Neurobehavioral assessment of mice following repeated oral exposures to domoic acid during prenatal development
Domoic acid (DA) is an algal toxin which has been associated with significant neurotoxicity in humans, non-human primates, rodents, and marine mammals. Developmental exposure to DA is believed to result in neurotoxicity that may persist into adulthood. DA is produced by harmful algal blooms of Pseudo-nitzschia, raising concerns about the consumption of contaminated seafood. We evaluated oral exposures to DA during pregnancy in mice. Doses of 0 (vehicle), 1 or 3 mg/kg/d of DA were administered by gavage to C57BL/6J mice on gestational days 10 to 17. The offspring were tested for persistent neurobehavioral consequences during early development, adolescence and adulthood. Neurobehavioral tests revealed both dose- and gender-related differences in several neurobehavioral measures, including motor coordination in the rotarod test, behavior in the elevated plus maze, circadian patterns of activity in Phenotyper cages, gait as assessed in the Catwalk, and exploratory activity in the Morris water maze. This study demonstrated significant gender-specific and persistent neurobehavioral effects of repeated prenatal oral exposures to DA at low-dose levels that did not induce toxicity in dams
The project of this thesis deals with the activation of the Maarjamõisa manor ensemble opposite the University of Tartu clinic, by creating a comprehensive cancer treatment support center, which would give the old manor's main building and stable a new meaning and function, taking into account the surrounding environment.
The goal was to create a support center for cancer patients that would provide them with an environment conducive to treatment and emotional support throughout their long and difficult treatment journey and also after that.
When choosing the location, the author was based on the surrounding environment and the location of hospitals offering cancer treatment. The building had to be located near a hospital offering cancer treatment to provide convenient and convenient solutions for patients. The property of Tartu Maarjamõisa was chosen primarily for its greenery and availability.
The case studies used during the project provided an overview of the facilities and functions needed to support cancer treatment and to facilitate the treatment of people with cancer. Various interesting solutions were the inspiration for the preparation of the thesis of this work.
In the design of the cancer treatment support center, the main focus was on the principles derived from green therapy, which were applied in connecting the existing and new building volumes, forming a green corridor between them and in the center of the center.

I would also like to thank Kristina Aimla- Volkov, assistent director architecture institute of the University of Applied Sciences and Siiri Kutser and Tiina Paeorg, who work at the Rapla hospital and who advised me on this topic during the completion of the thesis
Nature and Education center of Sillamäe
In the framework of this thesis, a Nature and Education Centre was designed for the city of Sillamäe. In addition, the existing seaside promenade was extended and an outdoor area was created around the centre.
The aim of the thesis was to create a nature and education centre that would provide local residents with more educational experiences and leisure opportunities, as well as inviting people to discover and discover more of the city of Sillamäe. The nature and education centre will help to draw attention to the bottlenecks in nature, teach people to love and appreciate the environment around us, and create a greater awareness of the importance of the environment and its impact on our lives.
The location was chosen by the author on the basis of its surrounding environment. As it is a nature centre, it was important for the design of the thesis that the centre should not be located in the centre of the city, but surrounded by diverse nature. At the same time, the location should not be too far from the promenade and should be easily accessible.
The case studies provided the author with a good overview of the features of the nature centre and were an inspiration for this project. The references were examined in terms of their location in the urban environment, the movement between the spaces and the sizes of the spaces. The knowledge gained was applied to the design of the building in this thesis.
The final solution of the thesis went through various different stages. During the design process, a number of different solutions were tried out, and the shape, form and use of the building were repeatedly changed.
The building is compact in shape and has a projecting conservatory as its central feature. The roof has an 8 degree pitch and is topped with a series of flowerbeds that enhance the building's appearance in all seasons. In addition, the Sillamäe promenade has been extended and upgraded so that the Nature and Education Centre is the starting or end point of the promenade, and the promenade and the Nature Centre have been connected so that people can move easily between them.
The load-bearing structure of the building is glulam, using a glulam beam and post system, as well as load-bearing partition and interior walls. The building's conservatory consists of a triple glazing unit and an aluminium frame.
