This text is a transcription of presentation made by Dr. iur. Tonio Kröger, a nostalgic bourgeois
The objective of this article is to understand how the novel Tonio Kröger by Thomas Mann tries to represent the crisis of the traditional german bourgeoisie and, consequently, the humanistic values that the author ascribes to it. In order to do so, we will start with some general remarks proposed by some scholars about this social class, to later understand the specificities that it possess in the german context. After that, we will use Friedrich Schiller definitions in order to better characterize the novel’s protagonist, an artist, as a sentimental bourgeois, opposing him to the naive that he declares his love to

"But he loves me . . . to death”. An Interview with Director Tonio De Nitto and Translator-Adaptor Francesco Niccolini about their Staging of La Bisbetica Domata (The Taming of the Shrew) for Factory Compagnia Transadriatica
The author interviews director Tonio De Nitto and translator-adaptor Francesco Niccolini about their staging of La Bisbetica Domata – an Italian adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew produced by Factory Compagnia Transadriatica in 2015 and performed in numerous national and international venues ever since. Tapping into Factory’s deep-rooted attachment to their Apulian residency and De Nitto’s longstanding fascination with Shakespearean drama, the interview delves into the semiotics and semantics of the adaptation, discussing the challenges and the interpretative stances arising from Niccolini’s translation in rhyming couplets and De Nitto’s ‘Burtonian’ staging, marked by thought-provoking casting choices, dismal soundtracks, and meaning-laden scenic, light, and costume designs

Historical reliefs during the reign of Augustus
While establishing his monarchy, Augustus made use of monuments and figurative works on a massive and unprecedented scale. Political iconography was employed not only in the decoration of public buildings, but also within the private sphere. In most cases, such works are not imperial “propaganda” imposed from above, but rather initiatives of the Senate and people, as well as of social groups wishing to express their support of the emperor’s domination by displaying their approval. The iconographie themes focus of the core aspects of the emperor’s role : his victory over foreign foes and his veneration of the gods of the Roman state. In order to facilitate their analysis, the author has established a rich iconographic vocabulary that spans complex scenes of political ritual as well as simple symbols. These themes represent ideological models such as virtus and pietas, tenets of a state ideology that remained relatively unchanged throughout the history of the Roman Empire.
This paper analyzes the possibilities of artistic creation, of literature in particular, to provide our experience with ethical imagination. In three works of Thomas Mann —Tristan, Tonio Kröger and Death in Venice— the author shows the conflict of the artist in the modern world and its relationship with the ethical configuration of the existence. Hence, the central question is, how can language help in the configuration of our morality
