The figure of the cultural anthropologist Furio Jesi has experienced a major rediscovery in recent years thanks to the commendable republication of his books and the publication of numerous unpublished works. In this rediscovery, however, a non-secondary aspect of this multifaceted author still remains in shadow, namely his philosophical and hermeneutic interest in the idea of translation. There are many traces of Jesi’s interest in the theory of translation. A volume entitled Translation and Duplicity of Languages was not completed, but there are some chapters from this project (already published in magazines) and materials still awaiting publication. After the study of Walter Benjamin’s Essays on Language, translation represents for Jesi a fundamental ‘linguistic’ junction of the relationship between the sacred and the profane, between myth and mythologem, between the origin and history of language. The aim of this essay will be to reconstruct and clarify Jesi’s idea of ‘translatability’, trying to trace a common thread among the theoretical essays in which Jesi determines translation as a further gnoseological background of his ‘mythological machine’ on the one hand, and the excursus of history of the language and his critical essays on literature on the other

Atheism and Depth of Being. A Brief Exchange of Letters between Furio Jesi and Gershom Scholem

    No full text
Through a comment of the correspondence between Furio Jesi and Gershom Sholem, the author explores the tension between atheism and Judaism that, according to the same Jesi, characterized his own research. His studies on the myth and the mystique and the mediation of Scholem did not only allow Jesi to get on top of his own biography of "half Jew". Being nameless and hidden, the God of the Jews seems also to legitimize and justify Jesi's attempt to develop his research on religious beliefs without assuming the existence of a god

Parole chiave: Furio Jesi, Teoria della traduzione, Elias Canetti, Thomas Mann, Rainer Maria Rilke   Furio Jesi has been widely re-discovered in recent years thanks to the meritorious republication of his books and the publication of numerous unpublished works. However, non-secondary aspects of this multifaceted author still remain unexplored, namely his interest in translation theory and, particularly, his work as a translator. He was a prolific translator especially of German-language literature and philosophy, but his translations have never been the object of critical consideration. The first paragraph of this contribution is dedicated to Jesi’s general methodology of translation; paragraphs 2, 3, and 4 analyse of his translations of essayistic prose (Canetti), literature (Th. Mann) and poetry (Rilke). The analysis demonstrates that Jesi is a linguistically precise, philologically scrupulous, scientifically reliable translator – the kind of learned translator who holds his erudition in check so that the final form of his version is perfectly balanced and does not result in a free and disrespectful parody of the original. Keywords: Furio Jesi, Translation Theory, Elias Canetti, Thomas Mann, Rainer Maria Rilk

This study examines the impact of military connection and politically connection on Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure. Using 110 firm year observations of Indonesia listed firms, we predict that the presence of military or politically connection in firms board will increase the Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure level on its Sustainability Report. We found that military connected boards increase the Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure while politically connection does not show any correlation. Our further analysis on specific type of each connection shows that military career position, army military origin, marine military origin, People's Consultative Assembly politically affiliation and House of Representation politically affiliation increase the level of Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure level. Our result is robust due to various research model and Heckmana's two stage regression. © 2019 by author(s) and VsI Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Center

Myth and revolt: Breaking with "normal time"?

The normative quality of temporality has been widely acknowledged by scholars. In capitalist modernity, revolution can, in a sense, be understood as a revolt against time itself. As Walter Benjamin writes in Theses on the Concept of History (1940), revolutionaries make the “continuum of history explode.” Nearly thirty years later, in the aftermath of May 1968, the Italian author Furio Jesi revisits the issue. In Spartakus: The Symbology of Revolt, he distinguishes between revolution and revolt based on their differing experiences of time. While revolution remains embedded in historical time, revolt is defined as its “suspension.” Analyzing the Spartacist revolt of 1919 “from within,” Jesi interprets it as an “epiphany of myth” that disrupts “normal time,” the time of normality. But does revolt truly transcend the norms of bourgeois society? Does its suspension of time create a new form of normativity, or is it merely a temporary rupture that ultimately reinforces capitalist time? How can the singular experience of myth in revolt avoid the risk of its own mythicization? Jesi’s analysis in Spartakus, recently translated into multiple languages, offers crucial insights into the ambivalent nature of revolt, beyond its celebration or condemnation.

Islamic Banking Research in Indonesia: A Bibliometric Mapping Using Scopus and Biblioshiny

    Get PDF
Introduction: Islamic banking in Indonesia is an expanding scholarly domain. This study maps the development of Islamic banking research by analyzing Scopus-indexed publications. Despite rising output, comprehensive bibliometric assessments of Indonesia’s Islamic banking literature remain limited; the study asks what thematic trends, author productivity, and future research directions characterize the field. Using biblioshiny, the paper delivers a consolidated, Scopus-based national mapping that visualizes how the domain has evolved within Indonesia’s academic context. Methodology: We analyze 201 Scopus-indexed documents with RStudio’s Biblioshiny, applying descriptive statistics, co-occurrence analysis, thematic evolution, and clustering to reveal patterns, author networks, keyword trends, and intellectual structures. Results: Publications show steady growth with a marked post-2015 surge. Core themes include Islamic finance, Sharia compliance, and Islamic fintech, alongside identifiable key authors, journals, and institutions. The field is shifting from conceptual discussions to empirical and application-oriented work, consistent with Price’s Law and Kuhn’s “normal science.â€Conclusion: The study clarifies knowledge growth in Indonesia’s Islamic banking scholarship and offers guidance for future research agendas, policymaking, and industry engagement, emphasizing collaboration among academics, regulators, and practitioners to strengthen the ecosystem and support inclusive, sustainable financial development