The author of the thesis would like to thank the Sillamäe City Government, Tallinn Botanical Garden and Jaan Mettik, and Tiina Tuulik, a lecturer at Tallinn University of Applied Sciences, who advised on a number of topics during the completion of this thesis. In addition, the author would like to thank his supervisors Kaur Talpsep and Tomomi Hayashi. He would also like to thank Kristina Aimla-Volkov, supervisor of Tallinn University of Technology and Institute of Architecture

Lately, the using of public space becomes more and more popular and interesting. That is why we need more active and functional public spaces. The project is designed according to the existent limitations and norms. Contemporary and modern solution of the designed center including the walking area will contribute to the improvement of living conditions in Lagedi making it more comfortable and functional and this could result in the increasing number of the citizens. Also it will give an additional value and new quality for Lagedi area as well
The adaptive reuse of Soviet architecture and public space renewal in Paide Old town
Autor on valinud lõputöö teemaks – Nõukogude arhitektuuri taaskasutamine ja avaliku ruumi uuendus Paide vanalinnas. Eskiisi tasemel on tehtud Rüütli tn 9 kinnistul paiknevale nõukogudeaegsele endise apteegi laole rekonstrueerimisprojekt, mille kontseptsiooniks on osaliselt säilitada olemasolevad kon-struktsioonid, mis omakorda võrreldes täieliku lammutamisega mõjutab keskkonda vähem. The author has chosen “The adaptive reuse of Soviet architecture and public space renewal in Paide Old town“ for the topic of their final project. A reconstruction project has been created for the warehouse of a former Soviet-style apotheca-ry, situated in the premises of Rüütli tn 9, which conceptualises to partly preserve the already existing structures, which compared to a complete demolition of the building, would be a more environmentally friendly option. The streetline, which is currently existing, will be preserved with the project, but with the partial removal of some of the composition elements, the building will transform to be lighter and the new design would visually fit better into the street view. The existing building space has been divided into two parts. The area has been distributed so the northern side of the building will have a restaurant, a pharmacy, and commercial and busi-ness spaces. The first floor of the South side will have a well-functioning reuse centre purpose and additional commercial spaces. The second story hosts a dance studio and the third floor has an entertainment space, which could be rented out to individuals for the purpose of organising events et cetera. Additionally, the South side of the building has three apartments, which are owned by Paide’s residents. The original space of the building has been partially reduced on the East side of the structure, so the second and third floor have vast balconial spaces, which will preserve the urban greenery that is intrinsic to the town of Paide. The localised indoor cour-tyard provides an opportunity to host various events that are attractive to all age groups. According to the victorying project of the architectural competition for the centre of Paide cal-led “Paas”, the town square will be covered with concrete plates. In this project as well, the planned paths, that connect the town square and the renewed complex situated on Rüütli street that provides a view to the historic educational building, the National High School of Paide in Posti street, have been covered with concrete. The author has set the aim for their thesis to enrich the historical domain of Paide and to en-lighten the town’s milieu, which additionally would advance the economic situation of the town as well. The new functions of the building offer several new occupations, living areas, service and commercial areas, and entertainment to the residents of Paide. The accommodation of a restaurant and commercial spaces in a historical street will offer lots of entertainment for tou-rists. A reconstructed, attractive and safe neighbourhood will increase the value of the town, it will bring the community together whilst carrying out different events, and which furthermore would give a reason for the former young residents to return to their home town and give the new residents a way to grow accustomed to their life in their new home. The author additional-ly holds an opinion that the solution for the town’s centre would increase the quality of life of its current residents, it would offer a pleasant environment for visitors, and in a longer perspec-tive, the drastic change in the town’s layout could play a large role in the upsurge of the amount of the town’s citizens
Nõmme high school sports hall and leisure center directed for disabled youth
