    LOCAL MITIGATION OF PANDEMIC FOR SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC HEALTH ACCORDING TO JAVANESE CULTURE AND BELIEF

    Disease prevention is almost always done with a modern approach through medical science or other public health sciences. This approach is the primary reference in mitigating the spread of the disease. In fact, in Indonesian society, there are local wisdoms in the traditions of each ethnic group in tackling the spread of disease, for example, the Javanese tradition. Javanese culture has local wisdom in dealing with pandemics passed down from generation to generation. This study attempts to answer how the mitigation pattern in Javanese culture is. Anthropologically, pandemics can be studied under health anthropology on disease. By taking the case of the Javanese people in Indonesia, this article describes local ways of preventing and overcoming disease outbreaks or mitigating disease outbreaks. The data source of this article is produced from qualitative research through interview techniques, focus group discussions, online seminars, and the study of manuscripts from magazines published in Java. The results showed that local communities, in addition to knowing the causes of disease, also developed ways to prevent and eliminate diseases, and mitigate outbreaks and pandemics. Javanese people see the mitigation of diseases physically and psychically. Physical mitigation tends to be in line with modern medical methods and the application of new normal. The mitigation of psychics is done by using mantras and songs and developing Javanese attitude of “narima ing pandum”  (take it as it comes)

    Gondang Batak Toba is one of the popular traditions of the Bataks that bestows high artistic and cultural values for music because it has religious meaning important for religious and customary life. This paper aims to find out the religious meaning of gondang implemented in religious and traditional life. This research used a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods. Field data was ob- obtained through interviews with key informants of Gondang Batak Toba from an important traditional city on Samosir Island. The results have shown that the GondangBatak Toba is a religious ritual that can be implemented on religion to support worship and on custom in social life to establish and strengthen civilization. This social meaning is obtained from the religious value of gondang that is expressed in wisdom. These findings contribute to the advancement of social and religious life on Samosir Island

    Tazkiyah sebagai Epistemologi Irfani: Perspektif Wahiduddin Khan tentang Spiritualitas Perdamaian

    Religious views which tends to be exoteric and only looking at the formal legal aspect, often gives an over-sensitive views, emotional, and unconsciously giving violence actions.  Wahiduddin Khan is a figure who aware of this problem, so he develope the concept of tazkiyah as the basis for the spirituality of peace. Tazkiyah according  to Khan focused on intellectual development that touches the heart, so it built the integration between rationality and spirituality which is construct the forms a complete human being. This research was conducted with a descriptive qualitative approach through literature review. This research founded four stages of four stages of tazkiyah: abstraction, internalization, transcendence, and humanization. Tazkiyah is a combination of rational awareness, feelings in the heart (spiritual events) and practical actions that connecting two currents of centripetal and centrifugal motion. The inward movement is closer to mystical awareness and the outward movement is a form of participation in building traditions and social institutions. This combination will produce spirituality that manifests in the awareness and attitude of peace

    This article examines Islamic manuscripts stored in several collections of the people of Southeast Sulawesi (Baubau) and West Java (Cirebon and Indramayu), which have been digitized by the EAP British Library and the Digital Repository of Endangered and Affected Manuscripts in Southeast Asia (DREAMSEA). The study was conducted based on a paratext approach which explains the elements outside the written text in the manuscript. Practically, Arabic script and language are widely used in religious texts to transmit knowledge and Islamic teachings. However, it is not widely revealed that Arabic script and language are also used as magical practices such as amulets, medicine, invulnerability, the knowledge of using weapons, and the like used in various conflicts, both with others and with the colonial side. On the other hand, this paper illustrates that Arabic script and language in the magical tradition became an inseparable part of efforts to legitimize rulers in the archipelago in the 19th century

    The principal at madrasah in the education system has a very important role as a determinant of whether a school is progressing or not. This study specifically aims to determine the madrasa school leadership model at MAN and MA Qasim Al Hadi in Semarang. The research on the two madrasah model includes qualitative research, which takes the research locus of public and private Madrasah Aliyah. The results showed that the MAN Semarang in leadership adheres to a bureaucratic democratic system of democracy. This means that everything is done in accordance with standard operating procedures with modern management. While the leadership model at MA Qasim Al Hadi, the education system is strongly influenced by the central figure who has been appointed by the foundation as the head of the school (kiai). It is the figure of the kiai who spurs all movements in the educational process. Implementatively, the leadership model of the Head of MA Qosim Al Hadi can be seen from his personality and democratic character. Apart from being based on personality type, it also depends on the status of the madrasa (private). Thus the leadership model of MA Qosim Al Hadi can be said to be a charismatic leadership pattern

