ROCKY FORUM | The De-Italianization of Rocky Balboa: The Italian Stallion's Path to Becoming an American Hero
Author: Juan Rodríguez Santos University of Alcalá Download PDF version If you polled Americans to identify which character in all cinema best represents American values, it is quite likely that many would choose Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). Without a doubt, the image of Rocky fighting with the colors of the American flag and defeating the Soviet boxer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) is already a Hollywood icon. In Rocky Road: The Hero's Journey of Rocky Balboa Through the “Rocky” Ant..
ASEAN Rules of Origin: Lessons and Recommendations for Best Practice
Rules of Origin (ROO) set the criteria in determining the nationality of a product and where a product was made. The importance of ROO has increased in the past years as more countries engage in Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and begun treating goods differently according to where the product was made, along with trade-specific preferences or restrictions to the imported good once its origin is determined. This study is done to cull the lessons from ASEAN's experience in determining and implementing the Rules of Origin. It draws the important lessons and makes recommendations for best practice that would contribute to the cooperation and integration efforts in the region. The paper examines the various design and implementation practice in ROO regimes, focusing on RTAs where the ASEAN is involved. The paper presents findings from recent studies on the cost of ROO compliance and the FTA utilization rates. It concludes with recommendations on simplification of ROO and some reforms on administrative procedures, bringing in the development country dimension, and some general guidelines to follow to improve ROOs.Rules of Origin, Free Trade Agreements, ASEAN.
The aim of this work is to address the literary production of Juan Balboa Boneke from the perspective of deterritorialization, marking him vitally and scripturally, like many other Equatoguinean and African writers. Within the important role that the landscape plays in his literary production, given his condition as an exile, we will focus on how the author establishes different geosymbols in his work in order to reinhabit that lost landscape, using words—through an interesting linguistic operation—that fill the void of a distant, stolen space. We will also see an unequal treatment of that landscape through the different genres that he cultivates.635617AHCI11,0ERIH PLU
Three-dimensional shape measurement using fiber optic low-coherence speckle interferometry
SPIE's International Symposium on Optical Science, Engineering, and Instrumentation, 1998, San Diego, CA, United StatesA low coherence speckle interferometer implemented using single mode optical fibre and a multimode laser diode as a
pseudo-low coherence source is described. The design of the interferometer is presented and demonstrated on simple test
objects. Signal processing techniques to improve the performance ofthe system are discussed
Each day is a new creation: Guidelines on living a life of purpose
Through inspirational lessons like Don't Be Afraid to Reach for the Stars, Kathleen encourages us to live our daily life with a sense of purpose, passion, and anticipation. The stories originate from her many encounters with wonderful people whose paths so miraculously interconnected with her own. Some of them stem from her role as a registered nurse, psychologist, coroner, teacher, daughter, wife, mother, and friend. Others are from the perspective of people that she has come to love and admire. Although each subsection can be read on its own, when taken all together, they form a guide for living life more fully. -- From publisher description.bookPublished

A sequential microbial‐mediated pro-cess developed in two steps was examined to recover multiple elements. First, wemade use of an acidophilic bacteria consortium, mainly composed of Acidiphiliummultivorum and Leptospidillum ferriphilum, isolated from acid mine drainages. Theconsortium was inoculated in a dissolution of e‐scraps powder and cultured for15 days. Forty‐five elements were analyzed in the liquid phase over time, includingsilver, gold, and 15 REEs. The bioleaching efficiencies of the consortium were >99%for Cu, Co, Al, and Zn, 53% for Cd, and around 10% for Cr and Li on Day 7. Thesecond step consisted of a microalgae‐mediated uptake from e‐scraps leachate. Thestrains used were two acidophilic extremotolerant microalgae, Euglena sp. (EugVP)and Chlamydomonas sp. (ChlSG) strains, isolated from the same extreme environ-ment. Up to 7.3, 4.1, 1.3, and 0.7 µg by wet biomass (WB) of Zn, Al, Cu, and Mn,respectively, were uptaken by ChlSG biomass in 12 days, presenting higher effi-ciency than EugVP. Concerning REEs, ChlSG biouptake 14.9, 20.3, 13.7, 8.3 ng ofGd, Pr, Ce, La per WB. Meanwhile, EugVP captured 1.1, 1.5, 1.4, and 7.5, respec-tively. This paper shows the potential of a microbial sequential process to revalorizee‐scraps and recover metals and REEs, harnessing extremotolerant microorganismsFundación Alfonso Martín EscuderoDepto. de Producción AnimalFac. de VeterinariaTRUEpu
Lipin-2 regulates palmitic acid-induced NLRP3 inflammasome activation in macrophages
Response of the imaging cameras to hard radiation during JET operation
The analysis of the radiation damage of imaging systems is based on all different types of analogue/digital cameras with uncooled as well as actively cooled image sensors in the VIS/NIR/MWIR spectral ranges. The Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) code has been used to determine the neutron fluence at different camera locations in JET. An explicit link between the sensor damage and the neutron fluence has been observed. Sensors show an increased dark-current and increased numbers of hot-pixels. Uncooled cameras must be replaced once per year after exposure to a neutron fluence of ∼1.9–3.2 × 1012neutrons/cm2. Such levels of fluence will be reached after ≈14-22 ELMy H-mode pulses during the future D-T campaign. Furthermore, dynamical noise seen as a random pattern of bright pixels was observed in the presence of hard radiation (neutrons and gammas). Failure of the digital electronics inside the cameras as well as of industrial controllers is observed beyond a neutron fluence of about ∼4 × 109 neutrons/cm2. The impact of hard radiation on the different types of electronics and possible application of cameras during future D-T campaign is discussed
Special Economic Zones and Economic Corridors
Various reports show that special economic zones (SEZ) have become a prime catalyst for regional development in developing countries such as China and the ASEAN countries. The SEZ can be defined as a specific geographical region with economic laws that are more liberal than a country's typical economic laws. Many SEZs have characteristics of bonded zones, export processing zone (EPZ) or free trade zones and provide special incentives, including tax exemption or reduction to investors. The purpose of the paper is to enumerate the candidates for SEZ in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV countries) according to four types: "metropolitan areas," "ports and harbors," "border areas" and "junctions or intersections." The first two types are based on the experience of forerunning ASEAN countries and the latter two are based on the economic corridors of the Greater Mekong Sub region Economic Cooperation Program. The paper concludes by identifying locations for the questionnaire and flowchart approach-based surveys, and presenting country-specific strategies.ASEAN, SEZ, Port, Harbor, Junction, Economic Corridor, CLMV, GMS.