Antud lõputöö teemaks on Nõmme Gümnaasiumi spordihoone ja erivajadustega noortele suunatud vaba aja veetmise keskus. Projekt pakub välja ideelahenduse koolihoovle ja uuele hoonele. Töö eesmärgiks on parandada Tallinna Nõmme Gümnaasiumi sportimisvõimalusi, kuna praegusel hetkel koolil puudub endal igasugune võimalus pidada kehalise kasvatuse tunde siseruumis. Samuti on autoril soov parandana koolihoovi üldist kasutamist. Projekti kontseptsiooniks on luua võimalikult looduslähedane hoone. This thesis topic is about Tallinn’s Nõmme highschool sports hall and leisure centre directed for disabled youth. The project gives a conceptual solution for the school yard and for the new building. The purpose of this project is to improve Nõmme Highschool’s sporting opportunities. Due to the current situation it is not possible to practice any physical education class indoors. Also the author of this work wants to improve the area around school building. The second aim is to offer disabled youth new places of leisure, where their needs are taken into account. And overall raise the topic of accessibility of the buildings. The sports hall and leisure centre provides an opportunity to play different ball games, do different things in the trampoline hall and mirror hall and to do ordinary exercises in the gym. There is a large four line swimming pool and therapy pool, steam room and steam bath and two hot tubs in the pool area. The leisure parf of the building offers to do different activities and let’s youth to separate from others into a different room, where they can be alone for a certain period of time. The concept of this project is to merge building into nature. It is expressed with a mound-like building, that is mostly covered with a green roof. Only the gym and pool volume extends from this mound, creating a private area between those volumes. The building is following an energy efficiency and fire proofing regulations
The Riverside Development Project in Pärnu
Käesoleva planeerimisprojekti lahenduse uudsus peitub vahelduvas ning huvitavas elukeskkonnas, kus kõik linnale vajalik on kompaktselt koos. Planeeritavat ala ilmestavad mitmed nüansid, mis eristavad Pärnut teistest jõeäärsetest linnadest. Planeeringu ettepanekus on olulisel kohal jõe eksponeerimine. The given planning project is a thesis for the Faculty of Architectural and Environmental Engineering of TTK University of Applied Sciences, discussing the proposed plan for the riverside area in Pärnu. The area involved is located in the Pärnu city centre, on the southern riverbank seen from the old bridge. The topic for the thesis was chosen based on personal interest and a recommendation from the Pärnu city council to design a detailed plan for the riverside area. The novelty of the given planning project is in the changing and unusual living environment where all necessities and comforts are concentrated in one place. The planned area has many nuances distinguishing Pärnu from other riverside cities. Displaying the river has an important role in the planning proposal. In contrast to the current state, the plan draws a lot more attention to the river and its surroundings: viewing corridors pass through the entire planned area. In addition, improving the infrastructure and livening the old town are of high importance: many of the existing streets are unpopular and inaccessible, so their renewal and alteration would re-connect the old town to the riverside city centre, with the streets leading to the river. The goal is to ease access to the riverbank and focus on developing the “river city” in which the author sees potential to revitalise and improve Pärnu city. However, the features characteristic to Pärnu have been maintained: the buildings are low and do not rise higher than the concert hall and Pärnu Centre. There is emphasis on the greenery distinctive to Pärnu on the streets, balconies and roof terraces. The first priority is to create a comfortable and interesting living environment for the residents
Podróż w poszukiwaniu wiedzy – szkic o misji Iwakury Tomomi
The aim of the paper is to make an initial reconstruction and to undertake a preliminary analysis of the profound expedition of Japanese statesmen to the West (so called The Iwakura Mission) held in the second half of the nineteenth century. The basic purpose of The Iwakura Mission was to search for information and data (especially related to the shape of the legal and political system which would strengthen the Japanese state and society). The Iwakura Mission was a paradigmatic example not only for the next Japanese overseas expeditions, but also for the very similar embassies undertaken in the Middle Kingdom. The Author attempts to work out some preliminary findings necessary to propose more sophisticated set of hypotheses related to the processes of traveling as a source of knowledge on legal and political issues in the future. In this sense, the study of The Iwakura Mission is also a small contribution to developing both a socio-legal theory of inter-cultural transmission of legal knowledge and general theory of copying foreign laws. The aim of the paper is to make an initial reconstruction and to undertake a preliminary analysis of the profound expedition of Japanese statesmen to the West (so called The Iwakura Mission) held in the second half of the nineteenth century. Sindi Gümnaasium and Sports Hall
Käesoleva lõputööga esitati töö autori poolne lahendus Sindi Gümnaasiumi juurdeehitusele ja spordihoonele luues kaasaegne ning innovaatiline õpikeskkond. Erinevate linnaehituslike muudatustega on viimaste aastatega järjepidevalt Sindi linnas elukeskkonda parandatud pakkudes seeläbi rahulikku ja atraktiivset elupaika igas eas elanikule. Olemasolev koolihoone ei paku uudset õpikeskkonda, mis on üheks põhjuseks Sindi linna kooliõpilaste eelistusele omandada haridus mõnes Pärnu linna või ümbritseva piirkonna koolis. Olemasolev Sindi linna keskuses asuv koolihoone koosneb lõputöö käigus säilitatavast peahoonest, juurdeehitusest, muusikakoolist ning spordihoonest.
