PRAGMATIC FUNCTIONS OF PRESUPPOSITIONS: HOW PRESUPPOSITIONS SHAPE MEANING IN SPOKEN AND WRITTEN LANGUAGE

    No full text
This research examines how presupposition triggers a function in storytelling and debate genres to create meaning, finding that distributions of triggers and contexts of discourse determine interpretive dynamics together. The study confirms that definite descriptions make background assumptions in Arthur Conan Doyle's A Scandal in Bohemia and a free-speech debate transcript, and genre-conventional patterns result—narrative uses low-frequency-high-impact clefts and factices to regulate reader involvement, and debate uses plentiful contrastive ("but") and modal ("may") initiators to regulate contestable premises. With a convergent-parallel mixed-methods design, the study gathered and cleaned the entire text of the short story and verbatim debate transcript. Discourse analysis was used to identify and thematically code presupposition triggers, and automated scripts to count their frequency. Key results indicate that definite appear in 100% of narrative turns and 85% of argument turns, whereas "but" and "may" appear in 23% and 15% of argument turns but fewer than 1% in the narrative. The findings directly speak to the congruity between qualitative patterns (world-construction vs. argumentative setup) and quantitative trends. The research concludes that presuppositions are genre-sensitive tools: semantic triggers ground narratives, while pragmatic triggers propel debate dynamics. Consequences reach as far as dynamic semantics theory, high-level discourse pedagogy, and improved NLP models for presupposition detection

This study aims to explore religious coping strategies among physically disabled students. A qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach was employed to gain a deep understanding of the participants’ lived experiences. The subject of the study was a physically disabled adolescent residing in an Islamic boarding school. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations, and the validity of the findings was ensured using triangulation techniques. The results indicate that the subject was able to acknowledge and accept their physical condition. The religious coping strategies identified include the deferring approach, characterized by surrender and trust in divine assistance, and the collaborative approach, in which the subject sought meaning from adversity and actively attempted to resolve problems with reliance on God’s help. Additionally, the subject demonstrated positive religious coping, reflected in attitudes of patience, gratitude, and sincerity. The findings also highlight the importance of social support, with the strongest support coming from parents, followed by peers and the surrounding environmen

The insufficient understanding of number concepts at the elementary school level results in weak numeracy skills, impacting students' logical thinking and problem-solving abilities in higher education. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of an Android-based interactive multimedia, Mobil Matematika, in improving the achievement and learning motivation of third-grade elementary school students. Using the Research and Development (R&D) method based on the Multimedia for Learning model by Alessi & Trollip, the study involved third-grade students from SDN Dadaprejo 01 and 02, with 19 students for field trials and 18 students for product testing, as well as one teacher from SDN Pendem 01 and another from SDN Pendem 02 as expert practitioners. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, tests, and observations, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results indicate that Mobil Matematika significantly enhances students' understanding of number concepts and learning motivation by integrating Constructivism Theory and Self-Determination Theory. The interactivity and feedback provided help students build their own understanding, highlighting the potential of interactive educational technology in improving learning outcomes. These findings emphasize the importance of instructional design that supports students' emotional and cognitive aspects, as well as the role of interactive technology in strengthening mathematics comprehension in elementary education

Peran Mediasi Learning Agility dalam Hubungan Perceived Community Support dengan Students Future Readiness

    Get PDF
The rapid advancement of technology, globalization, and the ever-changing dynamics of the job market require education to adapt and prepare the younger generation to face future challenges. Preparing students for the future is a central issue in 21st-century education, emphasizing not only academic achievement but also critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, digital literacy, and character and leadership. However, various studies indicate that many students are not fully prepared for the real world after graduating from formal education. Mismatches between graduate competencies and workplace needs, poor problem-solving skills, limited technological skills, and a lack of awareness of social and environmental change are some indicators of students' low future preparedness. To successfully lead and manage learning in times of rapid change, leaders, educators, and students must think agilely—that is, be nimble, adaptive, flexible, and highly aware of their surroundings. One factor that can influence learning agility is community support. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of learning agility on the relationship between community support and student future preparedness. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey method. The subjects in this study were 234 students obtained using convenience sampling. Data collection was conducted using the Perceived Community Support Scale, the Learning Agility Scale, and the Student Future Readiness Scale. Data analysis was performed using the Jamovi program. The analysis results indicated a partial mediating effect of learning agility on the relationship between perceived community support and student future readiness

This research aims to determine the influence of General Allocation Funds, Original Regional Income, Receiving costs, and Remaining Budget Financing on ModaI Expenditures in the provinces of Sumatera and Java partially and simultaneously. This research uses a quantitative approach covering all 16 provinces in Sumatra and Java from 2018-2022. Data obtained from audited LKPD obtained from the BPK RI website. The results of this research show that ORI partially influences capital expenditure. Meanwhile, GAF, financing revenues and Remaining Budget Financing do not partially influence capital expenditure. GAF, ORI, financing revenues and Remaining Budget Financing simultaneously influence capital expenditure. These findings contribute to regional governments paying more attention to the factors that influence capital expenditure in their respective regions. The existence of data that does not meet the criteria means that the research cannot describe the population as a whole
