Perception of Mangrove Social-Ecological System Governance in Southeastern Cuba
This study examined local communities' perceptions of mangroves in coastal southeastern Cuba. A variety of methods were employed, including mixed and structured questionnaire surveys, interviews with key informants, and document reviews. Data were gathered from 334 respondents living in communities adjacent to four mangrove social-ecological systems (SESs). The analysis focused on five variables: community use of mangrove resources, ecosystem services, threats to the ecosystem, management activities, and social-ecological relationships. To qualitatively assess the influence of social-ecological relationships and governance, a matrix was created based on anthropogenic activities identified by respondents and their perceptions of ecosystem services. A Spearman's rank correlation analysis was performed between demographic variables and identified mangrove uses. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the frequency of mangrove uses and the perception of ecosystem services among the studied areas. The results indicate that, while local people recognise the uses and ecosystem services of mangroves, they do not rely on them for their livelihoods. Perceptions of ecosystem services vary significantly depending on the occupation of the respondents and the locality. They also showed moderate to full awareness of management responsibilities and activities at each site. The most commonly identified threats were climate change, drought, and deforestation. Three types of social-ecological relationships were identified based on the characteristics of the communities, their economic activities, and their impacts on the mangroves: urban-industrial, rural-agricultural, and rural-agricultural/tourism. Based on the results, recommendations are made for ecosystem governance in the southeast of Cuba.Funding:

Finally, some of his works are discussed under the scope of the classification of “La edad del Tiempo” to emphasize the author’s taste for fantastic literature and the way he treated social issues that go against equity and freedom
Undergraduate occupational therapy students' engagement in qualitative research: identifying research problems and questions through reflection while in a community fieldwork setting.
As part of the occupational therapy undergraduate programme at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), students carry out group research projects while in their fieldwork placements. The purpose of the Research module is to introduce them to basic qualitative research methods. Following the progress of a group of students in a community fieldwork setting as an example, this article is a commentary on how they use the steps of the community process as a guideline to identify possible research questions. The author will highlight the process that students follow to refine their research questions, the support they require to identify priority problems, the barriers that students face while conducting research in fieldwork, and the positive outcomes for students and the community. In conclusion the community process provided the students with a theoretical guideline, specifically the needs assessment and analysis steps of the process in order for them to conceptualise a research question within a community fieldwork setting.

Abstract : The Fontamara novel, by Italian writer Ignazio Silone (1900-1978), is first published in 1933, by Verlag Oprecht und Helbling from Zurich, with a translation into German by Nettie Sutro. For political and ideological reasons, the text is prevented from circulating officially inside the Italian literary system, during the years of fascism. The author himself experiences a period of exile and cannot return to Italy, where he would be arrested by the fascist police, under the accusation of being a subversive element. In Brazil, the novel is translated by Aristides Lobo and published by Cultura Política in 1935, two years after its first edition. While considering the political tensions and social and economic changes taking place in Brazil in the 30s, and the role of translated literature within a culture, this study investigates the main motivations that lead to the publication of Fontamara in 1935, in Brazil. These reflections are made from the perspective of translation as rewriting, a conjecture proposed among other theorists by André Lefevere (2007), who deals with the role of rewriting within a literary system. The complex process of translation involves both the figure of the translator (rewriter ), as a mediator, as well as that of other agents who determine what kind of text may or may not circulate among the reading public, according to a scheme that Lefevere calls the patronage system

How should non-emergency EMS presentations be managed? A thematic analysis of politicians’, policymakers’, clinicians’ and consumers’ viewpoints
Objective In 2023, Australian government emergency medical services (EMS) responded to over 4 million consumers, of which over 56% were not classified as an ‘emergency’, at the cost of AU$5.5 billion. We explored the viewpoints of politicians, policymakers, clinicians and consumers on how these non-emergency requests should be managed.Design A realist framework was adopted; a multidisciplinary team (including paramedicine, medicine and nursing) was formed; data were collected via semistructured focus groups or interviews, and thematic analysis was performed.Setting and participants 56 participants were selected purposefully and via open advertisement: national and state parliamentarians (n=3); government heads of healthcare disciplines (n=3); government policymakers (n=5); industry policymakers in emergency medicine, general practice and paramedicine (n=6); EMS chief executive officers, medical directors and managers (n=7); academics (n=8), frontline clinicians in medicine, nursing and paramedicine (n=8); and consumers (n=16).Results Three themes emerged: first, the reality of the EMS workload (theme titled ‘facing reality’); second, perceptions of what direction policy should take to manage this (‘no silver bullet’) and finally, what the future role of EMS in society should be (‘finding the right space’). Participants provided 16 policy suggestions, of which 10 were widely supported: increasing public health literacy, removing the Medical Priority Dispatch System, supporting multidisciplinary teams, increasing 24-hour virtual emergency departments, revising undergraduate paramedic university education to reflect the reality of the contemporary role, increasing use of management plans for frequent consumers, better paramedic integration with the healthcare system, empowering callers by providing estimated wait times, reducing ineffective media campaigns to ‘save EMS for emergencies’ and EMS moving away from hospital referrals and towards community care. Conclusions There is a need to establish consensus on the role of EMS within society and, particularly, on whether the scope should continue expanding beyond emergency care. This research reports 16 possible ideas, each of which may warrant consideration, and maps them onto the standard patient journey
