The Role of Logistics Centres in the Region Development
The article focuses on the role of logistic centers in the environment of economic regionalization. The discussion indicates that logistics centers built in a particular area, create a specific economic climate which allows to consider them as a regional product. As a result, logistic centers with appropriate infrastructure of transfer would gain extra points for the change of the means of transport. Great needs of the country create a huge demand for the development of logistic centers, which in turn contributes to the development of a region. As they constitute a driving force of a country, the location of the new centers as well as upgrading and expansion of the existing ones, is very important

In social studies, the human factor plays the dominant role and is the main topic of these studies. In the technical field the situation is somewhat different. The authors of this study have concentrated on the influence of the human component in reliable supply chains. Logistical Problems in the Field of Railway Tracks Modernization and Maintenance Technology
The study presents the organization, mechanization and technology in the field of modernization and maintenance of Polish National Railway (PKP) lines, as well as in relation to the activities of the DOLKOM- Wroclaw company. Attention has been drawn to the major overhaul technology (resurfacing), the exchange of switches, surface maintenance and repair of the rail-bed (subgrade). The technological requirements, regarding the renovation and modernization of surface and rail-bed in the PKP railway network, have been discussed. In the field of rail-bed renovation, attention has been focused on the process of technological modernization of the track using a specialized multifunctional machine AHM-800R
Intermodal Transport and Road Transport in Poland – Results of the Study
The main objective of the text is to try to carry out the analysis with the predominant objective to try and present in realistic way the factors influencing the choice between a service realised only with the use of a road transport and intermodal transport. The author of the analysis put particular stress on the costs of the carriage service, time of its realisation and CO2 emission. The analysis also aimed at showing which of the presented technologies of service providing is more friendly to natural environment. This is due to the fact that the market for intermodal transport and road transport in Poland, knowledge of the mechanisms of price formation and the costs are still low. It is often difficult to determine the unit price of transport modes or mechanisms of shaping them. This results primarily from difficulties with the calculation of the actual cost of transport, terminal operations, management and other issues occurring in road transport and intermodal logistics functions
Physical Phenomena and Safety in Inland Waterborne Transport
The paper presents an analysis of the impact of the physical phenomena occurring during the movement of a vessel in shallow water on the number of accidents on inland waterways. On the basis of data on the accidents on German waterways it has been established that the phenomenon of ship squatting significantly contributes to accidents connected with the suction of the vessel to the bottom of the waterway. Such failures are the cause of over 35% of allthe accidents on inland waterways. Another factor increasing the probability of a failure is the negative impact of the waves produced by the movement of the vessel and of the screw race. The size of squatting and the intensity of the negative impact of the waves and the screw race depend on the sailing speed and the waterway restrictions

Operating Determinants of Maintaining the Operational State of Container Terminal Equipment
Science has developed a number of sophisticated assets maintenance theories and methodologies. However, the example of complex systems, like container terminals, shows that these advanced strategies are not always practically viable. The nature of the transportation industry requires a unique approach, combining two different aspirations – global solutions, on the one hand, and consideration of the individual needs and local circumstances of a terminal on the other. Equipment manufacturers, due to the small batch volume, usually apply nominally traditional maintenance strategies, which, however, elude specific factors that occur locally or only in certain situations. This work aims at drawing readers’ attention to this issue, by providing several cases, where the general solutions prove insufficient to local requirements of different nature. It also advocates for the development of customised maintenance strategy for a specific case
