    Le «buone letture». 2. Giovanni Casati

    No full text
The study consists of two parts; the first is dedicated to the history of the Federazione italiana delle biblioteche circolanti cattoliche since its foundation (1904) up to 1912 and was published in the previous volume of the «Nuovi Annali », XXVII (2013), pp. 137-163. In this second part, the author outlines the intellectual figure of Giovanni Casati, who directed the «Rivista di letture» from 1912 to 1944, transforming the magazine of the Federation in a journal engaged in the spreading of Catholic culture. To this militant engagement Casati matched an intense publishing program, which found its expression in the publication of literary essays, manuals and reference works

Optical generation in semiconductor-device analysis, a general purpose implementation

    No full text
The description of the optical-generation phenomena has been incorporated in the semiconductor-device analysis program HFIELDS. This has been achieved by introducing a number of optical windows and interleaved material layers through which a radiation with arbitrary spectrum, incidence angle, and polarization state enters the crystal, and by evaluating the corresponding generation rate at each node of the discretization grid. The code equipped with this new capability makes the description of realistic semiconductor optical sensors feasible

In the late medieval and humanistic novellas, owing to their very realistic character, the right is an important central and inevitable element in community life. Giovanni Sercambi’s novelliere is no exception even if the author lacks a legal culture, nor is specifically interested in right. This essay intends to analyze these novellas under this profile to verify what kind of right they consider and how the stories are enriched

Thicking Effect in Dry/Wet Field Oxidation

    No full text
By using a test structure especially designed for SEM cross sectioning analysis, it has been observed that the growing of Field Oxide in submicron opening is also affected by compressive mechanical stresses induced by the thermal oxide growth under the oxidation mask, i.e. at the bird’s break region. Experimental data show a new effect, i.e. a field oxide thicking phenomenon which developes at 0.7:-1.5 micron opening width. The thicking effect competes with the well known thinning effect and causes a shift on the appearance of the Field Oxide Thinning to narrower mask openings

John Cage e a poética do silêncio

Venetian cardinals at the Papal Court during the pontificates of Sixtus IV and Innocent VIII : 1471-1492

The histories of particular cities and states within that myriad-faceted slice of civilisation, the Renaissance in Italy, have received more scholarly attention than have the diplomatic, ecclesiastical and cultural connections between them. This study is part of a balance-redressing process. Senior clerics traversed frontiers, owing allegiance to their native state, their benefices and, above all, to the Papacy. The purpose of this exploration of the curial careers of four later quattrocento Venetian cardinals is essentially twofold : to account for relations between Venice and the Papacy with reference to individuals who were at once Venetian patricians and princes of the Church; and to examine the cardinals' responses to this situation in terms of political, ecclesiastical and cultural patronage. Where did their loyalty lie? To Venice, with its perennial suspicion of the Church and peculiar notion of the characteristics of a Venetian cardinal? Or to the Pope, expressing overt hostility towards the Republic in the War of Ferrara and placing it under an interdict? Chapter one sets Merco Barbo, Pietro Foscari, Giovanni Michiel and Giovanni Battista Zeno in a Venetian context. Chapters two and three chart relations between the two powers, from the exposure of Cardinal Zeno's involvement in a scheme to transmit Venetian state secrets to Rome in exchange for ecclesiastical preferment, through to Ermolao Barbaro's controversial appointment to the patriarchate of Aquileia, via the short-lived Papal-Venetian league negotiated by Cardinal Foscari in 1480. The fourth chapter considers their proximity to the Supreme Pontiff and how their material fortunes varied under popes Sixtus and Innocent, after which an assessment of the nature, extent and effectiveness of their patronage is divided between chapters five and six, focussing pa.rticularly on Venetian connections. Despite diverging careers, it is concluded that all were bound by variations of the Venetian inheritance

The concept of religious experience in D.T. Suzuki's works

    No full text
The theme I wish to analyse is the interpretation of the practice of Nenbutsu, typical of Pure Land Buddhism, in the writings of D.T. Suzuki in the light of his theorisation of the concept of ''religious experience''. I think it is relevant because, although it is a circumscribed topic, it helps to better understand the relationship between Suzuki (commonly considered the major propagator of Zen in Europe and America) and Pure Land Buddhism; as will argue in the thesis, it also allows us to analyse in detail the concept of ''experience'' in Suzuki, which many scholars consider particularly critical (i.e. Robert Sharf). Even more generally general, I believe that the thesis may be relevant in redefining the perhaps too sharp divisions between Tariki and Jiriki, divisions that are still important in the world of Buddhological studies. The questions I I intend to answer are: What does Suzuki mean by ''religious experience''? How is this concept articulated in Suzuki's thought? How does Suzuki's idea of ''experience'' influence his interpretation of nenbutsu and, in general, of Amidist Buddhism? The main objective is, through the analysis of a topic circumscribed topic, to propose content that may be useful for broader discussions such as those already mentioned (the Suzuki experience, Suzuki thought, the Jiriki-Tariki split)
