Changes in Behavior, Professionalism, and Views on Life and Death among Physical Therapists and Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Japan
Although the mental health disorders of healthcare workers during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have been examined, little is known about the psychological impact of the pandemic on physical therapists. In this study, an online questionnaire survey was conducted on physical therapists and students aspiring to become physical therapists, to investigate changes in behavior/values and related factors. Increased anxiety about COVID- 19, awareness of voluntary restraint, and reduced motivation were observed in comparison with usual levels in both physical therapists and students. The desire to resign and concerns about patients increased significantly, and the desire to resign tended to increase with increases in years of clinical experience. The subjects’ views of the profession did not change, but decreased motivation was related to damage to the professionalism. Views on life and death changed significantly in both groups, and change was greater in students than in physical therapists. Anxiety and/or awareness of voluntary restraint and/or experience caring for patients were associated with changes in views on life and death. These results indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic affected the behaviors and values of physical therapists and students through anxiety and reduced motivation.departmental bulletin pape
Factor analytical study of the conceptions of and anxiety associated with hemodialysis among clinical engineering students
臨床工学技士養成大学の学生が「透析医療」をどのようにイメージしているかを知ることは、教育 内容の確立や学生の進路選択、透析医療における臨床工学技士の人材確保などのために重要な課題であ る。そこで、本研究では、透析医療のイメージはどのような要因が影響しているのかを明らかにするた め SD(semantic differential technique)法の結果をもとに探索的因子分析を行なった。
対象は、臨床工学技士養成大学に通う大学生 152 名とした。調査データに因子分析を行なった結果、 透析医療に対する「本質」、「職場環境」、「興味・関心」、「人間関係」の 4 因子が抽出された。卒業生(就 職前)の学生は、下位学年の学生と比較して「価値がある」、「重要である」、「慎重である」、「科学的で ある」、「深い」、「研究的である」といった「透析医療の本質」に対するポジティブなイメージを持って いることが分かった。一方で、「人間関係」については、「緊張した」、「安らぎがない」、「不安」、「怖い」、
「頑固な」といったネガティブな感情があることが分かった。
本研究の結果から、学年が上がるにつれ、透析患者への精神心理的問題への関心が深まった結果、透
析患者との関係形成に不安を感じるようになったのではないかと推測された。透析患者の精神心理的問 題を正しく理解するためにも、在学中に透析患者の心にどう寄り添えばいいかを知る機会としてサイコ ネフロロジーを学ぶことは意義が高いと考えられる。Candidates for enrollment in a clinical engineering (CE) program exert diverse points of view for hemodialysis therapy. A better understanding of such diversity may lead CE program providers to establish a more useful educational content in supplying CE career path design, potentially resulting in a more effective recruitment of hemodialysis therapy-oriented clinical engineers. In this study, we conducted an exploratory factor analysis based on semantic differential (SD) ratings to clarify what factors influence the understanding of hemodialysis. The following four factors were extracted from the survey data: essence of hemodialysis; work environment; interest and concern; and human relationships. It was found that, compared to lower grade students, graduating (pre-employment) students had a more positive view of the essence of dialysis medicine; they considered it “valuable,” “important,” “cautious,” “scientific,” “deep,” and “research-oriented.” However, negative feelings about human relationships associated with hemodialysis were also observed, with students using the terms “tense,” “not at ease,” “anxious,” “scared,” and “stubborn” to describe this factor. Based on the results of this study, it was inferred that as students progressed to higher grades, they became more concerned about the psychological challenges of hemodialysis patients. As a result, they became more anxious about forming relationships with hemodialysis patients. Therefore, during their schooling, it is highly significant for students enrolled in a CE program to study psychonephrology because it will allow them to learn the thought process of hemodialysis patients and how to properly understand their psychophysiological issues.departmental bulletin pape
MoU with Institut Supérieur des Technologies Médicales de Tunis, Université de Tunis El Manar in Republic of Tunisia - 1st Report
This report addresses the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between Institut Supérieur des Technologies Médicales de Tunis, Université de Tunis El Manar (ISTMT-UTM) in the Republic of Tunisia and Morinomiya University of Medical Sciences (MUMS) in Japan. This MoU confirms the mutually cooperative relationship between MUMS and ISTMT-UTM, while aiming to strengthen it by sharing information and views with ISTMT-UTM. Aditionally, the author describes the future efforts to develop medical engineers responsible for the maintenance and inspection of medical equipment exchanged between Japan and Republic of Tunisia.departmental bulletin pape
Nurses' Metacognition of OJT Difficulties: An Interview Survey of Nurses Experienced in OJT at A Hospital
[ 目的 ] 新人看護師への実地指導を行う看護師の実地指導上の困難におけるメタ認知を明らかにする。
[ 方法 ] 実地指導経験のある A 病院の看護師 6 名を対象に半構造化面接を実施し、実地指導上の困難に
おける看護師のメタ認知を抽出しコード化、カテゴリ化した。
[ 結果 ] 実地指導上の困難における看護師のメタ認知として、【教育の対象となる人の特性についての知
識】【自分自身の特性についての知識】【看護・実地指導の特性についての知識】の 3 つの《知識面》 と、【新人看護師や実地指導への懸念】【成長の機会となる経験】【実地指導の計画】【実地指導 中の自問】【実地指導後の振り返り】の 5 つの《活動面》が抽出された。
[ 考察 ] 看護師は、新人看護師に指導の意図が伝わらず指導が受け入れられないといった困難において メタ認知を活用していた。実地指導を行う看護師に対して、メタ認知に着目した教育的支援の 必要性が示唆された。[Objective] To clarify metacognition in on-the-job training (OJT) difficulties of nurses providing OJT to novice nurses.
