William Marion Reaves
Born 1934, in Newark, New Jersey, and died 2000. An incredible historian with over 50 local history publications and abstracts to his name (including "Strength Through Struggle"),Bill Reaves compiled the invaluable Reaves collections. This fantastic collection of historical and genealogical information were salvaged from 100 years of newspapers when the local paper, the Wilmington Star News, decided to purge their files. Mr. Reaves received many awards for his work in local history. He wrote columns on local history for the Wilmington Star News, was actively involved in historic preservation in the community, and worked at the historic sites throughout the region

Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point in Southport is the largest ammunition port in the nation. It is the Army's primary east coast deep-water port, run by the 597th Transportation Group. It opened in 1955.
Fort Bragg is a large U.S. Army installation located mostly in Fayetteville, NC. It was built in 1918, and is the home of the U.S. Army Airborne Forces and Special Forces, as well as the U.S. Army Command and U.S. Army Reserve Command
