The Place of Reverse Logistics in the Modern Society
Logistics of modernity embodies the principles and approaches without implementation of which it is not possible to talk about competitiveness of enterprise, about its future prospects of successful development. Logistics creates the conditions under which the flow (of materials, information, finance, humans) becomes the main indicator of enterprises "life", highlights the effectiveness of management, capacity in a particular field, emphasizes the weaknesses and opportunities to eliminate them, indicating the flexibility and sustainability of the enterprise to risk situations. Application of Genetic Algorithms in Design of Public Transport Network
The paper presents possibilities of application of genetic algorithms in design of public transport network. Transportation tasks such as determination of optimal routes and timetable for means of transport belong to difficult complex optimization problems, therefore they cannot be solved using traditional search algorithms. It turns out that genetic algorithms can be very useful to solve these transportation problem
Ergonomic Evaluation of Physical Risk for Packing Line Operators
One of the elements of the logistics system is the subsystem of production, which is composed of physical elements such as machinery and equipment, tools, and, most importantly, people. In addition, systems dependent on the human-operator are particularly prone to problems related to: discomfort, ensuring production quality, increases in training costs and absence. The aim of the study was to assess the exposure of upper limbs to musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s) in the sequential packaging of a product, and the analysis of risk factors. Material and methods: To conduct the evaluation, the occupational repetitive action (OCRA) checklist method was applied. Rated activities related to the sequential packaging of furniture in positions located at the conveyor belt. Results and conclusion: High risk ratings occurred at two sites, whereas three were rated as medium. The main risk factors influencing the negative evaluations were: insufficient number of breaks, preventing the staff from getting sufficient rest and a short cycle - less than 15 seconds - due to the pace forced by the conveyor belt. Manufacturing engineers and specialists in the field of health and safety should pay particular attention to the organization of the packaging process, and should develop and implement a rotation system, taking into account the load of the upper limbs
Macro Models of Vehicle Kilometres Travelled
There are a number of ways to measure transport of which kilometres travelled is the most frequent macro indicator (at country level). It is used to estimate projected fuel consumption, potential number of vehicles, amount and type of exhaust fumes emissions and the number of road accidents and casualties. The paper presents macro models of vehicle kilometres travelled, built on the basis of data from some fifty countries worldwide. Next, the resulting model was calibrated for the conditions in Poland.
Differences in Value of Entrepreneurship Index in Rural Areas of the Lower Silesia Province
The article presents results of research on the relationship between the rate of entrepreneurship of rural and urban-rural province of Lower Silesia and the distance from the economic centres, as well as expenditures of counties on public roads.It is assumed that the main economic centres are the county towns of the Lower Silesia Voivodship. Entrepreneurial activity rate was defined as the number of business entities registered in the REGON system per 10,000 population of working age. Distance of rural communities from economic centres were expressed as the shortest road distances. The research shows that there is no statistically significant relationship between the ratio value of entrepreneurship in the municipality and its distance from the economic centre, but it exists between the average rate of entrepreneurship of the districts and their expenditure on public roads
New Road Pavement Technologies – Examples of Applications in Poland
The paper presents the applications of new road pavement technologies in Poland.The dynamic growth of car traffic in Poland has been observed. The average daily traffic on international roads has doubled over the last decade. It is estimated that it went from 6 to 12 thousand of vehicles per day. There are also road sections where the traffic flow significantly exceeds the level of 20 thousand vehicles daily. General traffic measurements which are systematically carried out by the road administration confirm this phenomenon. With this increase in traffic, the roads in Poland have been devastated. A fairly common phenomenon is rutting which is the result of driving overloaded trucks, especially in summer. The choice of the type of road pavement poses the problem for both investors and administrators. Without a doubt, factors to be taken into consideration include:1. Technical conditions2. The Methodology of Research for Elaborating the Concept of High-Speed Rail Construction in Australia – Conclusions for Poland
Australian economy is considered to be one of the most stable and competitive ones in the world. The country is a trading partner for more than 200 countries, with a 20% share of export in GDP. The economy is mainly based on services which constitute approx. 75% of GDP [1]. According to the UN Human Development Index, Australia is the second country in the world, after Norway, as far as quality and average length of life, health service and freedom of economic activities are concerned. The society’s wealth constitutes one of the key factors that influence the number of cars as per person. The number of cars, which prevail among the passenger means of transport, and their harmful influence on the environment forced the government to focus on limiting the number of private cars by means of, among others, the concept of constructing high-speed rail
Project for the Terminus at Redycka Street
The aim of the paper is to present a modernization project for the terminus at Redycka street in Wroclaw. The social amenity for the drivers and for the terminus staff has been designed. Additional equipment has been suggested, whose aim is to improve the terminus proper functioning. Also staff and passengers comfort has been taken into consideration. Proper pavement for the terminus has been designed as well
Connections between the Dry Bulk Freight Index and the Cyclical Economic Activity of the G7 Countries
The article analyses the connections between the dry bulk freight market and the economic activity of certain countries. The objective was to confirm the existence of a similar cyclical nature for the Baltic Dry Index and main indicators of the business cycle of the G7 countries. The applied macroeconomic variables were: the real GDP and the industrial production index. In examination a spectral analysis was used. The discovered identical periodicities were analyzed in terms of time relations. It was demonstrated, that the cyclical part of the BDI (periodicity of 13.1 and 15.3 quarters) either leads or is coincident with the indicators of the business cycle.The global financial crisis in 2008-2009 showed that the behaviour of freight indices was similar to stock exchange indices and macroeconomic variables in advanced economies. The Technical and Operational Aspects of the Introduction of Electric – Powered Buses to the Public Transportation System
Because of the need of introducing ecologically clean transport technologies, activities bound up with using electric propulsion in motor vehicles operating in public transport are undertaken. Technical and operational possibilities of introducing electric–powered buses to the communal public transport are shown in the article. The operation of that kind of fleet requires appropriate technical infrastructure involving charging electric-powered urban transport. Simultaneously, former experiences show strong mutual connection between technical sphere and organizational system of communal public transport in agglomerations. Hence, essential significance among other things is given to the layout of the functioning bus lines network and the organisation of bus operations on the lines (timetable). The models of the technical, organizational, economical and ecological links enabling optimal choice of type of bus propulsion were worked out, with the aim of solving this problem rationally
