MINO prevents LTP impairment during sepsis
No full textSepsis-associated encephalopathy is a major complication during sepsis, and an effective treatment remains unknown. Although minocycline (MINO) has neuroprotective effects and is an attractive candidate for treating sepsis-associated encephalopathy, the effect of MINO on synaptic plasticity during sepsis is still unclear. In the present study, we investigated the effects of MINO on long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampus in a cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) mouse model. We divided mice into four groups; sham + vehicle, sham + MINO (60 mg/kg, i.p. for 3 consecutive days before slice preparation), CLP + vehicle, and CLP + MINO. We tested LTP in the CA1 region of the hippocampus, using slices taken 24 h after surgery. Because MINO is also anti-inflammatory, LTP was analyzed following 30 min of IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) perfusion. The endotoxin level in the blood was increased at 24 h after CLP operations regardless of MINO administrations, and LTP in the CLP + vehicle group mice was severely impaired (P < 0.05). High doses of MINO prevented the LTP impairment during sepsis in the CLP + MINO group. Interleukin (IL)-1ra administration ameliorated LTP impairment only in the CLP + vehicle group (P < 0.05); it had no additional effects on LTP in the CLP + MINO group. In conclusion, we have provided the first evidence that MINO prevents impaired LTP related to sepsis-induced encephalopathy in the mouse hippocampus, and that mechanisms associated with IL-1 receptor activity may be involved

Junto con las perforaciones y las incrustaciones, los tatuajes eran comunes entre aztecas, mayas, amazónicos, maorís y otros grupos de las islas del Pacífico; sin embargo, poco a poco perdió su sentido identitario y se tornó negativo. Actualmente, ha recobrado su valor artístico. En el siguiente texto, el afamado tatuador Eduardo Betancourt, mejor conocido como Mino, nos habla acerca de su profesión y sus experiencias como pionero de este arte en la ciudad de Toluca.
The tattoo has had diverse cultural connotations in multiple societies. Along with piercings and inlays, tattoos were common among Aztecs, Mayans, Amazonians, Maoris and other Pacific Island groups; however, it gradually lost its identity sense and became negative. Today, it has regained its artistic value. Modulation of the gravitational waveform by the effect of radiation reaction
No full textWhen we calculate gravitational waveforms from extreme-mass-ratio inspirals by metric perturbation, it is a common strategy to use the adiabatic approximation. Under that approximation, we first calculate the linear metric perturbation induced by geodesics orbiting a black hole, then we calculate the adiabatic evolution of the parameters of geodesics due to the radiation reaction effect through the calculation of the self-force. This procedure is considered to be reasonable, however, there is no direct proof that it can actually produce the correct waveform we would observe. In this paper, we study the formal expression of the second order metric perturbation and show that it can be expressed as the linear metric perturbation modulated by the adiabatic evolution of the geodesic. This evidence supports the assumption that the adiabatic approximation can produce the correct waveform, and that the adiabatic expansion we propose in Ref. [Y. Mino, Prog. Theor. Phys. 115, 43 (2006); Y. Mino, Prog. Theor. Phys. 113, 733 (2005); Y. Mino and R. Price (unpublished).] is an appropriate perturbation expansion for studying the radiation reaction effect on the gravitational waveform

No full textResumenLa importancia de establecer el aporte y la vigencia de las teorías de las organizaciones como punto de partida para la toma de decisiones sobre los objetivos estratégicos de las organizaciones que van desde la productividad y la paz social pasando por formas de organización dadas por asociaciones entre empresas, llevan a interrogantes sobre el empleo en las empresas y sus ventajas, los recursos de sostenimiento y la integración de unas u otras actividades.Para responder al problema planteado, la autora del presente escrito aborda en primera instancia los aspectos generales y relevantes de las teorías de organización precedentes de las teorías de la contractualización. Posteriormente se definen los postulados centrales de las teorías de la contractualización, y con estos se muestra cómo se eclipsaron algunas partes de las teorías precedentes a las de contractualización. Para tal efecto se toman en consideración como base del desarrollo del presente escrito, los análisis presentados por Jean Michel Plane en su libro Théorie des organisations (2000) y el artículo de la revista Mexicana de Sociología: Contribución a la crítica de la teoría clásica de la organización de Mino Vianello.Se trata de una reflexión teórica en la que se revisan diversos postulados de la teoría de las organizaciones y se observa como en cada uno de ellos, la corriente de contractualización ofrece alternativas que pueden opacar aspectos con sus afirmaciones.AbstractIt is important to establish what the rapport is and the actuality of the organizational theories, like the point of departure for taking decisions about the organizational strategic goals, since the productivity to the social peace, going by the organizational forms, that the associations between companies gives. Those ask questions about the companies do with the theories and what are their advantage, the resources and the integration of the activities.For asking the question, the author of these write try in the first instance with the general and relevant theories´ aspects, precedents of the contra actualization theories. Mino-bimaadiziwin: ReIndigenizing through Land-based Learning
No full textIn response to the Truth and Reconciliation’s 62nd and 63rd Calls to Action, the author takes a servant leadership approach to embedding Indigenous knowledge to the K-12 classrooms in Ontario with a focus on reIndigenizing through land-based learning. Student well-being and achievement data show Indigenous students in both provincial and Indigenous community schools are below that of their non-Indigenous peers, and the impact of residential schools continues in Treaty 3 territory is an intergenerational crisis that demands immediate attention and shift for educational leadership. As a Métis scholarly practitioner, the author centres Indigenous research and personal positionality in creating a change implementation plan which focuses on learning from, on, and with the land as a daily act of reconciliation. The traditional medicine wheel is used throughout the Dissertation-in-Practice to align holistic, lifelong learning with change leadership, monitoring, evaluation, and disrupting the status quo. Culturally responsive pedagogy is explored through research and practical examples of shifting practice, policy, and ontological perspectives to outline practical solutions for complex issues. The work is centred on mino-bimaadiizin, the Anishinaabek teaching of leading a good life

No full textMuchos de los episodios más tempranos de caza de brujas en Europa tuvieron lugar en la frontera entre Francia y Alemania, en una zona que se extendía desde lo que actualmente es Suiza occidental, el noroeste de Italia y el Delfinado francés, hasta Artois, Flandes y los Países Bajos meridionales.1 Se trata de territorios que con frecuencia estaban divididos políticamente pero también en términos culturales y lingüísticos, circunstancia que pudo haber sido un factor de promoción de los procesos por brujería en dichas regiones.
