Poken Bante: a Tradition of the Mandailing Community in Welcoming Eid Al-Fitr
The Poken Bante is a Mandailing community tradition in welcoming Eid al-Fitr. This tradition is carried out on the last day of Ramadan. This study aims to examine the activities of Mandailing people in the Poken Bante tradition, to understand the relevance of the Poken Bante tradition and Islamic teachings, and to analyze the meaning and value of the Poken Bante tradition in welcoming Eid al-Fitr. This tradition was studied using qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The primary data was obtained through participant observation and in-depth interviews. Ethnographic notes are essential in primary data collection. Secondary data was obtained through articles, books, and archives. Data analysis in this research is ethnographic analysis by systematically examining the data obtained, the relationship between the data, and the overall relationship of the data. This research took place for one month, starting from the middle of Ramadan to Syawal in 1444 H (April - May 2023 M), located in Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency. This research found that the Poken Bante tradition is a meat market activity that arises on the last day of Ramadan due to the high demand for meat needs from the Mandailing community. The relevance of this tradition and Islam is reflected in the integration of Mandailing culture and Islamic teachings based on the Mandailing philosophy of Hombar do Adat dohot Ibadat. Media and Women’s Economy: an Empirical Analysis of Gender Equality Construction of Salafi Congregation in Lampung
Gender equality is an important aspect of building harmony in the family. Salafis, with their teachings of Islamic purity, is considered a religious organization that severely restricts women's activities. This reality makes the public think that Salafi women are domesticated, subordinated, and discriminated against in terms of gender. This study examines and explores the concept of gender equality in the Salafi family and how it is contextualized in reality and women's economic movements. This qualitative research uses observational data, periodic WhatsApp application interviews, and documentation studies. This study shows that, first, an understanding of gender equality has been developed in Salafi families in Lampung, although its implementation still requires negotiation by considering the rights and obligations of women in the family, as wives, mothers, and both. Second, while still paying attention to religious norms, Salafi women utilize social media, the internet, and digital technology to build businesses, partner, and connect with many parties. Third, the creativity of Salafi women in building homes as a place for entrepreneurship, no longer a domestic space, has been able to form alliances instead of causing conflict between home and workplace and clouding public perceptions that they are domesticated
Da’wah Rhetoric by Ustadz Abdul Somad and Ustadz Adi Hidayat in Conveying Da’wah Messages
The purpose of this research is to look UAS and UAH da’wah rhetoric to conveying da’wah messages in the public through YouTube media. The researchers examines using Aristotle's rhetorical theory. This type of study is digital research method, especially using YouTube as metadata. YouTube is the most successful accessed media. The methodology has two modules, a video discovery and a video meta-data collection.This study found three important findings.First, ethos dimension, UAS and UAH both have equal credibility in terms of their knowledge in the fields of monotheism, fiqh, worship, and morals. The difference lies in the power of expertise they have. UAS has slank vocabulary, experts in making analogies, and proficient in placing spontaneous humor. While UAH can be seen from his mastery of the semantics and thematics of the Qur'an as well as the location and position of the verses of the Qur'an. Second, pathos dimension, UAS and UAH both touch the emotions of the audience and spread love using advice and prayers. Last, logos dimension, UAS and UAH both have historical knowledge, ability to make analogies, create fiction, abstract experiences, and logical abilities
Religious Moderation Based on Ancient Manuscript in Maros District
The harmony movement in Indonesia has been carried out by the nation's predecessors. The remains of ancient manuscripts in Maros, South Sulawesi, are historical evidence that religious moderation has been practiced. This article aims to examine the practice of religious moderation in the Lontaraq Manuscript of Kassi, Labuang, Pacelle. Through the philological method, this study found the following findings. First, these manuscripts express historical events in the past which have very strong nuances of religious moderation in them. Slavery and extortion were commonplace at that time, but there were breakthroughs or efforts made by Karaeng to abolish slavery and extortion at that time. The breakthrough is through humanity, justice, equality of social strata, and love between the people and the authorities. Equality without caste strata is in line with the justice proclaimed in Religious Moderation. Second, differences in ethnicity, language, and religion become social forces with a culture of mutual respect
Analysis of Paradigm Shift Toward the Transformation of Nahdlatul Ulama’s Political Orientation
