La cultura organizativa como explicación del esfuerzo de búsqueda de empleo en pequeñas, medianas y grandes empresas
This study examines whether organizational culture influences employees to seek alternative job opportunities and explores the moderating effect of firm size on the relationship between organizational culture and job search effort. Conducted in Sri Lanka, the research focuses on employees from small, medium, and large private firms, categorized by the number of persons employed. A total of 252 valid responses were analyzed. The findings reveal that organizational culture significantly impacts employees’ job search effort and that firm size plays a moderating role in this relationship.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Information Literacy of First-Year Undergraduates Across Disciplines - Engineering, Architecture, and Information Technology
The literature suggests that students commence university education with limited levels of IL, and this is true for both developed and developing countries. When universities understand entry-level students’ actual level of IL at the beginning of their undergraduate programmes, universities can objectively describe entry-level undergraduates’ IL levels and take steps to improve the levels to match with required revels for academic success. The purpose of the study was to investigate the information literacy of first-year undergraduates of engineering, architecture, and information technology disciplines when they commence their university education, and whether socio-demographic characteristics are associated with the information literacy of first-year undergraduates. 545 first-year undergraduates covering the three study disciplines responded to the survey questionnaire. Quantitative methods were used to analyse the data. Findings revealed that although information literacy exists in undergraduates to a certain extent, these vary by the discipline of study. The findings imply the need of addressing information literacy requirements by the discipline of the study to better serve undergraduates. Overall, the results lead to understanding information skills and behaviour of entry-level undergraduates, and what kinds of library services are appropriate and necessary for undergraduates across disciplines
First-Generation Highly Skilled Migrants from a South-Asian Country
This paper presents findings of a study that investigated causes for migration, the expectations of migration and post-migration experience of IT professionals from Sri Lanka. The paper also discusses effects of education qualification from abroad, past work experience from abroad, and homeownership before migration on skilled migration. For the study, survey methodology was used, and two different sample groups were selected – migrants and prospective migrants from the IT sector. The results indicated two domains of causes and four domains of expectations. There were significant differences between expectations and post-migration experience of migrants; there were significant differences in some causes for migration and expectations and postmigration experience by homeownership before migration. The paper concludes with a discussion on implications of the findings for theory and practice
La relación entre la formalización de la función de recursos humanos y la intensidad de las prácticas de gestión de recursos humanos en las PYMEs: Un estudio empírico en Sri Lanka
[SPA] Human resource management (HRM) intensity is important for any type of business in which human resources play a vital role. However, little is known about HRM intensity in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the formalization of HRM function and HRM intensity. The sample of the study consists of mediumsized enterprises operating in Sri Lanka. The results show that although the formalization of HRM function is low, HRM intensity is high. The findings also show that higher levels of formalization lead to a greater intensity in HRM practices.
Institutional Response to Implement 4IR Competencies into Programme Offerings of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Indo-Pacific
The paper provides results of a study that investigated the response of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions for the implementation of 4th industrial revolution (4IR) competencies into programme offerings. The investigation was confined to TVET in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields at the tertiary level. 470 TVET staff responded to the survey from 15 countries, all of which belonging to the middle-income category in Indo-Pacific. The study examined institutional response covering eight areas, i.e., financial support for digital transformations, support for partnerships, job market sensitivity, support for changes to programme offerings, popularization of programme offerings, support for teacher development, support for adherence to quality, and the overall assessment of institution management in response to implementing 4IR competencies into programme offerings. The results showed significant differences in the institutional response for the eight areas by the institution type - TVET regulatory bodies, TVET teacher training and research institutes, TVET universities, polytechnics, and TVET colleges
