Jean Jones

Jean Arthur Jones was born in Bandung, Indonesia, and has lived all over the world. He is an award-winning author, with several books of poetry, and is a major contributor to the writing and poetry scene in Wilmington, NC. His stories have been published in many literary magazines, both print and online. He attended St Andrews Presbyterian College, the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and Bowling Green State. His works are in the New Hanover County Public Library
The Kassens Family
The Kassens family at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill's North Carolina Collection with the 1599 George Durant bible. George Durant was Dr. William D. Kassens, Jr.'s 9th great-grandfather.

Dr. Williams Kassens, Jr. practiced medicine in Wilmington, NC for over 30 years. He was a graduate of New Hanover High School, and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery. His wife, Catherine, is also a doctor
Katie Tate Grady

Katie Tate Grady (1910-2002) was born in the Wilmington area. She was married to Louis Grady and had eight children. Grady was an active member of the Wilmington community and belonged to many clubs in the Rock Hill area. She was also a member of St. James Ame Church and participated in many home demonstrations
Beverly Skinner

Beverly Skinner (1944- ) is a Wilmington local who was a Story Lady for the Growing Readers Project in the late 1990s-early 2000s. The project took library books and held storytimes for daycares and preschools in New Hanover County. Beverly is also an accomplished actress who appeared in many productions of the Opera House Theatre Company at Thalian Hall, as well as in several films including Stephen King's "Night Flier.

Leon E. Walker is the father of Annette Janssen of Wilmington, and was born in the Rocky Mount area of North Carolina. Elizabeth Andrews, his mother, was born near Kinston. Earl C. Andrews was a tugboat captain for International Paper

Dorothy Kadala (1949- ) is a Media Coordinator with the New Hanover County school system. Neil was born in 1986, and Annie was born in 1984. The Kadala family lived for several years in the Netherlands before moving to Wilmington, NC
Walter Graham Moore

Walter Graham "Bud" Moore (1925-2005) was born in Charleston, WV, but frequent visits to the family homestead in Burgaw, NC, inspired him as an adult to move back to Burgaw and renovate the home in 1980. He worked for DuPont at the Kinston and Cape Fear plants, and served as Town Commissioner of Burgaw from 1991- 1995

Woody Kell Beddoes (1950- ) was married to Emily Long Beddoes (1957- ) at Lebanon Chapel on the grounds of Airlie Gardens in December of 1990. Lebanon Chapel was built in 1835 to serve those members of St. James Episcopal church who lived in the vicinity of Greenville, Wrightsville, Masonboro and Middle Sounds, as well as vacationers in the area. The Beddoes still live in the area, and Woody runs a construction business

Smart Start is a program in North Carolina that concentrates on providing comprehensive services for children ages 0-5 to ensure that they have all they need for healthy growth and development. The program funding for early care and education has led to the Growing Readers and Raising a Reader programs implemented with the co-operation of the New Hanover County Public Library. The library staff helps to enrich learning environments in childcare facilities by training childcare providers in early literacy teaching techniques, and in providing age appropriate books and materials for classrooms
