UNDERSTANDING INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD FEEDING CHALLENGES IN CHINA
No full textThis paper reviews infant feeding challenges China faces in the current economic and social climate. Infant and young childhood is a critical period of growth and development and losses due to under-nutrition are often irreversible. In urban areas, there has been a rapid increase in childhood obesity since the market reform policies of the early 1980’s, with interventions focusing on school-aged children or young adults. Under-nutrition continues to be widespread in many rural areas of China, and while improvements have taken place, most efforts are focused on school-aged children. In both under- and over-nutrition, little attention has been paid to the role infant feeding plays. Through observations and interviews with healthcare workers, mother’s groups and rural-urban migrant women in Shanghai and Yunnan, we attempt to deconstruct social and economic determinants of infant and young child feeding practices in order to illuminate specific barriers and possible solutions. Infant feeding decisions, particularly those regarding breastfeeding, are closely linked to cultural, economic and social values. Education, a crucial component of improving nutritional outcomes, does not alone change infant feeding behavior. Rural-to-urban migration, re-negotiation of family roles, and media as the main source of nutrition information for households each pose unique barriers to providing infant and young children with proper nutrition. Infant feeding and nutrition programs should take a multi-pronged approach that includes education, awareness, and policy. 摘要： 本文讨论在当前经济和社会环境下，中国所面临的婴儿喂养问题。婴儿和幼儿期是生长发育的关键期，在此阶段由于营养不足而造成的不利影响常常是无法弥补的。在中国很多农村地区，营养不足仍然相当普遍，虽然相应的改进措施已经实施，但是大多数只关注于学龄期儿童。在城市中，自80年代市场改革开放以来，儿童肥胖迅速增长，而相应的干预措施也只关注于学龄期儿童及青少年。无论是营养不足还是营养过剩，都没有注意到婴儿喂养在其中所起的作用。教育，虽然是改善营养状况的关键因素，但是单靠教育难以改变婴儿喂养习惯。从农村到城市的移居，家庭成员角色的重新定位，以及家庭营养信息主要来自于媒体等，各自从不同方面对婴幼儿获得适宜营养发挥着独特的作用。因此，婴儿喂养和营养计划应该多管齐下，包括教育、宣传、政策制定等
Antonio Vicente Seraphim Pietroforte, e a vida masoquista
No full textDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura, Florianópolis, 2015.Esta dissertação de mestrado tem como objeto principal três livros do escritor Antonio Vicente Seraphim Pietroforte, publicados entre 2007 e 2011. A partir da leitura de Amsterdã SM (2007), Irmão noite, irmã lua (2008) e Sara sob céu escuro (2011), o que se pretende é demonstrar o quanto, na obra de Pietroforte, a escrita de um erotismo voltado para práticas não convencionais da sexualidade, particularmente o sadomasoquismo, abrem-se para uma leitura da obra em que figuram temas como a referencialidade, o erotismo enquanto prática ritual e, mais importante, a ascensão de um conceito de vida masoquista. A partir da análise que Gilles Deleuze realiza em seu livro Sacher-Masoch: o frio e o cruel, lendo o universo da escrita do escritor austríaco ao mesmo tempo em que afasta sua literatura da de Sade, a quem por muito tempo serviu de complemento, surge uma ideia de que as práticas do masoquismo, muito mais do que reguladas pela instância do contrato, são parte de um processo de ritualização da sexualidade e, em última análise, da própria vida do escritor, que viveu muito daquilo que ecoa em sua escrita. Na obra de Pietroforte, igualmente, o relato das experiências ligadas ao masoquismo imiscui-se na literatura, e o próprio texto coloca-se a serviço da eroticidade do ato de escrever, uma vez que esconde mais que revela, forçando o leitor a penetrar o texto de forma a conseguir extrair dele as referências que a todo o momento apontam para a rede de leituras costurada pelo autor em seus livros. O texto de Pietroforte se abre para uma leitura do conceito de vida masoquista na cultura brasileira, e de suas implicações na formação de uma noção de entre-lugar na literatura nacional. O tema do masoquismo é frequente em nossas letras, desde o século