Legacy networks, both fixed and mobile, which were originally designed for voice communications, are progressively migrating to new infrastructures that promise to revolutionize the services offered. In this paper, we will cover this new generation of personal communication services, with an emphasis on the family of Internet protocol (IP)-based multimedia subsystem (IMS)-aided infrastructure that relies on the session initiation protocol (SIP). As a benefit, the end users will enjoy a new generation of personal communications services that are accessible anywhere and anytime. These services are timedia subsystem (IMS)-aided infrastructure that relies on the directly related to the end users rather than to their diverse devices. It is anticipated that the new deployments of next-of the IMS technology. generation networks (all-IP based) will accelerate the adoptio

An FPGA-based systolic array to accelerate the BWA-MEM genomic mapping algorithm

    No full text
We present the first accelerated implementation of BWA-MEM, a popular genome sequence alignment algorithm widely used in next generation sequencing genomics pipelines. The Smith-Waterman-like sequence alignment kernel requires a significant portion of overall execution time. We propose and evaluate a number of FPGA-based systolic array architectures, presenting optimizations generally applicable to variable length Smith-Waterman execution. Our kernel implementation is up to 3x faster, compared to software-only execution. This translates into an overall application speedup of up to 45%, which is 96% of the theoretically maximum achievable speedup when accelerating only this kernel.Accepted Author ManuscriptComputer Engineerin

    No full text
The corpus of the biblical plays of the Spanish Golden Age is very limited compared to the enormous number of dramas created in that century. Some of these titles have dubious authorship such as the case of David perseguido y montes de Gelboé, initially attributed to Lope de Vega. The play, printed only in single chapbooks and mostly in the 18th century, has always been the subject of concern in the research of Lope scholars due to its style and versification. The stylometric advances have provided a potential authorship for the comedy, with this being Antonio Martínez de Meneses, author of the Calderón cycle. The stylometric analysis is guaranteed by the study of the work of Martínez de Meneses, where the comedy fits within his lexicon, style and type of versification typical of the playwrights who followed Calderón

<p>(A–B) semithin sections from sciatic nerve of Wt (A) and uPAR null mouse (B) showing normal fiber appearance. (C) Similar fiber type distribution in Wt and uPAR null sciatic nerve. (D) Neurophysiology analysis showing similar values of cMAP and NCV between Wt and uPAR−/− mice (n. 10 mice per group). (E) g-ratio did not show differences in myelin thickness between Wt and uPAR−/− nerves (n. 20000). (F–K) sciatic nerve cryosections of Wt and uPAR null mouse stained for fibrin fibronectin and vitronectin. Fibrin and vitronectin staining was mildly increased in uPAR null endoneurium (G and K) as compared to Wt (F and J), whereas fibronectin was similarly expressed (H–I). (L) Western blot analysis of fibrin and fibronectin in Wt and uPAR null sciatic nerve homogenate. Calnexin was used to normalize loading (fibronectin and vitronectin were loaded on the same gel, hence they have the same calnexin bands). r = densitometric ratio between the band of interest and calnexin; Wt was always assigned as r = 1. Fibrin and vitronectin levels were increased in uPAR null nerves as compared to Wt, whereas levels of fibronectin were similar. Fg = fibrin; Fn = fibronectin; Vn = vitronectin; Nf = neurofilaments. It was developed and evaluated a prototype of a cart for harvest labours, sitting; changing the position of the workers, drastically, with the purpose of diminishing the incidence of lumbar injuries and to improve the efficiency of work. The cart was designed and developed by the author of this thesis. It was constructed in the workshops of the Design College of the University of Talca and co-financed by Sercotec. The evaluations done were the followings: Ergonomic characterizations of the operators, measure of the cardiac rhythm, evaluation of effort and comfort during the operation of the cart and estimation of the efficiency of the use of the cart during the harvest. The tests were done with the help of the ”Centro de Estudios en Alimentos Procesados” (CEAP), locating the farmer and strawberries orchard, where the tests took place. The results showed that the use of the prototype allows a substantial change respect to the comfort of the operator and an increase in the efficiency in the labour of harvest of a 25% respect to traditional harvest. There was not a significant statistic effect in the energetic consumption of the operators, measured by checking the cardiac rhythm, nevertheless, when evaluating the burden of work individually, according to the cardiac rhythm and the oxygen consumption, this one, diminished to a 50% in some cases. In conclusion, the study determines that the use of the cart is a contribution in favour of the conditions that are submitted the operators who perform labours in low crops

Transition Modeling and Econometric Convergence Tests

    No full text
A new panel data model is proposed to represent the behavior of economies in transition allowing for a wide range of possible time paths and individual heterogeneity. The model has both common and individual specific components and is formulated as a nonlinear time varying factor model. When applied to a micro panel, the decomposition provides flexibility in idiosyncratic behavior over time and across section, while retaining some commonality across the panel by means of an unknown common growth component. This commonality means that when the heterogeneous time varying idiosyncratic components converge over time to a constant, a form of panel convergence holds, analogous to the concept of conditional sigma convergence. The paper provides a framework of asymptotic representations for the factor components which enables the development of econometric procedures of estimation and testing. In particular, a simple regression based convergence test is developed, whose asymptotic properties are analyzed under both null and local alternatives, and a new method of clustering panels into club convergence groups is constructed. These econometric methods are applied to analyze convergence in cost of living indices among 19 US. metropolitan cities.Club convergence, Relative convergence, Common factor, Convergence, log t regression test, Panel data, Transition

    No full text
