Mapping La Valette Landslide (French Alps) displacement Using High Resolution SAR Image Correlation

    No full text
http://www.livingplanet2013.org/abstracts/843509.htmIn the presented study, we apply the image correlation technique to multi-mode multi-temporal High-Resolution SAR data from TerraSAR-X. Image correlation technique has the advantage of providing displacement maps in two directions, the Line of Sight direction (LOS) and the Azimuth direction. These two information, derived from the two modes of data acquisition (ascending and descending), can be combined routinely to infer the 3 dimensional surface displacement field at different epochs yielding a 4-dimensional displacement field. A methodology is proposed for defining the displacement field at the La Valette large landslide (South French Alps) using TerraSAR-X images acquired in 2010. Our results show the internal dynamics of La Valette landslide including short spatial wavelength details

A second project for the décoration of the Faculty of Pharmacy in Paris by Lucien Coutaud. This 1941 project consisted of four scenes which the author describes and reproduces : « Harvest and incineration of kelp. Iodine », « Harvest and transport of an exotic plant », « Nicolas Houel planting the first botanical garden, 16 September 1588 » and « Injecting a dog with anesthesia. »Valette Simonne. International audienceWe apply an image correlation technique to multi-orbit and multi-temporal High-Resolution (HR) SAR data. Image correlation technique has the advantage of providing displacement maps in two directions; e.g. the Line of Sight direction (LoS) and the Azimuth direction. This information, derived from the two modes of data acquisition (ascending and descending), can be combined routinely to infer the three dimensional surface displacement field at different epochs. In this study, a methodology is developed to characterize the displacement pattern of the large La Valette landslide (South French Alps) using TerraSAR-X images acquired in 2010. The results allow mapping the dynamics of different units of the La Valette landslide at high spatial resolution. The study demonstrates the potential of this new application of High Resolution SAR image correlation technique for landslide ground surface deformation monitoring

Successful use of extracorporeal life support after double traumatic tracheobronchial injury in a patient with severe acute asthma.

We report the case of an asthmatic patient with blunt trachea and left main bronchus injuries who developed acute severe asthma after surgical repair. Despite medical treatment and ventilatory support, asthma persisted with high airway pressures and severe respiratory acidosis. We proposed venovenous extracorporeal life support for CO(2) removal which allowed arterial blood gas normalization and airway pressures decrease. Extracorporeal life support was removed on day five after medical treatment of acute severe asthma. So we report the successful use of extracorporeal life support for operated double blunt tracheobronchial injury with acute severe asthma

The stable rank of Z[x]\mathbb{Z}[x] is 33

Grunewald, Mennicke and Vaserstein proved that the Bass stable rank of Z[x]\mathbb{Z}[x], the ring of the univariate polynomials over Z\mathbb{Z}, is 33. This note addresses minor errors found in their proof. Using their method, we show in addition that the unimodular row (3,x+1,x2+16)(3, x + 1, x^2 + 16) is not stable.Comment: 9 pages, no figure. This new version integrates suggestions from Pace Nielsen, Alain Valette and Yves Cornulier. Proposition B displays now a simpler unstable unimodular ro

    The Smarandache Function

    No full text
The function named in the title of this book is originated from the exiled Romanian mathematician Florentin Smarandache, who has significant contributions not only in mathematics, but also in literature. The Smarandache function, say S, is a numerical function defined such that for every positive integer n, its image S(n) is the smallest positive integer whose factorial is divisible by n

Spectra of Graphs and the Spectral Criterion for Property (T)

For a finite connected graph XX, we consider the graph RXRX obtained from XX by associating a new vertex to every edge of XX and joining by edges the extremities of each edge of XX to the corresponding new vertex. We express the spectrum of the Laplace operator on RXRX as a function of the corresponding spectrum on XX. As a corollary, we show that XX is a complete graph if and only if \lambda_1(RX)>\frac{1}{2}. We give a re-interpretation of the correspondence XRXX\mapsto RX in terms of the right-angled Coxeter group defined by XX