XIX; está dado em autores como José de Alencar, Machado de Assis, Adolfo Caminha, e de igual maneira em Dalton Trevisan e Glauco Mattoso, apenas para firmar alguns exemplos.Abstract : This Master?s Thesis has as main object three books from the writer Antonio Vicente Serphim Pietroforte, published between 2007 and 2011. From the reading of Amsterdã SM (2007), Irmão noite, irmã lua (2008) and Sara sob céu escuro (2011), what is sought to demonstrate is how much, in Pietroforte?s work, the writing of an eroticism turned to non-conventional practices of sexuality, particularly sadomasochism, opens itself up to a reading of the work in which such themes as referentiality, eroticism as a ritual practice and, more importantly, the rise of a concept of masochistic life figure. From the analysis that Gilles Deleuze performs in his book Coldness and Cruelty, in which he reads the written universe of the Austrian author at the same time trying to fend his literature from that of Sade, to which he Sacher-Masoch had for a long time served as a mere complement, an idea is born that the practices of masochism, much more than regulated by the contract instance, are part of a process of ritualization of sexuality and lastly of the author?s own life, who lived much of that which echoes in his writings. In Pietroforte?s work, similarly, the narrative of sadomasochism-related experiences merges itself with his literature and the text puts itself in service of the eroticity of the writing act, once it hides more than reveals, thus forcing the reader to penetrate the text in order to extract from it the references that the whole time point to the reading net sewed by the author in his books. Pietroforte?s text opens itself up to a reading of the concept of masochistic life in Brazilian culture and of its implications in the formation of a notion of a national in-between. The subject of masochism is frequent in Brazilian literature, ever since the 19th century: it is given in authors such as José de Alencar, Machado de Assis and Adolfo Caminha, as well as in Dalton Trevisan and Glauco Mattoso, only to firm up some examples
Internet connection method for mobile ad hoc wireless networks
No full textIn recent years, wireless networks with Internet services have become more and
more popular. Technologies which integrate Internet and wireless networks have
extended traditional Internet applications into a more flexible and dynamic
environment. This research work investigates the technology that supports the
connection between a Mobile Ad Hoc Wireless Network (MANET) and the
Internet, which enables the current wireless Internet technologies to provide a
ubiquitous wireless life style.
With detailed analysis of the existing wireless Internet technologies and
MANETs regarding their features and applications, the demand and lack of
research work for an application to provide Internet connection to MANET is
indicated. The primary difficulty for MANET and Internet connection is that the
dynamic features of MANET do not suit the traditional connection methods used
in infrastructure wireless networks. This thesis introduces new concept of the
'Gateway Awareness' (GAW) to the wireless devices in the MANET. GAW is a
new routing protocol designed by the author of this thesis, at the University of
Warwick. Based on GAW, an inclusive definition for the connection method,
which supports the Internet connection and keeps the independency of routing in
MANET, is addressed. Unlike other research work, this method supports the
MANET and Internet communication in both directions. Furthermore, it explores
possible ways of using the Internet as an extension for wireless communications.
The GAW routing method is developed from destination sequenced distance
vector (DSDV) routing protocol. However, it defines a layer of wireless nodes
(known as GAWNs) with exclusive functions for the Internet connection task.
