Indignant Reading
In 1871, R. H. Hutton criticized George Eliot for "unfairly running down one of her own characters": Middlemarch's Rosamond Vincy. Hutton blamed Eliot for being cruel to her own creation and used his role as a reader and a critic to lodge a public complaint on Rosamond's behalf. Indignant Reading identifies this response--dissatisfaction and even anger with an author for his/her perceived mistreatment of a fictional character--as a common occasion for literary criticism in the nineteenth century. The indignant readings found in Victorian reviews, letters, and prefaces advance conceptions of plot, characterization, and fictionality distinct from those offered in modern narratological criticism or historicist accounts of Victorian novel practice or literary criticism. Rather than abstracting the aesthetic and ethical concerns from the emotional terms common to Victorian criticism, I see these concerns emerging in conjunction with serious emotional demands and significant, if sometimes inchoate, beliefs about the "rights" of fictional characters. In my discussion of indignation resulting from crimes of plot, I argue that insufficiently
motivated events were interpreted by Victorian critics and readers as arising from the author rather than from the text. Discussions of crimes of characterization reveal an implicit tri-partite model of fictional character, in which authors might be incorrect about their own characters as well as cruel toward them. This manner of thinking about authorial accuracy and justice implies, I argue, a conception of fictionality that de-emphasizes the distinction between fiction and non-fiction, modeling the author’s relationship to his fiction on that of the historian to his text. This approach to fiction changes, however, in the twentieth century, alongside restrictive attitudes about the role of affect in performing literary criticism. While indignant reading re-enters the academy as one type of feminist criticism, which emphasizes the ethical at the expense of the affective, indignation in its most emotional form has become a primary mode of expression for fan communities

ICESat-2 Meltwater Depth Estimates: Application to Surface Melt on Amery Ice Shelf, East Antarctica
Surface melting occurs during summer on the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets, but the volume of stored surface meltwater has been difficult to quantify due to a lack of accurate depth estimates. NASA's ICESat-2 laser altimeter brings a new capability: photons penetrate water and are reflected from both the water and the underlying ice; the difference provides a depth estimate. ICESat-2 sampled Amery Ice Shelf on January 2, 2019 and showed double returns from surface depressions, indicating meltwater. For four melt features, we compared depth estimates from eight algorithms: six based on ICESat-2 and two from coincident Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 imagery. All algorithms successfully identified surface water at the same locations. Algorithms based on ICESat-2 produced the most accurate depths; the image-based algorithms underestimated depths (by 30%–70%). This implies that ICESat-2 depths can be used to tune image-based algorithms, moving us closer to quantifying stored meltwater volumes across Antarctica and Greenland.Physical and Space Geodes
AbstractCoronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is an infectious disease, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus which affects the respiratory system in the human body and can result in death. Hundreds of millions of cases have been reported in different countries and regions. Since March 2020 the Indonesian government has declared Covid-19 a national disaster. "Asymptomatic" and "mild" Covid-19 patients are required to self-isolate at home and monitored by health workers by telephone. Due to the limited number of health workers and facilities and infrastructure. The author made a study that aims to assist health workers in monitoring Covid-19 patients who are self-isolating at home. By using the waterfall method, an application "Covid-19 Patient Daily Journal Application for Self-Isolation Monitoring (PISOM)" was produced. This application is tested with Usability Testing using the System Usability Scale (SUS) method, assessment result for this application is at Grade B, in this case the PISOM application can be used as a supporting tool to help health workers monitor Covid-19 patients who are self-isolating at home
Folate and Synthetic Folic Acid Content in Canadian Fortified Foods Two Decades After Mandatory Fortification
In 1998, Health Canada mandated folic acid fortification of white flour and enriched grain products to prevent neural tube defects. At the time, neither the Canadian Nutrient File (CNF) nor product labels reflected the actual folate content of foods. We aimed to assess if 20 years post-fortification, the CNF values for total folate and synthetic folic acid accurately reflect amounts determined by direct analysis. Using the 2001 Food Expenditure Survey and ACNielsen Company data, we identified 10 to 15 of the most purchased fortified foods across 7 food categories in Canada. Total folate concentrations were determined by tri-enzyme digestion and microbial assay. Folic acid concentrations were determined using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Except for “cooked pastas”, mean total folate content of foods (n=89) were significantly higher than CNF values across categories (pThe presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of Islamic branding, personal selling, and product quality on the purchase of rabbani products in Jambi City. The method used by the author in this research is a quantitative approach, and uses a type of descriptive research. The location of this research was conducted on consumers of rabbani products in the city of Jambi. The population of this study were all consumers of rabbani in the city of Jambi. The research used the slovin formula. simplify calculations and get more accurate data. This study uses a probability sampling technique, which is a sampling technique that provides each element (member) of the basic population with the same opportunity to be selected as a member of the sample. In this case, a simple random sampling technique was used, namely taking random sample members from the population, regardless of the existing population strata. The data obtained by the researcher was then processed using the SPSS application tool. Based on the results of the study, there is an influence between Islamic Branding, Personal Selling and Product Quality on the Purchase Decision of Rabbani Products.
