Digital Reading Comprehension: Multimodal and Monomodal Inputs under Debate

    No full text
In today’s digital context, it is essential for students’ academic and personal development to improve their digital reading comprehension. A comparative analysis of digital reading comprehension between three modalities is presented: dual (multimodal), auditory, and visual (monomodal). We used an experimental design and a standardized test (PROLEC-SE-R) of reading comprehension administered to 132 secondary school students in their first language. The quantitative analysis, which considered age, gender, and academic achievement, shows that there are significant differences in favor of dual modality or multimodality in digital reading comprehension. This shows that multimodality improves the level of digital reading comprehension the most. In particular, there is a significant difference in favor of the literal level of digital reading comprehension compared to the inferential level in all modalities studied (dual, auditory, visual). This yields pedagogical implications for optimizing digital reading comprehension

This study assessed the impact of counter-mapping on university students’ perception and knowledge of their cities, focusing on cultural diversity, urban dynamics, and social challenges. Using a quasi-experimental design with pretests and posttests in the province of Alicante, Spain, changes in the understanding of urban geography, everyday life, and cultural diversity were analyzed among 54 Geography Didactics students. Likert scale surveys and open-ended questions were employed, complemented by statistical and qualitative analyses, to measure knowledge and perceptions before and after the counter-mapping project. The results indicate that although quantitative correlations did not show statistically significant significance, qualitative analysis revealed significant and profound learning. Participants uncovered the hidden layers of their urban environments and gained a better understanding of the complexities and challenges of their cities. The project promoted the development of critical skills such as analytical thinking, active research, and effective communication, proving to be a valuable pedagogical tool that surpasses the limitations of traditional teaching methods and encourages active and committed citizenship. This inclusive and multidimensional approach enriches the diversity of experiences and knowledge, significantly contributing to the teaching of urban subjects, community engagement, and social responsibility and laying the groundwork for the proper tourist, cultural, social, or urban planning of city spaces

The Great Patriotic War is one of the most tremendous war events and heartbreaking events carried out by Russia in the 20th century, a past very present in today’s Russian society, where history, myths and memory converge. Likewise, the cinema continues to be a great teller of stories, some inspired by realevents and others fictitious, whose ideological and emotional intention is never innocent. This article, precisely, analyzes the film Panfilov’s 28 Men (2016), following the methodology of cinema and history relations, approaching the context where it is produced, and where myth and history are confused in a very intentional way: an exaltation of Russian nationalism and the sacralization of some events at the service of an official history. Reliability, Knowledge Translation, and Implementability of the Spanish Version of the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination

    Get PDF
Purpose. This study aimed to: (a) translate and cross-culturally adapt the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE) into Spanish; (b) evaluate its intra- and inter-examiner reliability; (c) support a knowledge translation and tool implementation program in early intervention; and (d) evaluate its reliability and implementation for professionals one year after receiving training. Materials and methods. The translation followed the World Health Organization’s recommendations. Reliability was assessed in 25 infants aged between 3 and 15 months with identifiable risks of cerebral palsy (CP). The implementation was also evaluated by analyzing the reliability of professionals without previous experience of the tool by using a pre-survey and a follow-up survey one year after training. The survey covered aspects related to the use of early detection tools of CP and the use of HINE, including attitudes, opinions, and perceptions. Results. An excellent intra- and inter-examiner agreement was obtained for the total score of the HINE intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC = 0.98 in both indices). One year after training, the professionals also showed excellent reliability values (ICC = 0.99), as well as an increase in sensitization and skills in evidence-based practices for the early detection of “high risk” of CP. Conclusions. The Spanish version of HINE is a reliable measure for the neurological evaluation of “high risk” of CP and can be administered after standardized training and without costs to acquire the evaluation. This allows its accessible and widespread implementation in the clinical context

Determinants of Grade Repetition in Spain. Analysis of Cognitive and Socio-Economic, Mediated by Ethnic Factors

    Get PDF
Grade repetition is an issue with important educational implications. This study analyzes the effect of cognitive variables, socio-economic status, as well as the interaction of socio-economic status with ethnic origin, on the probability of not repeating. Data were collected to calculate socioeconomic status using the Hollingshead Socioeconomic Index, and the following tests were administered to collect information on cognitive variables: the Primary Mental Aptitude Test (PMA), the Raven's Progressive Matrices Test, and the Wechsler Intelligence for Children Information Scale (WISC IV). The sample consisted of 664 students of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), Baccalaureate and intermediate and higher vocational training. The results confirm the predictive power of socioeconomic status. With regard to cognitive variables, significant results were only obtained when the WISC-IV Information Scale was taken as a predictor, this measure being related to crystallized intelligence. The influence of the origin of the students did not yield significant results. There is a clear need for a debate and a rethinking of the issue leading to the identification of new strategies to reduce grade repetition and its negative effects.

Legal grounds for psychological abuse "ex iusta causa" for disinheritance in recent jurisprudential doctrine

    No full text
With the realization of this jurisprudential study, our main objective is to delve into the existing doctrine on psychological abuse as a cause of disinheritance in accordance with the provisions of article 853.2 of the Spanish Civil Code and in light of the most recent Supreme Court sentence 267/2019. Civil Chamber, dated 05/13/2019. As we will have occasion to examine, in said ruling the Supreme Court confirmed that psychological abuse was included within the just causes to disinherit the children or descendants, by rejecting the allegations made by the disinherited children in their mother's will. It was also shown that both brothers engaged in behavior of contempt and family abandonment with respect to their mother and testator, without any justification and only attributable to them. In short, to disinherit means to deprive of the legitimate, by means of a testamentary provision of the deceased, any of the forced or legitimate heirs, and the aforementioned sentence reaffirms as legitimate said ex iusta causa of disinheritance of the descendants.
