Effect of magnification and field of view on reading speed using a CCTV
Reading speeds were measured in 18 subjects with normal vision and 10 with low vision for each of 20 experimental conditions with different magnifications and field sizes on the Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV). There was a significant difference between the results for the two groups of subjects. These results suggested that in low-vision patients with faster reading speeds, minimum magnification for maximum field size on the CCTV would be valid advice. For low-vision patients who read more slowly, reading speed may improve at higher magnifications despite reduced field size
The Challenges of Governance Structure, Trade Disputes and Natural Environment to China's Growth
Viewing the Chinese economy as a speeding car, there are three types of development that could crash the car: (1) a hardware failure, which is the breakdown of an economic mechanism (analogous to the collapse of the chassis of the car), e.g. a banking crisis; (2) a software failure, which is a flaw in governance that creates social disorders (analogous to a fight among the people inside the car), e.g. the state not being able to meet the rising social expectations about its performance because many of the key regulatory institutions are absent or ineffective; and (3) a power supply failure, which is the loss of economic viability (analogous to the car running out of gas or having its ignition key pulled out) e.g. an environmental collapse or an export collapse. The fact that China has recently declared that its most important task is to build a Harmonious Society (described as a democratic society under the rule of law and living in harmony with nature) suggests that improvements in governance and protection of the environment are among the most serious challenges to achieving sustainable development. The greatest inadequacy of the Harmonious Society vision is the absence of an objective to build a harmonious world because a harmonious society cannot endure in China unless there is also a harmonious world, and vice-versa. The large amount of structural adjustments in the developed countries generated by rapid globalization and technological innovations has made the international atmosphere ripe for trade protectionism; and environmental degradation has made conflict over the global environmental commons more likely. China's quest for a harmonious society requires it to help provide global public goods, particularly the strengthening of the multilateral free trade system, and the protection of the global environmental commons. Ludwig van Beethoven jedan je od najvećih skladatelja svih vremena. Unatoč teškom djetinjstvu, nesretnim ljubavima i bolesti koja ga je pratila veliki dio života, bogatstvo njegove ostavštine neupitno je i neprocjenjivo. Iza sebe je ostavio velik broj glazbenih djela koja su dio koncertnih repertoara. 32 varijacije u c-molu jedine su Beethovenove varijacije za klavir pisane u obliku chaconne. Raznolikost karaktera, dinamike, tempa i artikulacije čine ih tehničkim i muzičkim izazovom za pijaniste, no unatoč zahtjevima, ove varijacije su poznate i često izvođene.This work introduces the short biography of Ludwig van Beethoven, with special reference to his variations for piano, and a formal, technical and interpretative analysis of 32 variations in C Minor WoO 80. Ludwig van Beethoven is one of the greatest composers of all time. Despite his tough childhood, unhappy love and illness that followed him much of his life, the richness of his legacy is unquestionable and priceless. Many of his works are today part of the concert repertoire. 32 variations in C minor are the only Beethoven piano variations written in chaconne form. The variety of characters, dynamics, and articulations make them a technical and musical challenge for pianists, but despite the requirements, these variations are well known and often performed

China's economic growth engine: The likely types of hardware failure, software failure and power supply failure
The 6th Plenum of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) concluded on October 11, 2006, with the commitment to establish a harmonious society by 2020. The obvious implication from this commitment is that the present major social, economic and political trends are not leading to a harmonious society or, at least, not leading to a harmonious society fast enough. Analytically, if the Chinese economy is depicted as a speeding car, there are three classes of failures (a) a hardware failure from the breakdown of an economic mechanism, a development that is analogous to the collapse of the chassis of the car; (b) a software failure from a flaw in governance that creates frequent widespread social disorders that disrupt production economy-wide and discourage private investment, a situation similar to a car crash that resulted from a fight among the people inside the speeding car; and (c) a power supply failure from hitting either a natural limit or an externally-imposed limit, a situation that is akin, respectively, to the car running out of gas or to the car smashing into a barrier erected by an outsider. For hardware failure we discuss the possible weakening of China's fiscal position generated by the repeated recapitalization of the state banks. For software failure, we discuss possible social disorder caused by outmoded governance. And for power supply failure, we discuss the possible trade disputes from China’s chronic trade imbalances and the physical constraints posed by China’s rapidly deteriorating natural environment.China; growth; banks; environment

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Nitrogen-Doped Pt/C Electrocatalysts with Enhanced Activity and Stability toward the Oxygen Reduction Reaction
Recently, nitrogen-doped carbon materials have proved to be
effective catalytic platforms for the oxygen reduction reaction
(ORR). Despite the recent synthetic advances for the preparation
of nitrogen-incorporated carbon materials, the low-temperature
and water-based synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon
materials has rarely been explored due to the difficulties in nitrogen-
doping under such mild conditions. Here, nitrogendoped
Pt/C (Pt/NC) catalysts are prepared using a facile, lowtemperature,
aqueous-phase method. Hydrazine treatment of
a Pt/C catalyst successfully yields Pt/NC with controlled nitrogen
content. The as-prepared Pt/NC catalysts exhibit enhanced
electrocatalytic activity and stability toward ORR in comparison
to nitrogen-free Pt/C, and their ORR activities are highly dependent
on the level of nitrogen-doping. The Pt/NC catalyst containing
2.0 at% nitrogen results in the largest improvement of
