This study examines the challenges of integrating English for Specific Purposes (ESP) into Indonesia's Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) curriculum. As language teaching evolves, ESP integration addresses learners' professional linguistic needs but faces significant obstacles. Based on a literature study from peer-reviewed journals and academic databases, the analysis identifies key challenges, including teacher qualifications, instructional methods, theoretical frameworks, varied learner proficiency, inadequate materials, institutional policies, and the lack of curriculum guidelines and assessment strategies. The study emphasizes the crucial role of teachers in overcoming these issues, noting a gap between theoretical concepts and practical application in ESP teaching. Addressing these challenges is essential for improving language learning outcomes. The findings highlight the need for teacher professional development and collaborative efforts to establish comprehensive ESP integration frameworks. This study contributes to the discourse on language education in Indonesia, offering insights for future research to enhance teaching practices and outcomes

THE EFFECT OF STEM-PjBL AND ADVERSITY QUOTIENT ON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY

The mathematics learning development is colored by advances in science and technology. The integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in today's mathematics learning should be a priority. This is due to the improving need for Human Resources who are competent in the STEM field, includes the ability to solve complex problems. In digital era, Mathematical Problem Solving Ability (KPMM) is needed. The students' are required to be competent in technology. By collaborating STEM-PjBL in learning activity, it is expected. that students' have KPMM improvement. This research aims to determine the effect of STEM-PjBL and Adversity Quotient (AQ) on KPMM. This research used quantitative approach with quasi-experimental method and nonequivalent pretest-posttest research design. This research used two classes, namely the experimental class for STEM-PjBL model and the control class for scientific approach. This research was conducted in one of the high schools in Tangerang with a population of all students in grade XI with sample around to 39 students who were selected by purposive sampling. This study used two instruments, namely the problem solving ability test instrument and the AQ non-test instrument. The results showed that STEM-PjBL and scientific learning had a positive effect on KPMM. Meanwhile AQ also had a positive effect in all categories. Beside that, this research also showed there was no interaction effect between the two of learning models and AQ on students' KPMM. Students who received STEM-PjBL and scientific learning obtained n-gain of 0.48 and 0.35, which means that there was an improvement in KPMM with a quite good category.

Shift in the Use of River Transportation to Land Transportation in Banjarmasin City 2000-2020

    No full text
The river transportation in Banjarmasin City is experiencing a shift where people prefer to use land transportation over river transportation. This is happening due to several driving factors causing the community to abandon river transportation. As Banjarmasin City is dubbed as the city of a thousand rivers, this contrasts with the abandonment of river transportation. This writing aims to understand the reasons behind the shift from river transportation to land transportation for the people of Banjarmasin City. The method employed in this research is historical methodology, which involves four stages: heuristic, comprising the collection of historical sources such as data, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The research findings indicate several causes for the decline in river transportation usage, leading the community to shift to land transportation. These include river narrowing, construction of excessively low bridges, and accumulation of waste on the river surface, which hinder the speed of river transportation flow

UNLEASHING HIDDEN POTENTIALS: THE EFFECT OF SELF-RECORDING IN LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to know the effects of using self-recording in peer and self-assessment in language learning. This mixed-method research design with post-test control groups utilized speaking tests, rubrics, self-assessment checklists, interview guides, and teaching scenarios to collect data. Instrument preparation, validation, and reliability tests were all part of rigorous data-gathering procedures. Using stratified random sampling, participants were divided into control and experimental groups. Each group received different treatment, using self-recording for peer and self-assessment in the experimental group and traditional oral presentations in the control group. Speaking performances by students were recorded for self-and peer assessment, whereas the control group was assessed using a teacher's criteria. The results of the posttest showed that the experimental group fared much better than the control group, demonstrating the superior effectiveness of self-recording in enhancing speaking skill. In addition, the results of the interview confirmed that self-recording is meaningful for self-control, feedback, time-shifted assessment, equity, and fairness. More importantly, the transformative power of self-recording in assessments highlights the critical function of self-recording in strengthening self-regulation abilities. Thus, in educational and assessment contexts, this technique has the potential to unleash hidden self-regulation capacities, resulting in deep personal development and positive transformations

    Get PDF
Coordination sentences are those that operate effectively in both written and spoken discourse. The pivot system will discuss the Arabic coordination sentence in this research. This study aimed to highlight the syntactic typology and pivot system of the Arabic coordination sentence. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive and content analysis methods. This data was analyzed using the Miles and Huberman method. The data were obtained from the form of coordination sentences found in Arabic books and other sources that are considered relevant. The result showed that the Arabic coordinating sentences are formed by four types, namely (1) intransitive-intransitive, (2) intransitive-transitive, (3) transitive-intransitive, and (4) transitive-transitive. Eliminating FN for A and P in Arabic coordinating sentences differs from dropping FN for A and P in English and Arabic coordinating sentences. However, based on the syntactic constructions with indefinite verbs, Arabic grammar is the same as English and Indonesian. The findings of this study contribute insight and treasure to the wealth of science in syntactic typology
