An Integrated Approach towards Building a Simulation Model Supporting the Management of the Passenger Transportation System. Part 2 – Case Study

    Get PDF
This article presents a simulation model designated as an advising and forecasting tool for designing, redesigning and managing ground-based transportation systems. It considers both public and private transport means. It enables visualisation of the results of changes in the transportation network such as a new transportation mode, schedule adjustment, technology improvements on shuttle speed and other modifications that can influence the effectiveness of the transportation network. The simulation tool enables predictions of future passenger flow size for different means of transport. The simulation tool was developed after thorough analysis of interdependencies between variables in the transportation network model built upon an econometric model, artificial neural network and mathematical model. The simulation model was tested on the real data and determined to be very effective, useful and flexible in use. Successive phases of the model development proved that development of a reliable advising and forecasting tool requires a combination of different methods

The Impact of the Selected Attitudes of Drivers on Traffic Safety

    Get PDF
Drivers’ self image and perception of other drivers comprise the main road traffic factors under analysis in this paper. The impact of these factors on traffic safety was evaluated through a survey among drivers. The outcome of the survey led to interesting conclusions related primarily to the relationship between drivers’ behaviours and their self-assessment and assessment of others. A negative correlation was demonstrated for the latter factor. The more highly the respondents rate themselves, the less highly they rate the skills of other drivers. The study included a number of comparative analyses dealing, among others, with drink driving

Reinforced Soil as Road Subsoil Strengthening (Model Investigation)

    Get PDF
The issue of distortion and load bearing capacity of non-cohesive, monogenic and two layer soil, with vertical reinforcement, was analyzed. Separate inserts, single, double, triple and complex were used. Resistance parameters, in function of their characteristics, referring to reinforcement inserts, were evaluated. Soil base bearing capacity was calculated, on the basis of the research results of large size physical models distortion state, constructed on laboratoryscale

IT Solutions as an Important Instrument for Enhancing Competitiveness of the Logistics of Liquid Fuels in Poland

    Get PDF
The aim of the article is to present an innovative IT solution for monitoring transport in the process of fuel distribution, which was implemented in Lotos Paliwa in January 2013. Hardware and software requirements of the system, as well as the functional and  task-oriented structure were described in the article. In contrast to other standard applications supporting the management of liquid fuel supply chain, it is a unique solution which considerably contributes to a significant reduction of the levels of losses and extraordinarily increases the safety and quality of delivered goods. It is a tool which may become an important source of competitive edge during stagnation in the market of fuels

Organization of Non-Normative Transport in Poland

In Poland since a few years we can notice a increase in traffic. The largest part (over 85%), are trucks that typically have a width up to 2.45 m and a weigh to 24 tonnes. The road network in our country allows for easy and comfortable movement and transport of goods. The problem arises, however, when transported cargo exceeds the dimensions orloads for standard vehicle. Then we call it oversized or non-standard. All big investments are associated with the need to transport large, heavy or awkward form factor goods. The transport of oversized cargo by land roads has become increasingly popular. Despite the high costs of preparing the transport, land road are more often choose of transporting very large components. Travelling on public roads provide faster and more convenient transport in relation to waterways and railways. It make possible direct transport from A to B, without reloading the goods at railway stations and ports.Organizing such a passage is connected with the fulfilment of certain requirements, in accordance with the regulations and laws. If the load is larger, there are more conditions to must be met to obtain a permit for the carriage. In this article there is a characterization of the different categories of permits and shows all of the conditions that must be met in order to obtain the authorization. There is also placed an exemplary analysis of this bridge, comparing the effort of a bridge under load class A to the effort of the bridge, caused by load analyzed oversized vehicle. In this article you will also find information how to plan freight transport of oversized load and what do you have to look for when you choose a route. Although carrying loads of considerable size mainland becomes increasingly popular, the barrier is still a considerable amount of paperwork that must be met in order to be able to take place carriage. Also the time, we has to wait for permits and decisions of the authorities is very long. Maybe one day the law enters into force, regulating the rules of travelling and designating routes for which you will not need to do so many formalities. Today, however, we need to adapt to the prevailing regulations

Modernization Project for 1592D District Road Connecting Wierzbno with Polwica, Using High Modulus Asphalt Concrete AC WMS

    Get PDF
The paper presents a proposal for the modernization of a district road No. 1592D relation Polwica-Wierzbno. The aim of the modernization is to improve communication accessibility, increase traffic safety, ride comfort, and to adapt the surface to the current requirements. The technical condition of the road is insufficient, the surface is damaged, roadsides unsuitable and do not have adequate drainage. The degree of damage depends on many different factors. Over the last few years we have been observing significant growth of both transport and construction works. The main factor, influencing the condition of road pavements is high traffic, which results from agriculture development, and the same time more intensive participation of agricultural vehicles in slow-speed traffic, development of heavy good vehicles’ traffic, development of local population and growth of passenger vehicles