The layer of GAWNs brings a new set of route update and route selection
method. Simulations show that the GAW routing method provides quality
Internet connection performance in different scenarios compared with other
methods. In particular, the connection is completed with minimum effect on the
independent MANET while the routing efficiency and accuracy is guaranteed

No full textTCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas, Curso de Ciências Sociais.O objetivo deste trabalho é, utilizando uma metodologia baseada no contextualismo linguístico, fazer uma análise do pensamento político de duas importantes comunidades políticas da Antiguidade: Grécia e Roma. Essa pesquisa pretende compreender o que foi assimilado pelos pensadores romanos da época republicana no tocante àquilo que lhes foi passado pelos gregos através dos mais diversos artifícios. É sabido que a reflexão romana sobre a República, aqui, na figura de Cícero, é retratada em diversos pontos das obras desse autor com citações e até mesmo homenagens a pensadores gregos, como no caso de Platão. O que se pretende fazer é elucidar os momentos em que, na presença de reflexões sobre a Democracia na Hélade, encontram-se características daquilo que foi criado posteriormente em se tratando de um pensamento republicano em Roma e, indo mais a fundo, se é possível aquilatar a originalidade dos romanos em relação a esse pensamento. A Democracia e a política nasceram na Grécia Antiga e é de lá que se têm relatos dos primeiros homens que se questionaram sobre a vida pública de suas cidades e as teorizaram. Roma, em sua fase republicana, floresceu como nunca antes em se tratando da política na urbe e dos arranjos que eram necessários para que a plebe e os patrícios pudessem conviver em um mesmo espaço; as contestações partiam dos dois lados, produzindo diversas modificações na maneira como o Governo era organizado. As duas âncoras a serem utilizadas para fazer essa distinção se concentrarão em Platão e Cícero, pois ambos escreveram tratados semelhantes sobre a República e as Leis, e é em Cícero que se encontra o que ele, enquanto cidadão romano e político, pensava sobre aquilo que os gregos deixaram de herança. Admitindo a importância de Cícero enquanto grande pensador da república romana e a de Platão igualmente em toda Hélade, o trabalho pretende contribuir com as discussões que estão sendo levantadas nas últimas décadas pelos neo-republicanos acerca de conceitos essenciais da teoria política que foram resgatados apartir dos Antigos
Financing health services in Africa : an assessment of alternative approaches
No full textThis paper outlines a strategy for financing health services in sub-Saharan Africa. The individual components of the strategy are as follows: general tax revenues, international finance, a system of user charges, community finance, health insurance, and contributions from nongovernmental organizations, including the private sector. The author states that financial positions of public health care systems in sub-Saharan Africa would be greatly enhanced if governments in the region were to adopt policies that would use each of the above sources of finance. Since a strong financial base is a prerequisite for an effective health care system, such policies would considerably improve the health status of the population. LUACOMP : ferramenta de autoria de aplicações para tv digital
No full textDissertação (mestrado)—Universidade de Brasília, Faculdade de Tecnologia, Departamento de Engenharia Elétrica, 2009.Esta dissertação apresenta uma ferramenta de autoria para aplicações híbridas (declarativas e procedurais) em Ginga-NCLua para a TV Digital interativa do Brasil. A demora na disponibilização do Ginga-J, módulo do Ginga para códigos procedurais, foi a maior motivação para este trabalho. A necessidade de se criar aplicações procedurais com entrada e saída de dados, e as vantagens de se usar a linguagem Lua e o Ginga-NCLua (uma classe de objetos de mídia Lua), foram um importante fator de incentivo. O LuaComp é uma ferramenta de autoria que possibilita ao usuário a rápida criação de aplicações. O LuaComp explorando funcionalidades do LuaOnTV. O LuaOnTV é um framework para utilização dos componentes gráficos para entrada e saída de dados em aplicações interativas implementada sob o paradigma da programação orientada a objetos. O LuaComp, além de uma interface de fácil uso e com os principais recursos das mais destacadas ferramentas de autoria, Delphi e Visual Basic, também apresenta as visões como recursos utilizados na maioria das ferramentas de autoria para TV Digital. O LuaComp também se destaca por apresentar um resultado WYSIWYG e permitir a criação e utilização de templates em arquivos XML. O Luacomp implementa aplicações NCL com pouco sincronismo, mas o suficiente para sincronizar a aplicação NCLua com a programação e/ou vídeo principal. Em resumo, o sistema proposto visa agilizar a criação de aplicações voltadas para TVs Digitais interativas, abstraindo do autor toda, ou