The Art of Questioning Used in CED Departmental Examination: An Analysis
Assessment plays a vital role in the development and improvement of quality education. In addition, assessment refers to anything that diagnoses the student’s learning and monitors their level of understanding. It is also considered to be the key to evaluating the effectiveness of teaching strategies (Hans, 2015). Traditionally, the most common way to measure achievement and proficiency in language learning has been the paper and pen test. However, various forms of assessment and the design of classroom tests have also undergone some changes in line with the latest development in foreign language teaching specifically the communicative language teaching method. At Rizal Technological University, the College of Education devised a departmental examination program. This program is initiated to determine the capacity of the learners to answer test-item questions patterned after the licensure examination for teachers which aims to eventually prepare them in taking the said examination. Utilizing the quantitative descriptive method, the researchers tried to analyze the levels of questions used in the Departmental Examination. Specifically, this paper sought to identify the types of questions given in the CED departmental examination, determine the level of questions given in the CED departmental examination in terms of the Revised Blooms Taxonomy and Webb’s Depth Knowledge (DOK) model and evaluate the overall distribution of cognitive rigor present in the CED departmental examination
Students’ Learning through Online Platform and Academic Performance in Mathematics
The research was conducted to determine the students' learning through an online platform and academic performance in mathematics. The respondents included 192 students sampled using the proportional stratification technique. A three-part questionnaire was administered to the students. The instrument underwent validation and reliability testing using Cronbach's alpha. The test showed that the instrument was highly reliable for the selected population. The majority of responses were 15 to 19 years old, female, and Grade 12. Additionally, most of the students utilized Google Meet with at least two different learning platforms to learn mathematics. Moreover, the students used an online learning platform very often. The study found out that regardless of learners’ profiles, they had similar perceptions toward online learning platforms. However, some specific indicators differed. On average, the students had a very satisfactory performance. Furthermore, the learners' perceptions of online learning platforms were not significantly correlated with their academic performance. However, some specific indicators were significantly correlated, but it had an indirect connection, particularly on their confidence while using online learning content and in using online learning services that could simplify the learning process
Phonological Awareness among Japanese Senior High School Students of a Japanese High School: Basis for a Proposed Reading Intervention Program
The purpose of this study is to assess the phonological awareness of Japanese senior high school students as a basis for developing a reading intervention program. This study collects data through an interview to determine the participants’ demographic profile as well as to conduct the phonological awareness test adopted from Hastings and Prince Edwards District School Board which consists of ten parts to assess the phonological awareness skills of the students. The participants in this study are ten (10) Japanese senior high school students from Japanese High School. The researchers also had an adult translator for participants who did not fully understand English, and the participants were able to understand the test through the translator. All of the participants demonstrated different phonological awareness skills as they responded to the activities. The researchers found that Japanese students struggled with phonological awareness skills such as initial, medial, and final sound identification, sound segmentation, and syllable awareness. Apart from the phonological awareness skills mentioned, the participants also had difficulty pronouncing some English words and producing rhymes. The researchers discovered that orthographic influence is the main factor affecting their ability to recognize, produce and manipulate sounds. Based on the findings, the researchers proposed a reading intervention program. This program addressed the problem identified in the findings
Level of Condition and Extent of Adequacy of Resources in Secondary Schools in Taguig City and Their Effects on the National Achievement Test Performance
The results of the National Achievement Test (NAT) are used to evaluate and track how schools carry out their tasks and responsibilities. Other elements that may affect schools'/students' academic performance were the study's objectives. The state and adequacy of instructional and non-instructional materials and facilities, as well as the placement of schools that are prone to floods, were investigated. Teachers and students were given the opportunity to assess the state of their schools' physical resources and compare the information gathered to see whether there were any significant differences in their assessments. The majority of the data in this study was limited to the TAPAT division's selected flooded and non-flooded public secondary schools, and it used the independent-dependent-variable framework to determine how one variable influences the other. The findings of this study serve as a guide for concerned individuals in developing a policy framework to address this rising problem in the country, as well as reaffirming and supporting the demands of the perennially and non-perennially flooded public secondary schools. The results are difficult for the teachers since they may not be able to use their creativity and passion to help the pupils reach their goals. These will be demonstrated by their sincere implementation of a variety of alternative delivery schemes, instructional programs, curricula and materials, strategies and approaches, including policy changes and shifts, goal and objective formulation, and organized structuring in order to find quality education
Digital Citizenship among Saudi Community Colleges’ Undergraduates: Reality and Requirements for Enablement
This mixed mode study aims at examining digital citizenship among Saudi university undergraduates at the community college at the University of Tabuk. The objective of the study is manifested in three main axes; first, measuring the Saudi university undergraduates' perceptions of four categories of digital citizenship: Ethics, Media and Information Literacy, Engagement, and Critical Resistance. Second, investigate points of similarities and differences between male and female participants concerning the aforementioned categories. Lastly, the study explores the potential avenues for digital citizenship enablement within the selected context. 560 (280 females & 280 males) undergraduates participated in the study. Their age varied from 21 to 24 years old. The researchers designed a scale based on Ribble’s (2015) and Siemens’ (2005) theory of connectivism theoretical framework of digital citizenship. Two research instruments were used to collect data from participants in this study including an online questionnaire survey and an interview for 10 undergraduates (5 males & 5 females). Conducting exploratory factor analysis showed that the questionnaire had discriminant and convergent validity. 72.50% total variance was discussed by the nine applied digital citizenship factors. The findings of the study showed no statistical differences between undergraduates’ digital citizenship uses related to gender, educational level, and age. In addition, the results indicated there was a statistical difference between undergraduates’ digital citizenship uses credited to their regular practices with electronic devices
