    Education and Well-Being

    No full text
Education has always had an important place in public policy. Unfortunately, during the past decades education policies have been inspired by the human-capital approach; this approach views the education sector as an instrument to provide skills and knowledge for people to be productive and competitive and to generate greater income. The educational sector is key in the promotion of skills and the provision of knowledge for well-being; however, by focusing too much in generating human capital the education sector risks reducing its potential impact on well-being

International Students and Generative Artificial Intelligence. A Cross-Cultural Exploration of HE Academic Integrity Policy

    No full text
An exploratory analysis of tertiary education GenAI academic integrity policies has been undertaken, to examine provision for international students, having been identified as vulnerable to bias and integrity challenges associated with these technologies. A qualitative document analysis of 131 HE institutions (HEI) policies across 11 countries reveals mostly scant consideration of international students' needs, with the majority lacking any explicit provision. A subsequent SWOT analysis of exceptions to this generally indicates strengths in acknowledging diverse learner assumptions but weaknesses regarding specificity in articulating tailored expectations and support. These novel findings suggest international students have been largely overlooked by HEIs here despite generally significant economic contributions, reflecting the tenets of the commodification of HE. Results also highlight an urgent need to address gaps by incorporating international student voices in policy development,. Not addressing these issues risks exacerbating frictions, undermining academic integrity, and further disadvantaging this group in policy responses to GenAI

The purpose of this paper is to measure and contrast the advertising effectiveness, engagement, emotional bonding and level of attention generated by the official tourism portal of Peru, as well as its strengths and weaknesses from the perspective of two target audiences (phase 1 and 2). To achieve this purpose, the theoretical framework of the research is presented through conceptual supports and a methodology based on the triangulation of the following techniques: qualitative research and neuromarketing. On the one hand, UNIR university provides data on the application of three biometric neuromarketing techniques (eye tracking, facial coding and skin conductance) in a total sample of 20 people, 10 participants for phase 1 and 10 for phase 2. On the other hand, 10 indepth interviews (5 for each of the phases) were designed, applied and analyzed. The information obtained in both phases of the study is analyzed and compared. Subsequently, the results, conclusions and recommendations for the Peru Travel website are established. In addition, the hypotheses raised are corroborated or denied, and conclusions are drawn regarding the intensity and activation of the emotions generated, the aspects valued and the elements that should be improved in Peru's digital tourism platform. Self-regulation of learning in Chilean primary school students: Validation of an instrument and differences by sex and grade

    Get PDF
Self-regulated learning has been widely praised as a key competence for initiating and maintaining lifelong learning. However, despite its recognised value, the literature shows that it is still insufficiently rooted in schools and that students do not develop it automatically. The aim of this study was to validate an instrument for measuring self-regulation of learning in primary school students and to analyse differences in students’ self-regulation of learning processes by sex and grade. The method was developed from a positivist paradigm and a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 514 students from third to eighth grade of primary school in Chile. The results showed that the instrument has an acceptable structure [χ2/df = 3.55, p self-regulation of study and learning and self-efficacy for disposition to study variables, where women displayed higher levels than men. Also, in the strategies for disposition to study and self-efficacy for disposition to study variables, at the seventh and fourth grade levels, with the latter having higher levels. The discussion presents the potential practical implications, possibilities for research directed at timely intervention, and the impact on the quality of school education. It is concluded that girls have better self-regulation than boys, that self-regulation levels are suboptimal, and that self-regulation does not increase during the primary school years without intentional training.

Human Impact on the Environment and the Increased Likelihood of Pandemics

Es un capítulo del libro: Akıllı, E., Güneş, B., & Gökbel, A. (Eds.). (2023). Diplomacy, Society and the COVID-19 Challenge (1st ed.). Routledge.COVID-19 is the fourth pandemic to hit the world since the turn of the millennium, after SARS, swine flu, and MERS. It has been the most devastating so far, thus focusing global attention, but scientists have warned about the threat posed by pandemics for the last three decades. A major driver for that threat is the human impact on nature during the new geological era known as the Anthropocene. This chapter looks at some of pandemics' main factors: disruption of the environment, which leads to human contact with zoonosis carriers; urbanisation and globalisation, which facilitate the proliferation and spread of pathogens; intensive animal farming, which renders diseases more lethal and prone to crossing species barriers; and finally, climate change, which expands the geographical range of species that can transmit zoonoses. This chapter concludes by providing an overview of initiatives that broaden our notion of security to include the ecological and socio-economic dimensions and argues for rethinking our development model
