Integration of Communication and Education of Systematic Theology
Full text linkWe all know "that communication is not just the prerogative of a few specialists, but a basic dimension in any theological consideration related to the proclamation and deepening of faith" 1 • Our considerations, however, will apply this common rule to the education of systematic theology. The integration of communication and education at a theological faculty (the study of mass-media included) is often obstructed by the sheer amount of information. Consequently the study of communication appears as a break in the syllabus. (...) Die Kommunikation zwischen Kirche und UNESCO
Full text linkEhe man die Kommunikation zwischen Kirche und UNESCO heute beschreibt, schildert man am besten zunächst ihre Entstehung. Dadurch entsteht ein besseres Verständnis. Man könnte sagen, die erste Kommunikation der Kirche mitder UNESCO kam spontan, auf nichtoffiziellem Weg zustande. Und zwargeschah das gleich bei Gründung der Organisation, deren erste Generalversammlung Ende 1946 stattfand. Ein für Auslandsprobleme sehraufgeschlossener Priester, AbbeJean Rupp, später Bischofvon Monaco, Apostolischer Nuntius im Irak und heute Vertreterdes Hl. Stuhls bei den Vereinten Nationen in Genf, der damals in Paris die Ausländer geistlich betreute, errichtete auf Bitten des Apostolischen Nuntius in Frankreich, Msgr. Roncalli, des späteren Papstes Johannes XXIII., Anfang 1947 ein bescheidenes Verbindungsbüro, gestützt auf eine Gruppe von Beratern und Korrespondenten. (...) English Communications between the Church and UNESCO first developed from a Paris Coordinating Office which began in 1947 with Mgr. Roncalli, later Pope John XXIII. When, in 1952, a Permanent Observer of the Holy See with diplomatic statuswas appointed (the first observer also being Mgr. Roncalli), the Coordinating Office was retained as an Information Centre with an ecclesiastical advisor in the service ofthe International Catholic Organisations. Communication between the Church and UNESCOtakes different routes. - There is the presence ofthe observer from the Holy See; there are delegations and experts; personal contacts and contacts through Embassies, as far as the Vatican is concemed. In addition to the official relations of International Catholic Organisations with consultative status there are also contacts with the Catholic Coordinating Office through their publications, through participation ofCatholics in National UNESCO Commissions, membership in UNESCO Clubs, etc.
Konflikte im Kirchenfernsehen - Zum Beispiel "Blickfeld"

Mit diesen Worten kennzeichnete an einem Samstagnachmittag 1 das "Blickfeld - Kirche und Gesellschaft" im (ersten) ARD-Fernsehen die Arbeit christlicher Missionare. Ein indianischer Protestsänger trug seine Ansichten auf einer Kundgebung für bedrohte Völkervor. In deutscher Üb.ersetzung eingeblendethieß es weiter: "Nimm ein Kind, solange es noch erziehbar ist, verdirb sein Denken und seine Empfindungen. Geh und erzähl dem Eingeborenen, daß er Christ werden muß ... Stopf ihm die Heilige Schrift in den Rachen, würg ihm deine Worte rein, bis es ihm den Hals zuschnürt!" (...) English The organization oftheGerman TV is neither governmental nor private. It has a religious department which producesa monthly magazine underthe title "Vision, Church and Society". Ananalysis ofthe contributions to this magazine shows, that the editor ofWestdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) who is responsible for the transmission, is always trying to discover conflicts in Christian Churchesand to evaluate them critically in view of the official Church. This has led to several protests particularly from the Catholic side. The public organization oftheGerman radio stations prohibits tendencious and onesided Church criticism ofthat kind. Particularly because the Churches are part of public services carrying the broadcasting system, the editors cannot on their own authority transmit controversial topics only, but must give a balanced view of the whole Church, saysWilhelm Schätzler, in charge of radio and TV for the bishops\u27 Conference. He therefore requires that Church editors have to be mediators of religious news and of opinions as they are really represented in the Church. The two Christian Churches have a person responsible for radio and for TV at each station whose duty is to cooperate with the Church editors. In Iransmissionsofa pastoral character they have a decisive and theologically responsible position. In contributionsabout the Church these Church responsibles should cooperate as consultants. The right to control a station is given to the supervising board, which for the WDR is the radio council, where Church representatives can voice their complaints.
