In her analysis of Spero’s work from the 1950s to the beginning of the 21st century, Déry suggests the artist is a representative of the first generation of feminist artists. The author also outlines the exhibition theme of the “spoken image,” and draws attention to how Spero’s socially engaged practice has transformed contemporary art. Emphasis is placed on the following aspects of the artist’s work: compositional structure, figurative vocabulary, and relationships between text/image. Includes a brief text by N. Kay Boyle and Richard Wright, 1948-1960: A “Friendship Forever” in “a difficult time”

    No full text
This article offers a brief examination of the friendship of Kay Boyle and Richard Wright, from 1948, when they first met in Paris, till Wright’s death in 1960. The lives and activist careers of the two writers—who both fought against racial prejudices and for more social justice in the United States—often intersected, as in 1937, for instance, when they became involved with Nancy Cunard in the defense of the “Scottsboro Boys.” In the 1950s, when they were both suspected to be Communist sympathizers, Boyle and Wright—who kept in touch thanks to the editor Edward Aswell— never failed in supporting each other

Reconstruindo o Feminismo De Segunda Geração: Aproximações Entre Nancy Fraser e Axel Honneth

    No full text
This article aims to analyze the proximity between the theories of Axel Honneth and Nancy Fraser, considering not only the famous discussion redistribution versus recognition. The main focus will lie on Nancy Frasers "Feminism, Capitalism and the cunning of history", where the author asserts its claim to approach the deepest foundations of Honneths thought in order to rebuild the claims of so-called second-wave feminism. At first, the bases of Honneth s thought will be investigated - which ultimately are the bases of the critical tradition. Subsequently, from the analysis of the concepts "blockade" and "reconstruction", the main features of the second generation feminism will be examined, well as the causes of its failure and the prospects for a post-neoliberal feminist theory.O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a proximidade entre as teorias de Axel Honneth e Nancy Fraser, sem se prender, contudo, à conhecida discussão sobre redistribuição versus reconhecimento.

Jean-Luc Nancy, one of the most influential philosophers of today, is part of a group to some extent antagonistic. Marked by Heidegger's phenomenology, for a certain Hegelianism and the grounds of literary criticism of Maurice Blanchot, Nancy is coming from philosophers like Derrida and Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe. He teaches philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy, Science of Language and Communication at the University of Strasbourg. Author of several works, his thoughts are evoked by quotations from scholarly works in many different areas. In this study, without attempting to exhaust the subject, we will discuss art, poetry and literature in light of the thought of Nancy, also featuring, when needed, the help of other established names. Print journal holdings in two Canadian consortial projects

    No full text
The Canadian university library members of two consortial e-journal arrangements were surveyed to determine how many of the corresponding print journals had been cancelled as a result of participation in the online packages. The survey results indicated that the number of current print subscriptions held by the libraries had notably decreased. This paper discusses this loss of print and presents two options, with examples, for dealing with the archiving of print journals, Distributed Print Archiving and Back-up Repositories. The question of whether anything really needs to be done is also addressed