This article discusses the process of paradigm shift of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU)’s national politics orientation. Considering Thomas S. Kuhn's paradigm shift concept, particularly the revolutionary stages, there was a separation of the national political transformation period in NU. A paradigm shift which opens awareness in understanding the science does only happens in established objectivity. The product of ijtihad, due to the deposition of knowledge, always has natural subjectivity with what they believe as the truth. Thus, innovative movements in finding alternative linear formulations that can always form dialogue with the times must always be carried out. Through literary work, this article illustrates that demarcation boundaries of the occurrence of NU's national political shift characterized by the pre-normal phase, normal phase, anomaly-crisis phase, and new-normal phase. Utilizing Kuhn’s perspective as tool of analysis, this study finds out that there are a few stages of paradigm shift experienced by NU. NU's struggles marked the pre-normal phase as an embryo before finally becoming an organization. The birth and development of NU marked the intermediate phase as a socio-political-religious organization on the track of the struggle. The anomaly-crisis phase occurred when NU metamorphosed into a political party, involved in interests, and strayed from its goals. The new-normal phase was marked by NU's return to Khittah in 1926, which meant returning to a social-religious-based organization. NU has returned to the struggle to fill and maintain independence through national politics in this phase
Gagasan Instagram Mubadalah.id dalam Mewujudkan Islam Moderat di Indonesia
The phenomenon of radicalism in Indonesia goes on because of conflict and social friction among religious people. One of the reasons for this potential conflict is the development of information technology which makes it easier for internet users to disseminate the news they receive. On the contrary social media can also promote religious moderation ideas. Religious moderation protects religious people from going to extremes in insulting religious teachings which results in disunity. This article aims to find out the idea of the Mubadalah.id account in strengthening religious moderation, at the same time realizing moderate Islam in Indonesia. By using virtual ethnographic methods and content analysis techniques, this paper concludes that the Mubadalah.id account has carried the significant ideas as an effort to realize moderate Islam in Indonesia based on the four indicators of religious moderation of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion, namely: (1) promoting peaceful and tolerant religious principles; (2) upholding human values through gender equality; (3) voice for State Defense; (4) defending human rights, especially for women and children who are oppressed; and (5) strive for environmental preservation
Dimensi Relasional Filosofi Kuni Agu Kalo dalam Masyarakat Manggarai
This article aims to introduce a paradigm of life which is a guide and guide for the lives of the Manggarai-NTT people. For them, building relationships with others, the natural environment, and the Creator is one of the requirements for their existence as human beings. This is clearly seen in the ancient philosophy of kuni agu kalo. However, amid the pressure of progress and modernization, the implementation of the ancient philosophy of kuni agu kalo in the conduct of daily life is increasingly eroded. This is reflected in the fact that the culture of hatred and violence is getting stronger due to economic motives, social jealousy, and politics. In addition, the destruction of the environment is becoming increasingly massive. This research uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. The results of this research show that the kuni agu kalo philosophy can be a philosophical basis for the Manggarai people to build relationality towards each other, the environment, and towards the highest being. The Sufism Da'wah of Shaykh KH. M. Luqman Hakim on Urban Muslim Societies
The condition of urban society is haunted by the turmoil of facing the seemingly erratic turn of the times and experiencing a sense of loss from himself, namely the spiritual side. So, Sufism da'wah was born by KH. M. Luqman Hakim, a charismatic kyai and multidisciplinary religious scholar with the aim of treating their dry and withered spirit. The purpose of the research is to understand and explore more deeply the Sufism da'wah of KH M. Luqman Hakim in urban Muslim communities. The research is a qualitative phenomenological case study model and primary data is obtained from the interview and the documentation of KH M. Luqman Hakim’s da’wah and his jama'ah. Luqman Hakim’s sufistic recitation congregations spread across 7 major cities in Indonesia, as well as secondary data from scientific journals, books, websites, and documentation. The research found that Sufism da'wah by Shaykh KH M. Luqman Hakim was carried out in three forms, namely da'wah mimbariyah, da'wah through YouTube, and written da'wah. The main target of his da'wah is the urban Muslim community. The material is tailored to the diverse spiritual capacities of the congregation not only attracts his da’wah to urban Muslims of generations X and Y, but also millennials and Z generations
Tolerance Learning in Islamic Religious and Character Education Textbooks
Islamic Religious and Character Education (hereafter PAI) textbooks are part of an important means of teaching character values, including tolerance. Some cases of intolerance are still common in Indonesia and are even associated with Islamic religious education in schools. Therefore, there is a need to review Islamic religious education in schools. This study examines the PAI materials that include tolerance learning in Islamic religious education textbooks at the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade junior high school levels. This research is important so that in the future, tolerance learning materials can be provided to students in accordance with the portions. This study uses a literature review with a qualitative approach that analyzes the content of Islamic Religious and Character Education textbooks published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Independent Curriculum (7th and 8th grade books) and the Revised 2013 Curriculum (9th grade books). The data obtained are then collected and analyzed using the content analysis method. The data analysis techniques in this study used 3 data analysis steps, namely: data reduction, data display, and data verification. This study shows whether there is tolerance learning in Islamic Religious Education and Character Education textbooks or not. The results of the study show that the Islamic Religious Education and Character Education textbooks at the junior high school level strongly promote tolerance
