Taxonomic Revision of Taiwan Sciaenidae with a Note on Seasonal Variation along Yun-Lin Coast
Sciaenids are one of the popular food fishes in Taiwan. Due to their similar appearance, the identification of some genera in the family was inconsistent in previous literatures. A taxonomic revision and identification key were made through comparative morphology of both adult and juvenile fishes. Based on 1300 specimens examined from museum collections and samples from fishery trawls and local markets, a total of 23 species belonging to 12 genera were recorded in Taiwan. Two misidentified species, Johnius macrorhynus and J. dussumieri were excluded and two species, J. borneensis and J. trewavasae, were added to the Taiwan record. One common Johnius species has not been described previously. Juvenile Sciaenid sampled from Yun Lin coast were identified to five genera and nine species. Among them, J. amblycephalus are mostly caught in summer and the Pennahia pawak are more frequently in early autumn. Apparently, Yun Lin coast is a nursery grounds for juvenile Sciaenidae with temporal variations

대향류 연소 해석을 통한 고체연료의 후퇴율 및 연소 특성 예측에 관한 연구
This study investigates the regression rate and combustion characteristics of solid fuel using a simple one-dimensional counterflow diffusion flame analysis. A coupled computational framework was developed by integrating gas-phase and condensed-phase reaction models. Simulation results were validated using regression rates from counterflow combustion experiments. Furthermore, the effects of oxygen concentration, ambient pressure, and oxidizer momentum flux on the combustion behaviors of solid fuel were systematically examined. The predicted regression rates showed good agreement with experimental data across the range of conditions tested in this study, although discrepancies were observed at lower pressures. An increase in oxygen concentration, ambient pressure, and oxidizer momentum flux was found to enhance the regression rate. In particular, the increase in momentum flux and pressure shifts the peak temperature location closer to the fuel surface. This proximity intensifies heat feedback to the solid surface, thereby accelerating the pyrolysis process and increasing the regression rate. Furthermore, the correlation analysis identified the oxygen mass fraction as the most influential of the three examined parameters affecting the regression rate. These findings offer fundamental insight into the pyrolysis and combustion of solid fuel relevant to air-breathing solid fuel propulsion systems.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Applying a Multiple Screening Program Aided by a Guideline-driven Computerized Decision Support System—A Pilot Experience in Yun-Lin, Taiwan
Background/purposeAlthough preventive tools decrease morbidity and mortality and promote health, these services are often underutilized. The purpose of this study was to create a workflow for an outpatient setting that incorporated a computerized decision support system to implement preventive recommendations as well as to evaluate its impacts on facilitating preventive care.MethodsSubjects visiting National Taiwan University Hospital Yun-Lin Branch were evaluated by a questionnaire, which contained items to trigger production rules to check the eligibility of screening for high coronary risk, diabetes mellitus, lipid disorder, hypertension, obesity, tobacco use, depression, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and osteoporosis. Patients were given health information about the diseases they were at risk for and the merits of preventive measures, scheduled for a clinic visit, and arranged to have access to screening tools. Physicians were prompted with clinical reminders on the encounter. The overall effectiveness of 11 components in this screening program was evaluated in terms of expected life saving. The cost-effectiveness ratio was represented in US dollars per life-year saved.ResultsA total of 283 men and 199 women were identified to need one to six preventive interventions during a 2-month period. Preventive consultation was arranged and screening tools were performed. It was estimated that 412-1014 subjects would be needed to attend the program so as to save one life. The cost-effectiveness ratio ranged from US40,000 per life-year saved.ConclusionA computer-aided screening program driven by the US Preventive Services Task Force recommendations has been successfully implemented in Yun-Lin, Taiwan, and provided useful information about local epidemiology and implications for future health policy making. Return Flow, Conjunctive Use, and Water Use Efficiency- The Case of Yun-Lin Area
Because of economic and population growth, urbanization, water pollution, climate change, and new water supplies have been very difficult to develop, water resource has become increasingly scarce in relation to the demands placed upon it. How to use water efficiently has therefore become a very important contemporary issue. This research proposes to study the water allocation and use efficiency among various water-using sectors by taking advantage of the empirical data from Yun-Lin area (which is located at the southern part of the Chou-Shui River). To achieve the goal of water use efficiency, we must take return flows into consideration as water is recyclable. In addition, because the groundwater storage at the alluvial cone of the Chou-Shui River is abundant, a conjunctive use of surface water and groundwater is the traditional type of water use in this area. However, the water is not used sustainably. The over extraction of groundwater has resulted in severe land subsidence problem. This research will build a theoretical optimization model to analyze water use efficiency, which emphasizes the characteristics of return flow and conjunctive use. Then I will use the data from Yun-Lin to do simulations with this model for different scenarios.行政院國家科學委員
