portability, cellphone is the commonly used device and Wattpad is the most commonly read digital reading material. It can be concluded that digital reading has no effect on the reading brain of the students. Based on the conclusions, it is suggested that through the inevitable emergence of technology, proper utilization and the collaboration of parents and teacher is vital to promote genuine love for reading
Impact of Economic and Political Freedom on Economic Growth in Asian Economies
The present study investigates the impact of economic and political freedom on economic growth in Asian economies. Thirty Four Asian countries have been included in empirical analysis over the period of 1995-2018, on annual basis. Two different econometric techniques, fixed effect model and GMM, have been applied to see empirical analysis. Economic freedom has positive and significant influence on economic growth. Political rights and civil liberties have optimistic and considerable influence on economic growth. The impact of human capital is positive and significant. The roles of physical capital and FDI are positive and considerable. The results of GMM are almost identical with the outcomes of fixed effect model. The impression of lagged dependent variable is optimistic and significant. At this juncture, current economic growth is based on the previous year’s economic progress