[Methods]: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six nurses at Hospital A who were experienced in OJT, and their metacognition of OJT difficulties were extracted, coded, and categorized.
[Results] Nurses' metacognitions of difficulties in OJT were categorized into three “knowledge aspects,” namely, “knowledge of the characteristics of the person being taught,” “knowledge of one's own characteristics,” and “knowledge of the characteristics of nursing and OJT”. The following five “activity aspects” were extracted: “concerns about novice nurses and OJT,” “experiences that provide opportunities for my growth,” “planning for OJT,” “self-questioning during OJT,” and “post-OJT reflection”.
[Discussion] The nurses used metacognition in difficulties of being unable to convey the intention of the instruction to the novice nurses. The results indicate the need for educational support focusing on metacognition for nurses who provide OJT.departmental bulletin pape
Learning Effect for Improving The Nursing Practice Ability of Pregnant and Puerperal Women by Utilizing Simulation Education in Nursing Training
新型コロナウイルス感染拡大下において、母性看護学実習が余儀なく縮小されたことで、看護実践 能力の低下が指摘されている。そのため、演習科目では、補完的に実践的で質の高い新たな教育手法 が課題となっている。本研究の目的は、臨地場面を再現した高機能周産期全身シミュレーター(high- performance perinatal whole-body simulator: HPWS)
を用いて、学修目標の達成度とシミュレーション教育の成果を評価し課題を明らかにすることである。
対象者は看護大学 3 年次 85 名、実習前の演習科目で、従来の演習を基に HPWS を活用する学生 と活用しない学生の 2 群に分別した。学生は、妊産婦と褥婦の同2事例で演習を行った。演習後に学生 は ICT を活用した学務システム “MORIPA” でアンケート調査を実施した。調査項目は学生の「学修目 標達成度」「母性看護技術」「演習の興味・関心」「授業への満足度」を群別で比較し今後の課題を明ら かにした。
妊産婦の演習では、HPWS を活用した学生群がすべての項目で、活用していない学生群よりも高 得点で、胎児の健康状態の評価と演習への充実で、両群に有意差を認めた (p<.05)。
シミュレーション教育は、看護実践能力向上に効果的であるといえた。学生が困難と感じている胎児 の健康状態の評価は、さらなる改善が必要である。There has been a decline in students’ nursing practice ability. This decline has been attributed to the gradual decrease in clinical maternal nursing practice due to COVID 19 and its variants. Therefore, a new educational methodology that is complementary, practical, and high- quality is necessary to train nurses students.
This study aimed to evaluate the achievement level of learning objectives and the results of educational simulation using a "high-performance perinatal whole-body simulator (HPWS)" that reproduces clinical situations and clarifies related issues.
The participants were 85 students in their third year of a university nursing program. The students were divided into two groups: students who used the simulator (the Intervention Group: IG) and conventional training (the Control Group: CG). The students performed nursing diagnosis, practice, and evaluation of two identical pregnancy and puerperium cases. After the training, they answered a questionnaire using the academic affairs system "MORIPA" which uses information and communication technology. A questionnaire survey was administered to the participants, with the following survey items: “Goal Achievement Level (GAL),” “Maternity Nursing Skills (MNS),” “Interest in Training (IT),” and “Student Satisfaction Level (SSL).” Higher scores indicated higher academic achievement.
IG was higher than CG for all items pregnancy cases, with significant differences in observed in "evaluation of fetal health" and "fulfilling training" (p <.05).
We can interpret that simulator education is effective in improving the practical ability of nursing.

Patient statistics at Morinomiya University of Medical Sciences Cosmos Acupuncture Clinic (2007-2020)
森ノ宮医療大学附属鍼灸施術所(はり・きゅうコスモス治療院)の受療実態について分析し、当施術所の特色や課題を把握することとした。当施術所が開設された2007年から2020年3月末までの患者データが解析対象となった。2,333名(のべ治療回数39,176回)が来院し、女性1,327人(57%)、男性1,006人(43%)であった。初診時患者年齢の中央値(四分位範囲)は33(20-56)であった。初診時の主訴の内訳は「筋骨格系および結合組織の疾患」が2,432件(65.0%)で全体の大半を占め、「症状、徴候および異常臨床所見・異常検査所見で他に分類されないもの」が301件(8.0%)、「神経系の疾患」が287件(7.7%)と続いた。症状別にみると肩こりを中心とした頸肩背部の障害が930件(24.9%)、腰痛を中心とした腰背部の障害が794件(21.2%)と多かった。We aimed to clarify the characteristic and problems of Morinomiya University of Medical Sciences Cosmos Acupuncture Clinic from patient statistics. Patient data between 2007 when the clinic was established and March 2020 were analyzed. 2,333 patients (total number of treatments: 39,176 times) visited our acupuncture clinic; 1,327 (57%) and 1,006 (43%) patient for females and males. The median (interquartile range) age of patients at the time of the first visit was 33 (20-56). The most common chief complaint at the time of the first visit was “Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue”; 2,432 counts (65.0%). “Symptoms, signs and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings, not elsewhere classified”; 301 counts (8.0%), and “Diseases of the nervous system”; 287 counts (7.7%) were followed.
