Experience Learning Cycle-Based Classroom Management: Prophetic Integrated PhET Virtual Labs to Enhance Students' Understanding of Wave Concepts

    No full text
Wave concepts in physics are inherently abstract and often lead to misconceptions, especially when virtual laboratory activities are implemented without structured classroom management and guided reflection. Additionally, virtual science learning is frequently focused mainly on cognitive outcomes, while character development, particularly integrity in scientific practice, receives less systematic attention. This study addressed this gap by developing and evaluating a classroom management guide for Virtual Science Labs (PhET Simulations) based on the Experiential Learning Cycle (ELC) and integrated with prophetic values to enhance university students’ understanding of wave phenomena while fostering character development. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), the study involved 14 fifth-semester students from the Physics Education Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. HAMKA in the 2024–2025 academic year. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, wave conceptual understanding tests (pre-test and post-test), and prophetic character observation sheets. Expert validation indicated that the guide was highly feasible, with a mean score of 3.67 (87.5%) for content validation and 3.33 (83.3%) for media validation. Effectiveness results showed significant improvement in conceptual understanding, with scores increasing from 42.50 (pre-test) to 85.40 (post-test) and an N-gain of 0.75 (high category). Observations also suggested successful enactment of prophetic values during PhET-based practicums, particularly Sidiq (90%) and Amanah (85%), reflected in honest data recording and responsible task completion. The novelty of this study lies in the systematic integration of ELC-based classroom management, interactive PhET visualization, and the operationalization of prophetic values within a single instructional product. Overall, the developed model is feasible and effective for supporting both conceptual learning and character development focused on integrity in wave instruction, offering a comprehensive contribution to higher-education physics education

The urgency of this research departs from the persistence of culturally rooted taboos that hinder open and accurate sexual education within the Tolotang indigenous community, leaving children and adolescents with limited guidance on puberty, bodily integrity, and protection from sexual violence. This study aims to: (1) explore how parents in the Tolotang community interpret sexual education; (2) describe the forms of sexual education practiced within Tolotang families; and (3) identify the barriers encountered in implementing sexual education. The research employed a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving 10 purposively selected informants—Tolotang parents with children aged 5–22 years and Tolotang youth aged 17–22 years. Data were analyzed through iterative stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings show that parents primarily construct sexual education as moral, ethical, and polite conduct in society, closely linked to the cultivation of shame (siri’), family honor, and strict adherence to customary norms, while sexuality itself is perceived as a highly sensitive and taboo topic for open discussion with children. Sexual education is conveyed implicitly through advice and prohibitions regarding interaction with the opposite sex, behavioral monitoring and control, and parental role modelling. Key obstacles include limited parental knowledge, the absence of culturally grounded institutional guidelines or programs, and strong beliefs that sexual issues should not be discussed explicitly. The novelty of this research lies in its contextualized analysis of sexual education within a specific indigenous belief community. The study contributes conceptually and practically to the development of culturally responsive sexual education models in minority cultural settings

Constructing Social Sanctions as a Preventive Strategy Against Sexual Violence in Indonesian Higher Education: A Mixed-Methods Study

    No full text
Sexual violence in higher education remains a persistent structural problem that cannot be effectively mitigated through legal and bureaucratic mechanisms alone, especially in contexts where cultural and institutional norms inhibit reporting and accountability. This study aims to examine how members of an academic community construct and negotiate the meaning of social sanctions as preventive instruments against sexual violence on campus. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-method design at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, the research first conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews with students, faculty, and university leaders to explore shared understandings, moral reasoning, and perceived barriers surrounding social sanctions. These themes then informed the development of a quantitative survey, which was administered to a broader sample and analyzed using non-parametric statistical techniques. The findings reveal a strong consensus that social sanctions function as effective normative controls when they are applied consistently, transparently, and in ways perceived as procedurally just and morally legitimate by the campus community. Quantitative results further demonstrate significant positive associations between perceptions of consistent sanctioning by faculty and institutional leaders and the overall acceptance of social sanctions as a legitimate preventive mechanism. These results suggest that institutional integrity, value-based education, and participatory community engagement are critical for sustaining effective prevention of sexual violence. The novelty of this research lies in foregrounding socially constructed sanctions—rather than legalistic responses—as the central analytic lens in a Global South university context using a mixed-method approach. The study contributes conceptually and practically by offering an empirically grounded framework to guide universities and policymakers in designing community-based, value-driven strategies to prevent sexual violence on campus

    No full text
KATA KUNCI Tinggi Gelombang, Refraksi Gelombang, Pulau Gusung, transformasi gelombang   ABSTRACT: Gusung Island, located in Makassar City, is a small island directly exposed to open-sea conditions and therefore strongly influenced by wave dynamics. One of the important wave transformation processes in this area is wave refraction, which is affected by seabed topography and incoming wave height. This study aims to analyze the effect of wave height on wave refraction around Gusung Island. A quantitative approach was applied using secondary data consisting of wave height, wind, and wave parameters obtained from BMKG for the period 2019–2023. The analysis was conducted by calculating wave characteristics and refraction coefficients based on wave transformation theory in shallow waters. The results indicate that increasing offshore wave height influences changes in the refraction coefficient, which in turn affects the distribution of wave energy around the island. These conditions have implications for abrasion and sedimentation potential in certain coastal zones. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for coastal management and planning in the Gusung Island area. Keywords: Wave Height, Wave Refraction, Gusung Island, Wave Transformation

Implementation of strategic national policies at the school level often faces adaptation and acceptance challenges in local institutions, particularly in regions rich in local wisdom such as Central Kalimantan. This study was conducted to analyze the integration of the local wisdom value handep hapakat (cohesion and mutual assistance) within the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) at SMPN 11 Palangka Raya. This background prompted a study focusing on the socio-cultural dimension of MBG, which has been effectively running for two months since September 1, 2025. The primary objective of the research was to analyze the implementation of handep hapakat, identify the roles of actors (teachers, students, parents) in the program's sustainability, and examine socio-cultural barriers. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and students. Thematic analysis was conducted using a sociological framework encompassing Solidarity (Durkheim), Inequality (Marx), and Habitus/Social Capital (Bourdieu). The main findings indicate that Handep Hapakat serves as a catalyst for mechanical solidarity (Durkheim). This is evidenced by students' spontaneous initiative in logistics mutual cooperation and the collective meal as a cohesion-strengthening social ritual. Teachers play a central role as guarantors of equitable distribution, ensuring consistent and fair portions, thereby effectively mitigating the risk of access inequality (Marx) within the school environment. Although a clash of taste habitus (menu boredom) was observed, the Handep Hapakat value is capitalized as Social Capital (Bourdieu), realized through the mechanism of sharing leftover food (anti-waste). The active role of teachers in shaping responsible habitus is also crucial. It is concluded that the success of the MBG program at SMPN 11 Palangka Raya relies on the harmonious integration between national policy and local values. The implementation supported by Handep Hapakat yields a Sustainable Implementation Model that not only achieves nutritional goals but significantly reinforces students' social character, collective responsibility, and social capital. The scientific contribution of this research confirms the important role of local culture in the adaptation and effectiveness of public policies at the grassroots level