pelo menos parcialmente, a complexidade de se programar em NCL e Lua. _________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis work presents an authoring tool to create hybrid (declarative and procedural) applications of Ginga-NCLua for interactive digital TV of Brazil. The unavailability of Ginga-J middleware was the biggest motivation for this work. The demand of input/output applications, the availability of Ginga-NCLua (a class of Lua media objects) and the advantages of Lua language were an important incentive. The LuaComp is an authoring tool to makes possible a fast creation of applications, exploring LuaOnTV, a framework of graphical components to interactive applications of input and output of data implemented under the paradigm of object-oriented programming (OOP). The LuaComp is an interface of easy use with the most advanced authoring tool, Delphi and Visual Basic. In the same way that in the most authoring tool of interactive digital tv, in which it is based, in LuaComp, the abstractions are defined using views that allow to simulate a specific type of edition (structural, temporal, layout and textual). This tool also presents the visions of the authorship tools for digital TV. The LuaComp also presents a result WYSIWYG and allow create templates to archives XML. The Luacomp implements NCL applications with little synchronism but sufficient to synchronize the NCLua applications with the programming and/or video. O Referente errante: The Waste Land e sua Máquina de Teses

S. Eliot, a fim de colocar em xeque sua suposta função explicativa. Em outras palavras, defende-se aqui a tese de que as notas de Eliot não operam como mapa interpretativo do poema; pelo contrário, valem-se de uma posição limítrofe para complicar todo gesto analítico, inclusive aquele por elas a princípio fundado. As "Notas sobre The Waste Land" ironizam o próprio dispositivo acadêmico que lhes serve de base para exercer seu pretenso papel esclarecedor. Para defender tal argumento, cada um dos cinco capítulos do presente trabalho parte de uma das notas do poeta e investiga o adiamento interpretativo resultante do choque entre os versos e a "autoanálise" ali proposta. Uma vez que as "Notes on The Waste Land" afastam-se do intuito elucidativo que lhes foi designado, cabe, portanto, associá-las ao mesmo procedimento crítico que fundou as noções de "paideuma" e "tradição". A rigor, parece-nos que estamos diante de mais uma das moedas falsas do modernismo.This study questions the explicative function of the "Notes on The Waste Land," by T. S. Eliot. The hypothesis is that Eliot's notes do not work as an interpretative map of the poem; rather, they take advantage of their borderline position to complicate every analytic attempt, including the one they apparently present. The "Notes on The Waste Land" parody the very academic network that allows them to play their alleged clarifying role. For the purpose of advancing this line of thought, each of the five chapters of the study starts from one of the poet's notes and investigates the interpretative postponement resulting from the clash between the verses and the "self-analysis" there offered. As the "Notes on The Waste Land" are far from fulfilling the function for which they were envisaged, it is important, therefore, to link them to the same literary procedure that introduced notions such as "paideuma" and "tradition". In fact, the thesis reveals the possibility that the notes themselves may be another modernist counterfeit coin

A participação das crianças nos websites das escolas municipais de Florianópolis

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação.O trabalho procura compreender a relação das crianças com o site institucional da própria Escola, relação essa entendida como possibilidade de produção de sentidos. Considerando que as crianças são receptores potenciais do site, o foco do estudo é o modo como as crianças atribuem sentido à sua participação na escola, e, mais especificamente, no site ali produzido. O trabalho incluiu uma pesquisa de recepção realizada com crianças de quarta e de quinta série de uma escola pública municipal de Florianópolis/SC. Foram usados questionários, discussões em grupos focais com as crianças, além de entrevistas com profissionais e exestudantes que participaram da produção do site. A partir dos depoimentos das crianças, ficou claro que a participação ainda é, na maioria das situações, tutelada e didatizada. No caso da participação no site, as crianças atribuem importância ao sentimento de pertencimento, por um lado, e, por outro, questionam seu endereçamento e interatividade. Com essa atenção ao sentido que as próprias crianças dão à sua participação na produção midiática, a pesquisa procura contribuir para a discussão acerca da relevância de se inserirem aspectos da mídia educação no contexto escolar, como coadjuvantes no processo de formação de pessoas capazes tanto de fazer uma leitura crítica das mídias quanto de participarem ativamente da sua produção
