    The Measurement of Expected and Perceived Service of a Municipal Transport Based on Selected Medium-Sized Cities

    In the literature four basic postulates of transport are usually mentioned: time, convenience, cost and security of travel. The hierarchy of importance of individual postulates of transport depends on subjective evaluations of urban transport users. In the research carried out within the framework of research work financed from funds for science in 2010-2013 titled ‘Reference Model of City logistics and the quality of Life of Inhabitants’, measured the difference between the expected and perceived quality of urban transport services and defined a hierarchy of evaluated quality criteria.     Intermodal transport and especially container shipments have been characterized by a dynamic growth, both in Poland and globally. One cannot ignore the importance of technical preparation and organization of terminals which perform integrated loading units reloading. Various elements of IT infrastructure have been introduced to seaports for the last years and they aim at improving the working conditions. Ground terminals, usually small reloading centres, most often give up any modern solutions and blame it on the lack of appropriate funds.     Our investigation dealt with questions related to the raw material supply of a virtual energy-cluster. We examined those elements of production technology, in which the logistics methods and the optimisation of the flow of materials showed tangible results. The competitiveness of actors in the economic sphere is significantly determined by the effectiveness of their supply chain. The optimal solution to these tasks is provided by that combination of apparatus wherein both the “time factor” (JIT) and the efforts to minimise costs are realised. The supply chain we examined comprised of harvesting, transport and storage process elements; of these, harvesting in particular, due to its exceptionally high operating costs. We sought an answer to the question of whether it is better to transport the raw material directly to the processing plant or indirectly after temporary storage. In the case of indirect delivery, we wanted to know where storage facilities should be established and how many should there be in the interests of minimising totalcosts. We created and utilised a simulation model to solve the task. We established that in case of short transport distances (1-3 km), direct transport is feasible. In the case of greater distances, indirect transport and the development of micro-logistical storage centres is justified. The number and location of these micro-logistical storage centres can be exactly determined with the help of our model

The program enables users to quantitatively determine the indicators of the queuing systems. In order to show the program’s capabilities and how it can be used, two scenarios have been considered - modelling single-server and multi-server queuing systems of type M/M/1 and M/M/S, respectively, having a Poisson incoming flow of requests and exponentially distributed service times

    In this article, after discussing the concept of transport systems and the importance of its sustainability, stakeholder theory and club good theory are presented as useful instruments for analyzing different challenges for the sustainability of transport systems. This approach goes beyond the traditional discussion on private vs. public ownership or provision, and may better grasp the increasing complexity of transport systems. Stakeholders have different strengths and different priorities which may trade-off. This creates serious challenges for the sustainability of transport systems as well as its influence on the quality of life of different stakeholders. It will be argued that there exists the threat of transport systems to become a kind of club good by excluding parts of society from access and other benefits

    Ensuring Process Continuity of Multifaceted and Hybrid Supply Chains in Maritime Area

    The supply chain formula based on strict close interdependence between all its elements causes the smallest disturbance in one of the links to menace the whole supply chain, which is why it is so important for the participants to identify the weakest links of the supply chain and indicating, through complex analysis, potential situations threatening the realization of the whole process; this is possible by respecting unified criteria of proceeding both on domestic and regional level, and on global scale. Safety management in the supply chain is a process aimed at determining areas menacing its proper functioning. An element of this process is undertaking suitable activities, using proper means to eliminate risk or minimise the consequences of its occurrence. Along with economic development increased risk can be observed, as well as qualitative  changes in the character of appearing threats transposed from  previous well recognizable, mainly fate kind of risks, to categories pertaining to the conditions of activities and process realization. What is important, in the case of hybrid supply network, the threat bound with conduct of activity exceeds the framework of a single enterprise. As a consequence, the appearance of risk in any link or stage of process realization significantly affects the whole supply chain.The article presents guidelines aimed at ensuring the continuity of the functioning of certain processes, the assumed level by providing the resources and commitment of top management, the critical parameters identified and proposed solutions dealing with crisis situation.It was noted that an appropriate response to this situation depends not only on the availability of information about the incident, but also awareness and competence of employees. Modern hybrid form characterized by high complexity of the organizational, structural and task require all participants in the supply chain of involvement in the process and creating a positive image. Effective management of multi-level logistic network can not be confined only to the traditional and well-knows methods but requires uncommon merger holistic solution