Der Bildschirm als Familienmitglied: Über die Wechselwirkung von Fernsehen und familialer Kommunikation
Full text linkSeit es Massenmedien gibt, schwankt die öffentliche Meinung in der Beurteilung ihrer Wirkungen zwischen Furcht und Hoffnung. Das begann mit der Entstehung des Pressewesens, als einerseits heftige Vorwürfe erhoben und kulturkritisch motivierte Befürchtungen geäußert wurden, die in den Zeitungen eine Quelle der Sittenverderbnis sahen, andererseits aber auch bereits der Gedanke auftauchte, man könne mit ihrer Hilfe zur Bildung und Erziehung eines Massenpublikums beitragen. Es setzte sich fort, als der Film erfunden wurde; neben dem Kampf gegen den Schundfilm stand das Bemühen, den Film für die Volksbildung und speziell für die Jugenderziehung einzusetzen. Befürchtungen und Hoffnungen wurden intensiver, als mit dem Fernsehen ein audiovisuelles Medium zum Einzug in nahezu alle Familien ansetzte. (...) English The discussion on the so-called New Media and their consequences for human society wavers between hope and concern. Therefore the people responsible for communications are looking out for assistance in decision-making. In this situation, the author coming from pedagogical interests tries to present the state of the researm on the influences of television on mildren and the family respectively. The first part presents the state of the questions today as weil as describes the mange in the assessment of TV. The main deliberations distinguish between psycological and sociological or socialisation orientated researm. From these the sociological one is more important for the subject of this study and therefore treated more extensively. The dependence of the impact of television from the communications structures of the family or the general climate or the pedagogical role of the family is especially considered. The third part finally discusses some pedagogical perspectives. After having presented and differentiated the main objections against television the specific mances of the medium for the family are treated. But also these mances are bound to the communicative possibilities of the family, determined by their existing structures.

On Gospel Guidelines and Critical Conceptual Frameworks
Full text linkWhen churches discuss communication, they are usually light on theory and move directly into their own preoccupations. That is normal for international organizations. When U nesco\u27s International Commission for the Study of Communication reported in 1980, for example, it made no pretense with respect to theory. All it indicated were possible correlations between research and its own interests. (...) ZusammenfassungWenn die Kirchen über Kommunikation sprechen, kümmern sie sich meist wenig um Theorie und gehen sofort zu ihrem Anliegen über, wie es für internationale Organisationen üblich ist. Die Kirchen sprechen von der Kommunikation Christi, der Kommunikation des Evangeliums, sie wollen Menschen gewinnen. Man kann ihnen das nicht vorwerfen, aber eigentlich müßten sie sich dessen bewußt sein, daßdies genau dem entgegenläuft, was sie predigen. Sie übernehmen zu leicht unkritisch die vorherrschenden Kommunikationstechniken und werden so leicht auch Teil einer ungerechten Struktur (Hamelink). Es gibt verschiedene Wege, mit berechtigten Zielen und oft unerwarteten Ergebnissen fertig zu werden. Der erste Weg wäre, sich weg vom rein kirchlichen Gebrauch der Medien voll der Kooperation in den weltlichen Medien auszuliefern. Die Medien werden hier einfach als Teil einer von Gott gewollten Welt gesehen, aber diese Haltung entspricht eigentlich nicht dem Ziel des Menschen, diese Welt zu gewinnen. Der zweite Weg wäre, das Anliegen der Kirche, Menschen zu gewinnen, gleichzusetzen mit gleichen Anliegen ähnlicher Organisationen. Dies wäre der Weg der elektronischen Kirche, von dem manche bezweifeln, ob er der Weg der Evangelien ist. Hier wird man wohl Richtlinien erarbeiten müssen, was teilweise versucht wird. (...)