    The presence of Islamist activism in Ngargoyoso encourages the role of places of worship from places of voice of harmony to mouthpieces of intolerance. Sekar Ayu's interfaith women community counters the intolerant narrative. How did Sekar Ayu proclaim peace in Ngargoyoso? The purpose of this study is to determine the role of Sekar Ayu in building peace in Ngargoyoso. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with a sociology of religion approach. Data collection was through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Its data analysis uses interactive analysis models including data reduction, data delivery, and conclusions. Sekar Ayu's interfaith women community as a social movement of Ngargoyoso civil society is actively developing a culture of peace. First, Sekar Ayu actively builds communication and dialogue between religious groups and advocates for humanitarian and religious issues at the lower community level based on places of worship. Second, Sekar Ayu became a space for interfaith community encounters with various activities such as places of worship and family gatherings in it with discussions about religious, social, and cultural issues as a form of life dialogue. Third, Sekar Ayu empowers interfaith women to build a mutually beneficial life between religious groups. Fourth, Sekar Ayu's activities are expected to be a dialogue of sustainable life by emphasizing an inclusive, pluralist perspective, by promoting religion as a social ethic

    Resepsi Tafsir Q.S. Al-Mujādilah di Tik-Tok sebagai Upaya Edukasi dan Pembelaan Hak-hak Perempuan

    Tik-Tok is a medium that can educate various kinds of worldviews, such as social, political, legal, and religious issues. Through tik-tok content, people get the strengthening of Islamic values and gender in the QS interpretation video. Al-Mujādilah who fought a lot for women's rights, but not all videos circulating on tik-tok were not always true and valid, not even a few were patriarchal biased. This article aims to describe the reception of the interpretation of the Q.S. Al-Mujādilah on tik-tok as an effort to educate and defend women's rights. The research method was carried out with a qualitative approach where data collection was carried out by observing the tik-tok content and documenting the community's response. The results of this study indicate that tik-tok with the FYP algorithm has full power as social criticism to form a contextual religious understanding, conflict resolution, the study of Islamic issues and gender are packaged freshly as a new face that Islam is friendly to rights women

    Nilai Moral Kristiani dalam Ukiran Figuratif Sa’o Ngaza pada Masyarakat Ngada Nusa Tenggara Timur

    This article focuses on extracting one of the local wisdom, namely, figurative carvings on the traditional house (sa’o ngaza) of the Ngada community, East Nusa Tenggara, and reviewing it from the perspective of Christian moral theology. The method used is a qualitative one, employing especially a phenomenological approach and a narrative approach. The data are obtained from direct interviews with key informants who understand the figurative carvings on traditional houses and come from several villages in the Ngada Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The results show that the figurative carvings contain moral values, such as discipline, hard work, responsible leadership and integrity, loyalty, and sacrifice. These values can be called local wisdom and can be used as a reference for knowledge and understanding for developing moral character to overcome the leadership and social crises that still plague Indonesian society today

    Respons dan Adaptasi Pesantren Daar El-Qolam Tangerang terhadap Pandemi Covid 19

    Daar el-Qolam Islamic Boarding School is one of the relatively large Islamic boarding schools with more than a thousand students, and located in the red zone or at high risk of spreading Covid-19. This paper examines how the Daar el-Qolam responds to various government policies related to the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as adaptation strategies undertaken in the face of the pandemic. The research was conducted in June 2020 using a qualitative approach. The results show that Daar el-Qolam conforms in responding to various government policies related to the pandemic. When the government issued a new policy, Daar el-Qolam tried to follow the policy even though he had to change the existing policy or system. One of them is by repatriating students and stopping all activities at the boarding school. Thus, Daar el-Qolam's conformity can be seen from its efforts to always be in harmony and in accordance with group norms, which in this case is government policy. Meanwhile, the adaptations made by Daar el-Qolam are autoplastic and alloplastic. Autoplastic is carried out when Daar el-Qolam changes various internal policies to adapt to pandemic conditions, such as sending students home prematurely, conducting online learning, and providing facilities that comply with health protocols. Meanwhile, alloplastic is carried out when Daar el-Qolam changes the environment to suit the desired conditions, such as re-activating Islamic boarding school activities but with various changes in the learning process, santri lifestyle, and social and religious behaviour

    ISLAMISM IN ACEH: GENEALOGY, SHARI’ATIZATION, AND POLITICS

    This paper argues Islamism in Aceh Province, Indonesia, has a long history within the social structure of the Acehnese people. Genealogically, there are two factors to view Islamism here, namely the relationship between Islam and politics in the past, and the people’s cultural and social construction, which has a strong Islamic base. Therefore, the collective memory about the relationship between Islam and politics, as well as the construction, then has implications in the lives of the Acehnese people in closely viewing those from various aspects. This study applies a qualitative method in which the data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation. The findings indicate that Islamism in Aceh is not a form of compensation from the Government of Indonesia to quell the conflict, but rather the form of aspirations that come from below on the long-standing awareness in the cultural and social structure of the locals regarding the relationship between religion and the state. In addition, unlike similar studies involving the notion of Pan-Islamism, the result shows that Islamism is more likely as the demands to retrieve political recognition
