Design of a Partial Discharge Test Platform author: Daniel Harmsen thesis advisor (mentor): Dr. Armando Rodrigo Mor abstract: Partial discharge (PD) measurements are an effective tool for insulation diagnostics and assessment. Therefore, a good understanding of these PD measurements is an essential part of an electrical engineer’s background knowledge. During this research project a PD test platform was designed and build for electrical PD detection. The setup included artificially created defects for six different types of PDs, with origins in positive and negative corona, internal discharge, floating electrodes, free-moving particles and surface discharge. These defects were designed to have a partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) of around 10kV, and could easily be connected or disconnected from the setup. Therefore, it was possible to measure individual defects or a combination of them. This PD test platform was used during this research project to characterize the different PD types (single and multiple), and as a check for testing new clustering and pattern recognition techniques. In addition, the platform could also be used as a test platform for educational purposes and to train people and test equipment. In this thesis research project, the “initial step” towards PD defect origin recognition for AC voltage without any phase dependency was conducted with the use of time-resolved partial discharge (TRPD) analysis. This thesis shows that it is possible to conduct the time analysis and recognition for AC voltage for the artificially created defects. From the analysis in this thesis, it can be concluded that the TRPD analysis for PD recognition under AC voltage is as good as, or even better than, phase-resolved partial discharge (PRPD) analysis. For most of the data analysed, the TRPD analysis provides the same results compared to the PRPD analysis. However, further checking is needed, such as validating the findings with mathematical models. The thesis goals are to build a setup suitable for the research, determining the optimal combination of hardware/software to discriminate among different types of defects, and to realize experiments to validate the design.Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer ScienceDC&E

Os reinos de Daniel: profecia e política em Portugal e na Inglaterra do século XVII

    No full text
Foi a partir destas questões que procuramos realizar este trabalhoMajor political changes shook the kingdoms of Portugal and England. After 60 years, a Portuguese king would sit on the Portuguese throne, restoring with himself the old prestige and all the symbols of the Portuguese monarchy. A few years later the English monarch Charles I (1625-1649) would be tried and convicted of high treason against his own subjects. The English crown had come into disrepute, ousted by a new challenge to the idea of the divine power of kings. In this troubled world of the seventeenth century, among the many interpretations that emerged leveraged by these unique historical events, we highlight two, that starting from a similar basis, the visions of the biblical prophet Daniel, arrived at different conclusions. However, when seen side by side the prophetic ideas of John Rogers - one of the prominent names among the Fifth Monarchy Men and Father António Vieira - author and defender of the faith in the imminent coming of the Portuguese Fifth Empire – may serve us to reveal that some of the alleged borders of this Europe in crisis, as the confessional line exacerbated in the Thirty Years War, could be more permeable than some had postulated. How the differences and similarities between the discourses of the English preacher and the Portuguese Jesuit may reveal distinct traces of these historical characters as well as their own troubled realms? It was from these questions we sought to undertake this work149 f

The urban dormitory: Reducing the negative consequences of studentification in small-sized university cities

    No full text
Globalized universities located in small cities are expanding at a rate beyond the spatial capacity of its host city. The resulting presence of student housing in these cities known as ‘studentification’, have cascading social, cultural, economic, and spatial impacts that lead to, in particular, a lack of co-existence and tolerance between the university community and the local community. Existing research have primarily focused on how studentification has materialized in cities through negative consequences. As the influx of students continue to increase in an unprecedented rate in Delft, a need to understand fundamental conditions that contribute to negative consequences arise in order to propose strategic interventions for their mitigation and transformation. This research aimed to thoroughly understand the studentification process in Delft and recommend a long-term strategic plan towards co-existence. The methods used in this research involved delimiting or expanding on practices of other European cities experiencing studentification through the political, spatial, and socio-cultural lens of Delft. Through this research, the urgency and complexity of studentification were clarified and called for a comprehensive approach that transcended conventional practices.Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences | Complex Citie

Por último se hacen sugerencias en modificaciones de los procesos con el único ánimo de mejorarlos y evitar reprocesos y altos costos por stock de productos finales y excesivo consumo de recursos energéticos.ABSTRACT: In this project we applied one by one the steps of the Theory of Constraints in Agregados Del Norte, looking for the main objective of minimizing service times of the carriers, subordinating production scheduling, maximizing and suggesting changes to increase the capacity in the current processes. This paper is intended to suggest fundamental changes which according to the author, they serve to meet the immediate needs of customers, thereby increasing sales and the satisfaction of the carriers, adding value to our service that will affect positively the good name of our products in the Beach Materials market. The data and tables shown here come from the process of collecting real data every month, and when it’s analyzed under the guidance of the Theory of Constraints it shows some new methods and ways of working that would be worthwhile to implement despite the initial problems that can occur when changes like this are implemented. The Theory of Constraints has worked and has been successful worldwide, which is why the author proposes this option together with a series of controls and indicators that can detect and correct problems immediately. Finally, we make suggestions on changes in the processes with the only aim of improving them and avoiding reworks and high costs related to finished product stock and excessive consumption of energy resources.EspecializaciónEspecialista en Gerencia de la Producción y el Servici

Glasius bio-inspired neural networks based UV-C disinfection path planning improved by preventive deadlock processing algorithm

    No full text
The COVID-19 pandemic made robot manufacturers explore the idea of combining mobile robotics with UV-C light to automate the disinfection processes. But performing this process in an optimum way introduces some challenges: on the one hand, it is necessary to guarantee that all surfaces receive the radiation level to ensure the disinfection; at the same time, it is necessary to minimize the radiation dose to avoid the damage of the environment. In this work, both challenges are addressed with the design of a complete coverage path planning (CCPP) algorithm. To do it, a novel architecture that combines the glasius bio-inspired neural network (GBNN), a motion strategy, an UV-C estimator, a speed controller, and a pure pursuit controller have been designed. One of the main issues in CCPP is the deadlocks. In this application they may cause a loss of the operation, lack of regularity and high peaks in the radiation dose map, and in the worst case, they can make the robot to get stuck and not complete the disinfection process. To tackle this problem, in this work we propose a preventive deadlock processing algorithm (PDPA) and an escape route generator algorithm (ERGA). Simulation results show how the application of PDPA and the ERGA allow to complete complex maps in an efficient way where the application of GBNN is not enough. Indeed, a 58% more of covered surface is observed. Furthermore, two different motion strategies have been compared: boustrophedon and spiral motion, to check its influence on the performance of the robot navigation
