From the 360° photo to the metaverse: conceptual and technical evolution of virtual and immersive journalism from Spain

Immersive journalism has evolved as technological resources have evolved. The same has happened with the media, journalists, and audiences and their interest in the format. This research focuses on a review of the literature, terminology, and state-of-the-art of immersive journalism between 2015 and 2022 in Spain, which has made it clear that there is robust academic research by Spanish research groups that contrasts with the reduced journalistic production, i.e., there is an asynchrony between technological innovation, professional practice, and academic research. It is noticeable the abandonment of the format as soon as the first moments of innovation passed, without leaving time for the digital literacy of audiences, and meanwhile, researchers in this field in Spain quantified and experimented with the phenomenon, without achieving feedback from the professional field, and therefore, without real impact on the development of the format for the sake of new virtual experiences now increasingly directed towards the metaverse.

A Delphi Study on Generative Artificial Intelligence and English Medium Instruction Assessment: Implications for Social Justice

The emergence of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) text generator tools and the potential challenges for higher education (HE) have characterised informal academic discussion on multiple fora. Specifically examining the case of English medium instruction (EMI) assessment academic integrity, this study sought to explore this conundrum by conceptualising threats and possible recommendations to counter these by creating a problemsolution matrix for key stakeholders considering the scarce academic literature available. An exploratory Delphi technique was employed as a way of generating ideas, gauging expert perspectives, and establishing consensus based on the premise of wisdom-of-(expert)-crowds. In the data collection stage, this new use of the mixed-methods methodology in the field included iterative Delphi questionnaire rounds and concurrent focus group sessions with a panel of 26 international experts. Quantitative and qualitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis, respectively. The resulting GenAI and EMI Assessment Problem-Solution Matrix is an empirically informed instrument for key stakeholders in EMI HE that exemplifies a range of GenAI-induced issues and recommendations as to how to proceed going forward in EMI HE pedagogical settings. This contributes to the field in line with broader theoretical assessment principles, particularly with those seeking to mitigate inequitable practices. Further contextual matters pertaining to social justice were highlighted, such as the effects of the massification and commodification of HE on the role of assessment in both EMI didactic contexts and others. The findings here take a step towards addressing the gaps identified but also represent a means of sparking much-needed further discussion in both extant literature and praxis

The performance of the community media has received recognition from institutions such as the United Nations Rapporteurship for Freedom of Expression (La Rue, 2009), the Council of Europe (2018, 2009), or the European Parliament (2008), which have highlighted their relevant role as promoters of social cohesion, plurality of information or the media literacy of citizens. However, the legal recognition granted to these citizen-owned media is uneven, depending on the country in which they operate (García-García & Lema-Blanco, 2021). This article aims to comprehend the mechanisms articulated by the Spanish free and community radio stations in defending the right of citizens to access the radio spectrum and to democratize the media system. A documentary analysis was conducted to study the case of the community radio Cuac FM (A Coruña, Spain). The results show the main milestones and the collective – relational, discursive and legal– strategies developed by Cuac FM in the period 1996-2022, to claim their broadcast rights at the institutional, political, and legal level and conquer their space on dial.

Improvement in the EFL Learning Process in VET Studies. A Structural Equations Model of Affective Variables: English Language Anxiety, Willingness to Communicate and Self-efficacy in English

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is undergoing an international and national improvement process in order to achieve internationalization, among others. To this end, it is necessary to optimize the EFL level of VET students. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is used to analyze the direct and indirect effects of English language anxiety, willingness to communicate in English, and self-efficacy in English on the academic performance in EFL among VET students. The sample consisted of 100 Spanish VET students (75% female - 25% male) aged between 18 and 40 years old. Questionnaires on English language anxiety (FLCAS), willingness to communicate in English (WTC), and self-efficacy in English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) were administered. In addition, academic grade was used to measure the performance in English. The proposed model received a satisfactory fit. The results show that English language anxiety significantly influences academic performance and has a medium effect on willingness to communicate in English. Practical implications for organizing English classes to improve English proficiency in VET are discussed

Impact of social desirability bias on the CoPsoQ-ISTAS 21 psychosocial risk assessment questionnaire

    No full text
BACKGROUND: Self-reported test is one of the main psychosocial risk assessment tools. However, this test it is susceptible to certain sources of error, including social desirability. Since psychosocial risks are emerging, there are not many studies on their assessment. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work is to analyze the impact of social desirability on the short version of the CopSoq-ISTAS 21 assessment tool. METHOD: A total of 563 workers (45.10% women and 54.90% men) participated in this study. The short version of the CoPsoQ-Istas21 questionnaire with four Likert scale questions as markers, which correspond to the Eysenck Personality Lie Scale Questionnaire Revised (EPQ-r), were used. The sample was divided into two halves, and both a confirmatory analysis and an exploratory analysis were carried out to find out the factorial structure of the scale and, with it, apply the bias filtering method. RESULTS: The results indicate that 10% of the scale is biased due to social desirability, and that there are significant differences between the group with bias clean scores and the group with scores without bias control. CONCLUSIONS: The effects of social desirability on the scale are verified, so it is concluded that in a psychosocial risk assessment is not enough to apply a self-report test and interpret its results, being necessary to minimize the sources of error
