    Orton Hotel was built by Col. Kenneth M. Murchison in 1888. James Walker was the general contractor. In 1896 Col. Murchison leased the building to R.W. Wallace and Co. In 1900 the rooms were 2.50-3.50 per day. The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1949

    Dr. Robert Martin Fales, son of James Benjamin Franklin and Maggie Delena Hewlett Fales, was born February 25th, 1907, in Wilmington, N.C. He married Miss Sarah Taylor, and attended Wake Forest and Jefferson Medical College, where he earned his M.D. (1932). He was President of The New Hanover Medical Society (1947) and was the main supporter of the campaign for New Hanover Memorial Hospital. He was also a medical historian and lecturer

    Dr. James Buren Sidbury, Jr., son of James Buren, Sr. and Willie Daniel Sidbury, was born January 13th, 1922, in Wilmington, North Carolina. His father James and sister, Rowena S. Hall Lenart, were also Physicians (Pediatrics). He married Ms. Alice Rayle and attended Yale (1944) and Columbia University, where he received his M.D. (1947). He was part of the Pediatric faculty at Johns Hopkins (1955-1961) and at Duke Medical Center from 1961-1974. He was the Scientific Director for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the National Institute of Health 1975-. He made over 100 contributions to medical journals and lectures. Dr. George M. Koseruba was the son of Russian parents who immigrated To Canada. He earned his M.D. at Southern California's Loma Linda University. He came to Wilmington in 1939 to serve his internhip and first year residency at James Walker Memorial Hospital. DUring the 1940's, he worked at the Babies Hospital in Wrightsville Beach, which at the time was the only pediatrics clinic in the state. He specialized in blood transfusions in babies suffering with anemia. He served in the ARMY from 1942-46 and treated soldiers at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he also studied tropical diseases. He was a part-time Pediatrician at Knox Clinic Pediatrics and retired at the age of 92. He died of congestive heart failure December 23rd, 2007, in Wilmington, North Carolina
