    FIRDOWSI: NATIONAL CHARACTER IN PERSIAN LITERATURE

    It is compulsory for every citizen to look after their national identity and to raise it up. Nationalism spirit will bring up confidence and national union in dealing with any foreign threats. Literature-sourced nationalism has become an important role in its exertion. It can be found in the most phenomenal literature in Persian, named Shah Nameh, written by Firdowsi that has made the people and the language of Persian risen out of “intellectual silence” during Arab conquest. In approximately three centuries, Persian territory was under Arab authority, though, Persian language has remained exist when other language in conquered territories were totally influenced by Arabic. In writings, some writers would always minimize the use of Arabic as a means of giving pressures on Arabic expanding influence in the region at that time

    This paper describes the beginning of the oil rivalry in the Dutch Indies. It begins with an overview of the political and economic relationship between the United States, The Netherlands and the Dutch Indies since the mid-19th century, namely the period when the oil industries in the United States and the Dutch Indies were still at an early stage of development. Since the independence of the United States of America, the two countries had very good relations which were evident from their various co-operations, including the Treaty of Alliance which was ratified in 1782. However, the Dutch colonial government’s policies which sought to restrict the American oil companies’ investment in the Dutch Indies caused discontent amongst the American government and American oil companies, straining their relationship with the Dutch Indies

    This study is an investigation into the genre of poetry, a highly rated genre of literature which has an intricate linguistic composition. Poetry often deploys carefully manipulated and intoned linguistic elements in its expression. Due to its complexity, a systematic approach of interpretation that would enable readers to predict and visualize the poet‟s thoughts is required. It is in the light of this that this paper examines the significant stylistics highlights in selected poems of Tanure Ojaide and how these attributes contribute to an understanding of the various struggles of the people of the Niger Delta . This study adopts the ideational discourse tool of stylistics as its theoretical framework. The data for this study are two poems; “Endless Song” and “The Dogma of Patience” drawn from Ojaide‟s volume of poetry under the title, The Endless Song. In the end, the paper lays bare an intensive comprehension and meaning conveying strategy of the selected poems, taking into consideration the intoned expressions, the linguistic choices made, and the envisaged language function alongside the communication effect, facilitating an easier comprehension of the Niger Delta struggle

    INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF RECORD SPECIALIST PROFESSION IN INDONESIA

    The institutionalization of record specialist profession is a way of the profession incorporation with the archivists (functional occupation based arsiparis) and professions in the life-worlds of Indonesian people nowadays. It helps record managers in organizations of various types and business to have better lives and positions getting accepted according to the values and job tasks they have performed to elevate the organization. The methods of observations, interviews, and focused group discussions are conducted to ground the meanings in this topic of interest within the span of three years time around 2015 – 2017. The result shows that institutionalization of the profession promotes the values of the individuals as members of the profession, in a way bring up resistance and accommodation to the archivist association members in facing the imaginary profession of record specialist. Record specialist is a profession carried out by citizens responsibly and dignity to and for the country, while record specialist individuals are the agents that continue to improve themselves under the regulator of independent associations. Recognition of independent record specialist profession takes place in non-territorial boundary. The interconnection between various and diasporic cultures and a record specialist’s way of life flow within the institutionalization of the profession

    Nollywood, the adopted name of the Nigerian Film Industry, can be argued, would not have been but for Igbo movie makers and business men and women. This is not a mean contribution to the economic, social and political life of the nation. But how much and to what extent has the industry been utilized by the film makers to uphold the integrity, culture, language and overall image of the Igbo nation? This paper tries to examine how the Igbo movie has been used or not used to rebrand the Igbo ways of life. How it has fared in the hands of the people, the makers and viewers and how it has treated the issues dear to the people, such as culture, language and identity. How far has the Igbo video film been faithful to, projected, or tried to preserve these ways of life of the Igbo people? The movie has become one of the major items on the people’s daily conversation menu and as such, cannot be ignored except by the most backward of people. This is why this paper sets out to examine ways via which the medium can be utilized to appeal more to the people, make their culture more relevant and create avenues for its projection and preservation

