    The Impact of Field Data Capturing Technologies on Automated Construction Project Progress Monitoring

    AbstractAccurate and timely information of construction project progress in a regular repeated basis is one of the critical stages of construction management. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of field data capturing technologies (FDCT), in combination with building information modelling (BIM) on automated construction project progress monitoring (ACPPM). The research is based on a survey of contracting and engineering consulting firms operating in the Middle East, Mid-Asia, Europe, North America, and Far East. Based on an evaluation of the findings, 3D Laser Scanning (LS), Image-based, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies in combination with BIM were found as the most used technologies for ACPPM. At the end, a conceptual framework is illustrated and managerial implications are highlighted with a sample statement focusing on requirements, processes and benefits. The study confirms the importance of using BIM-based FDCT in enhancing ACPPM factors performance. It also highlights the need for further exploration of the role of the BIM-based FDCT in improving ACPPM

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Bu özellikler uygulamalardaki entegrasyona dayanan büyük miktarda veri alışverişi ve bilgi paylaşımı ihtiyacını ortaya çıkarmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, yapı üretim sürecinin her aşamasını kapsayan ve katılımcılar arasındaki iletişim kopukluğunu sanal ortamda ortadan kaldıran “Çoklu-proje Ortamında Web-tabanlı Bütünleşik Yapım Yönetim Sistemi Modeli” geliştirilmiştir. Önerilen sistem ile; yönetim kademelerine güncel, doğru ve hızlı veri akışı sağlama, ayrık ortamlardan bilgiye kolay ve güvenli bir şekilde erişme ve çoklu-proje ortamında etkin süreç yönetimi hedeflenmiştir. Sistemde dinamik bir ortam sağlanabilmesi için kullanılan bağımsız iş paketlerinin (iş programı, hakediş programı gibi) çeşitlenebilmesi ve yaratılan arayüzlerle web ortamında etkin rapor seçeneklerini yaratılabilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Geliştirilen bu modelde örnek olay olarak İTÜ Kampüs İnşaatları için tasarlanan yönetim bilişim sisteminin kurgusu anlatılmıştır. Yapılandırılan bu sistemin, Türk İnşaat Sektörüne ve İTÜ Kampüslerindeki bina projelerinin her aşamasındaki proje yönetimine sağladığı katkılar ve Ülkemizde Yapı İşleri Teknik Dairelerinin yeniden yapılandırılması çerçevesinde kullanılabilecek model tartışılmıştır.The construction process involves a large number of participants, various forms of project organisation, and the use of numerous different types of computer applications. These characteristics bring forth the need for intensive data exchange and information sharing based on the integration of various applications. In this study, a “Web-based Integrated Construction Management System Model in Multi-project Environment” was developed involving all the phases of construction process to eliminate the lack of coordination and communication between the participants in virtual environment. With the proposed system, it was aimed to provide actual, accurate and quick data-flow to the executive management, easy but secure access to the information and to have an effective process management in a multi-project environment. The system formulates a process for collecting data from various software packages, accumulating this data in a multi-project environment, and formatting this data to create integrated reports. In the developed model, the structure of the Management Information System designed for the ITU Campus Construction Projects was described as a case study. The study concludes with a discussion how the established system contributes to the Turkish Construction Industry and project management of buildings involving all processes at ITU Campus and re-structuring the framework of the model to be developed for the Construction Works Departments in our country.DoktoraPh

It focuses on the potential, requirements and implementation of CIoT paradigm to buildings, Artificial Intelligence techniques, reasoning, and Augmented Reality/Mixed Reality in cognitive building concepts, the concept of cognitive smart cities in its complexity, heterogeneity, and scope, and the challenge of utilizing the big data generated by smart cities from a machine learning perspective.
