Power improvement of wind turbine based on maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller / Zulina Zulkifeli

This thesis presents a modern controller for simulation of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique using boost converter for wind energy conversion system. It uses output voltage as feedback to regulate its output voltage to a desired value without steady state oscillations with the aid of Matlab ® & Simulink ® simulationc software. The methodology is proposed by using modern controller for application of boost DC-DC converter system. It is implemented on the boost converter system by applying state space method. Modern controllers are simulated in closed loop system which consists of state feedback controller, optimal controller, stae feeedback with feed foward controller and integral controller. These modern controllers are simulated to analyze transient responseand percentage of overshoot form boost converter output voltage. If the output system is observable, a full state observer can be implemented. All controllers are compared, which from this work it is proof that state feedback controller at Poles 250 is the best controller, whereby produces less error it is 0.002V error

Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Engineering Systems Division, Technology and Policy Program, 2004.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 100-101).Unsustainable transportation systems have been the cause of many problems facing urban areas around the world. Lack of regard for sustainable development considerations by those responsible for planning and implementing transportation systems has caused unhealthy air quality, noise pollution, traffic congestion, loss of green spaces and biodiversity, disruption of neighborhoods, equity problems, resource use etc. Many factors could potentially cause unsustainable transportation systems to persist. Transportation planning and decision-making is crucial in determining the structure and operation of transportation systems and hence also its sustainability. This thesis explores the idea of transportation planning institutions with the capability to design and implement sustainable transportation systems and how these institutions can be developed. The Regional Strategic Transportation Planning/CLIOS Process and Regional Planning Architecture Protocol were combined to form a Regional Planning Architecture Strategic Design Framework. To illustrate the use of the framework, it was applied in developing a RPA for planning a sustainable APTS-enabled regional multimodal public transportation system for the rapidly developing Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan Region in Malaysia.by Zulina Zakaria.S.M

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

A review of modest fashion perspectives in the Malaysian fashion industry / Zulina Kamarulzaman and Nazlina Shaari

Modest fashion has become popular over the last decade and is promoted as the latest dressing style. Modest fashion is usually mistaken for Islamic wear, specifically in the Malaysian fashion industry. Malaysians' acceptance of the Islamic lifestyle started long ago, with the continuous adaptation of multiculturalism. This paper aims to determine modest fashion in the context of the Malaysian fashion industry. A systematic review of the published articles and literature was conducted to outline the concept of modest fashion and the relevant issues in modest fashion perspectives. The study identified five innovative components in its conceptual framework: beliefs, fashion expertise, management of business relationships (BRM), fashion culture, and social media influencers originating from modest fashion. The conceptual framework also included related keywords from past research. The findings in this study indicated a positive relationship between modest fashion and faith practices in Islam. The results implied a need for future research to study the acceptance of modest fashion as a dressing style among non-Muslim consumers in Western countries. This paper concludes that modest fashion has evolved into one of the mainstream fashion lines in the fashion world and is no longer seen as a conservative style of fashion

The achievements of Malaysian fashion designers have been fraught with success and failure. The intense competition in the fashion industry is one of the main obstacles for fashion designers who decide to venture into fashion entrepreneurship. This study seeks to understand what additional skills are necessary and how to face the challenges they encounter. The respondents in this study were fashion design entrepreneurs who participated in group discussions, and fashion experts who were interviewed. Throughout the entirety of the process of data collecting, a collection of standardised questionnaires was utilised in focus group discussions. As a consequence of the findings of the study, they are faced with the challenge of overcoming a variety of deficiencies, some of which include inadequate business management, inadequate financial management, inadequate management of human resources, and other deficiencies. Based on the findings, fashion experts who participated in this study have provided advice. As a result, this study can provide fashion design entrepreneurs with preventative business continuity and sustainability measures

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