    In the beginning, Islam came to Indonesia peacefully. Islam entered Indonesia through acculturation spesifically in Java in the hands of religious leaders called Wali Songo. Opposite to that way, the Wahhabi‟s teachings who wanted to purify Islamic religion lead by the prophet and his companions period makes Islam in Indonesia become exclusive. The Wahhab‟s teachings which is in contrast of Islam Nusantara creates discomfort among all moslems, in particular, followers of NU, the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia. This is what the writer wants to answer by unloading the exclusive Wahhabism and intolerant thinking using the deconstruction analysis by Derrida. Before that, Foucault analysis of power relation will be used to broaden the language meaning dimension that influences language social system that is the background of Wahhabi‟s teaching. Using the deconstruction method, the researcher will unload hierarchical text elements to find new reading result of the existing text to produce a more tolerant meaning. This research is expected to be thinking contribution in solving religious teachings conflicts that root from reading texts exclusively, and to construct awareness among moslems about discourse of relative truth, especially as a new way of reading the texts with exclusive thinking

    This paper elaborate the representation of public libraries in Kokoro Library animated series by Takagi Nobuyuki. The purpose of this research is to understand the representation of public library in the culture of Japanese society as in Kokoro Library animated series. This study is using semiotic method with Roland Barthes‟ syntagmatic-paradigmatic analysis. The result of this study is that public library is described as a very valuable part of the life of families in Japan. This is supported by the roles of the three main characters as librarians running their libraries located on the mountain, communicating with users, keeping valuable collections, promoting and finding ways to protect the library from being closed down. Not only the three main characters, but urban society also supports the existence of the library

    MUSLIM WOMEN IN MIDDLE CLASS INDONESIA: POSTFEMINIST ANALYSIS OF WOMEN WEARING VEIL IN DEPOK (2010 – 2016)

    The presence of middle class is an urban phenomenon. Based on Asian Bank Development report, middle class has been risen in Asia since 1999 and Indonesia was among these countries. Indonesia is the most populated Muslim country in the world which is now facing the growth of middle class. In the other hand women and their bodies still be representatives of the nation economics’ face. Nowadays in the reformation era, many Indonesian women cover their body with Muslim clothes and veil. The number of middle class women wearing veil is increasing from time to time particularly in the middle of city such as Depok, where this research is conducted. This research aims to analyze the reason of these middle-class women who decided to cover their body with veil voluntarily, using postfeminist frame analysis through qualitative methods and interviews. Researchers were observing eight women of age between 20 to 63, who are living in Depok and decided to wearing veil throughout the year 2010 - 2016. From the result of our study, there was not any Islamic theological arguments given by women wearing veil during the interview. By using postfeminist analysis, media and free markets provided a role model of modern middle-class Indonesian Muslim women wearing veil as good girl and independent woman. On the other hand, those women believed conservative values such as marrying at early age and a rigid gender role. This practice of wearing veil for Muslim women is not Islamization and post-Islamization movement but a pop culture expression to establish them as a part of the middle-class group

    A game is a cultural product of a society that created it. In games there is a reflection of the cultural patterns and philosophical values of the community concerned. Every society has a different form of games, but there are also similarities to each other, which in essence is to meet the needs of the expression of togetherness among them. Ceki card game is a cultural product of Chinese society that has already spread among Malay community around Malaysia, Singapore and North Sumatra, even some other Indonesian ethnic such as Minang and Bali. Based on this background, this paper discusses how Chinese cultural traditions could be spread and accepted by other societies outside of ethnic Chinese, and whether there are differences and similarities between them. The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze the similarities and differences in the function and meaning of Ceki card game to the Mala communities of Medan, Minang and Bali. Sources of data are taken from literature review and field observation. This article is the result of qualitative research.     THE CONCEPT 0F PATIENCE, RESPECT AND HARMONY IN JAVANESE CULTURE

    The Javanese people began to recognise the variety of western literature after printing media was introduced by the Dutch colonial government. Since then, a lot of Javanese literary works written by Javanese authors have been published through mass media. It was a different condition for literature to develop compared to the preceding traditional handwriting period. In Javanese literature today, works of prose are varied into several forms, such as fairy tales, novels and even stories that are widely known in mass media, among them are Panjebar Semangat, and Jaka Lodhang. In the mass media the form becomes short stories (carita cekak, jagating lelembut, wacan boy, carios pedhalangan). Each of these forms has its own fans. The purpose of this research is to trace the concept or principle of patience, harmony and respect in Javanese culture applied by an author in a story. This research explores the story of Lamtara-Lamtara Pinggir Desa. The story is written by Sri Setya Rahayu, a story writer who often writes stories in Javanese. Sri Setya Rahayu is an active writer as her short stories, such as Panjebar Semangat, Jayabaya, Kumangdhang, Djaka Lodang, and others, are often published in magazines or tabloids
