TRISUTJI KAMAL'S MUSIC IN FOUR PERIODS
This article maps the works of Indonesian female music composer and pianist, Trisutji Kamal, whose career spanned 7 decades. The composer who died in March 2021, was celebrated for the Islamic element of her works. Using the whole oeuvre of her music, personal interviews and historical research, this article argues that the religious element comprises only one period out of the four periods identified in her long career. The article contends that Kamal’s musical style was shaped by European music but tuned into Javanese nuances in its harmony, timbre and dynamic, creating a sense of embellished dissonance. We conclude that this style was brought about by Kamal’s effort in integrating the East and the West, musically as well as culturally. BRIDGING SUSTAINABILITY AND POLICING TO BALINESE ORMAS CONFLICT: AN INTEGRATIVE CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The link between sustainability and policing has not been widely discussed and systematically analyzed in conflict resolution to gain long term goals of post-conflict recovery and reconciliation. A fairly large cross-disciplinary literature has developed and proposed a multi-dimensional notion of sustainability in organizational performance including public services and law-enforcement activities. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to present a conceptual framework to bridge sustainability practices and policing activities in the background of Balinese mass organization conflict. A conceptual literature review is adopted to customize diverse connections of sustainability, policing, and hence conflict. The results of the research show that the policing activities may place a stronger focus on conflict resolution by developing sustainable conflict transformation when there are regular conflict potential and a dynamic changing environment. The primary conclusion of this paper is that the relationships between sustainability practices and policing activities rely on divergent factors, including social dynamics, culture, organizational structure, and institutional landscapes
DANCE AND ITS POTENTIALS: IMPLICATIONS AND CHALLENGES OF THE CALABAR CARNIVAL OF SOUTHERN NIGERIA
Carnivals situate a state or nation in the global cultural map, for their especial merit of fostering for the host community, economic advancement and a healthier international profile in the diplomatic comity. The present study engages the relevance of the Calabar Carnival beyond the realms of entertainment and tourism, but as a politico-cultural agent in the global environment where diplomacy conditions the reputation, acceptability, and sometimes fortunes of nations. In a multicultural nation like Nigeria, where autonomous ethnic identity is an intense superstructure of indigenous beliefs, dressing, cuisine, and native performance; cultural diplomacy can play a significant role in regulating intercultural relations. Culture therefore, can play a nationalistic function as a unifier of divergent interests and orientations, especially within the thematic and logistical organisation of festivals and carnivals, and the touristic benefits they have for diplomatic intentions. The Calabar Carnival represents that nationalistic intent to explore and promote the objective of cultural diplomacy, both on the national and international frontier. The objective of the present study consequently, is two-fold. Firstly, to analyse the sociocultural implications of the Calabar carnival on the national polity, such that it validates the carnival's potentials in economic and touristic development. Secondly, to discuss the logistical and ideational challenges of hosting the Carnival, as well as possible ways of ameliorating them. The study takes its foundation in the theory of diplomacy, which submits that the more we meet people through trade and other platforms the more we outsource and propagate our native culture, values and ideas. The study employs the participant-observation, interview method, and content analysis of relevant literature, to pursue its objectives.KEYWORDS: Dance, Potentials, Implications, Challenges, Calabar, Carnival, Nigeri

A DISCOURSE ON THE ORIGIN AND MIGRATION OF THE ABOH OF THE LOWER NIGER OF NIGERIA
This study focuses on the origin and migration of the Aboh of the lower Niger. This is an area of African scholarship that has generated much controversy because it greatly determines group identities in their present locations. This is even more so with the Aboh whose history is characterized by multiple claims of origins which have so far denied them a pan identity. The aim of this study is, therefore, to address the contentious issues in their origin and migration, thereby opening up new vistas of historical scholarship. Sources collected for this study were both primary and secondary. The primary sources are made up of intelligence reports collected from the National Archives, and personal interviews with knowledgeable individuals on the subject. The secondary sources are library-based where relevant materials on the subject were consulted. The study deployed the historical method of analysis to address the subject. It argues that the dominant narrative of Aboh origin does not reflect the reality on ground, but constructed for political purposes. The conclusion suggests how best Aboh origin should be understood with the evidence provided by this study.KEYWORDS: Origin, Migration, Aboh, Lower Niger, Nigeri