Projektlahendusega kavandatud juurdeehitus järgib säilitatava peahoone sümmeetrilisust ning ümbruskonna hoonete kuju. Loodud õpikeskkond pakub muutuva kooliruumi põhimõtetele toetudes erinevate funktsioonidega alasid läbi hoonekompleksi. Muusikakooli ruume on võimalik kasutada koolitundide läbi viimiseks.
With this dissertation, the author presented a solution to the extension and sports building of Sindi Gümnaasium, creating a modern and innovative learning environment. With various urban changes, the living environment in Sindi has been constantly improved in recent years, thus providing a peaceful and attractive place to live for people of all ages. The existing school building does not offer a modern learning environment, which is one of the reasons for the preference of school students in the city of Sindi to acquire education in a school in the city of Pärnu or the surrounding area. The existing school building in the center of Sindi consists of a main building, an extension, a music school and a sports building.
The extension planned with the design solution follows the symmetry of the main building to be preserved and the shape of the surrounding buildings. The created learning environment offers areas with different functions through the building complex, based on the principles of a changing school space. The rooms of the music school can be used for school lessons. In addition to the school and sports building in question, work was proposed to activate the school yard surrounding the complex. The work covered the school property and the surrounding green areas. The public space in front of the school was transformed into a pedestrian square, the solution of which restores the axis between the historic school building and the factory.
The project shows one possible solution developed, how to preserve and highlight the historic main building to make a school extension to the changing school space, thus creating a complete architectural solution that takes into account the surrounding environment
Oru grain dryer refurbishment
Antud diplomitöö eesmärk on välja pakkuda uus kasutusvõimalus kolhoosiaegsele tüüpprojekti järgi valminud viljakuivatile Oru külas, Harjumaal. Olemasolev hoone saab arhitektuurse lisa eenduvate klaaskehandite näol. Olemasolev eterniitkate eemaldatakse ja asendatakse uute alumiinium komposiit plaatidega, püüdes edasi anda hoone suurt ja ühtlast mahtu. Uute kasutusvõimalustena pakub töö välja aktiivse vaba aja veetmise keskuse koos akrobaatika kooli ning renditavate äri-, kunsti- ja kontoripindadega. Planeeritav olukord toob hoonesse kokku palju erineva valdkonna- ja vanusega inimesi. Oru küla on viimastel aastatel rahvaarvulult pigem kasvanud, kui kahanenud ja uus moodne kompleks, äratab kindlasti uut tähelepanu ka kaugemal olijates. The vision of the current thesis is to provide new functions to a Soviet-time grain dryer, which was built by a type project to Oru village, Harju county. The building is still being used for it’s original puprose whoever it no longer meets the higher standards therefor the future is unclear. As the building has exciting and significant structure, the author believes it should be preserved and exhibited. People are very welcome to start paying attention again to other similar rather large facilites left behind by faded agriculture industries. To the current structure one of the main architectural add-ons will be protruded glass bodies. Existing fiber cement cladding will be replaced by aluminium composite panels to achieve the homogeneous volume. With the thesis new rental spaces for businesesses, art and offices are foreseen, also the necessary rooms for an acrobatic school in a new centre for leisure activities. It is expected to focus a wide variety of people from different fields to contribute for the continueing growth of Oru village. The grain dryer with it’s new look will be a new attraction for the locals and visitors for years to come
