Peptide Surface Modification of P(HEMA-<i>co</i>-MMA)-<i>b</i>-PIB-<i>b</i>-P(HEMA-<i>co</i>-MMA) Block Copolymers
Peptide surface modification of poly[(methyl methacrylate-co-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)-b-isobutylene-b-(methyl methacrylate-co-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)] P(MMA-co-HEMA)-b-PIB-b-P(MMA-co-HEMA) triblock copolymers with different HEMA/MMA ratios has been accomplished using an efficient synthetic procedure. The triblock copolymers were reacted with 4-fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride (fosyl chloride) in pyridine to obtain the activated polymers [poly{(methyl methacrylate-co-fosyloxyethyl methacrylate)-b-isobutylene-b-(methyl methacrylate-co-fosyloxyethyl methacrylate)}] P(MMA-co-FEMA)-b-PIB-b-P(MMA-co-FEMA), with an activating efficiency of 80−90%. The resulting polymers were soluble in chloroform, and their solutions were used to coat thin uniform films with a predetermined thickness on smooth steel surfaces. The presence of reactive activating groups on the film surface was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), dye labeling, and confocal laser scanning microscopic studies. Activation of the triblock copolymer films was also achieved under heterogeneous conditions in polar (acetonitrile) and nonpolar (hexanes) media. The extent of activation was controlled by varying the dipping time and polarity of the medium. Peptide attachment was accomplished by immersing the coated steel strips into aqueous buffer solution of Gly-Gly or GYIGSR. XPS and solubility studies revealed successful attachment of peptides to the polymer surface. Virtually all remaining activating groups were successfully replaced in the subsequent step by a treatment with Tris(hydroxymethyl)amino methane in a buffered methanol/water mixture
Hybrid layer seals the cementum/4-META/MMA-TBB resin interface
Although 4-META/MMA-TBB resin has adhesive properties to dentin, and has been clinically used for the bonding treatment of vertically fractured roots and apicoectomy, there has not been any investigation on the adhesion of 4-META/MMA-TBB resin to cementum. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the bonding and the sealing ability of 4-META/MMA-TBB resin to cementum. Bovine root cementum and dentin surfaces were treated with a citric acid and ferric chloride solution, and the 4-META/MMA-TBB resin was applied on the treated surfaces before testing. The microtensile bond strength and the leakage levels obtained for the cementum were almost equal to those for the dentin. In SEM and TEM observations, a hybrid layer approximately 2-3 μ in thickness was observed at the interface between the resin and the cementum. It is concluded that 4-META/MMA-TBB resin adhered to cementum via a hybrid layer on cementum, as previously reported for dentin. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Pengaruh MMA terhadap Citra Rusia dalam Olahraga Seni Beladiri Internasional 2012-2021
Abstract
Sport has become one of the influential instruments for the image of a country. Russia as an influential country in the world, is also famous for using sports as a political tool for its foreign cooperation. The popularity of mixed martial arts events or MMA in the world, makes the Russian fighter to be reckoned with because of his dominance over his victories. This is followed by the background of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, who pays special attention to the sport of martial arts in Russia. The presence of the Russia MMA Union in 2012, was the starting point for the dynamics between international MMA organizations such as UFC, Bellator, and M-1 Global as a collaboration to improve Russia's image in international martial arts sports. In addition, the use of MMA athletes through sportswashing was also carried out by Vladimir Putin in improving the image of the Russian state. Thus, there is a dynamic associated with governmental and non-governmental actors, to improve the image of the Russian state in the international public with the sport of MMA. The author will explain the Influence of MMA on the Image of Russia in International Martial Arts Sports 2012-2021.

Olahraga telah menjadi salah satu instrumen yang berpengaruh bagi citra suatu negara. Rusia sebagai negara yang berpengaruh di dunia, juga terkenal dengan menggunakan olahraga sebagai alat politik terhadap kerjasama luar negerinya. Popularitas ajang seni beladiri mixed martial arts atau MMA di dunia, menjadikan petarung Rusia diperhitungkan karena dominasi atas kemenangannya. Hal ini diikuti dengan latar belakang presiden Rusia, Vladimir Putin, yang memberikan perhatian khusus bagi olahraga seni beladiri di Rusia. Kehadiran Russia MMA Union di tahun 2012, merupakan titik awal dari dinamika antar organisasi MMA internasional seperti UFC, Bellator, dan M-1 Global sebagai kerjasama meningkatkan citra Rusia dalam olahraga seni beladiri internasional. Selain itu, penggunaan atlet MMA melalui sportswashing juga dilakukan Vladimir Putin dalam meningkatkan citra negara Rusia. Dengan demikian, terdapat dinamika yang berhubungan antara aktor pemerintah dan non-pemerintah, untuk meningkatkan citra negara Rusia di publik internasional dengan adanya olahraga MMA. Penulis akan menjelaskan Pengaruh MMA terhadap Citra Rusia dalam Olahraga Seni Beladiri Internasional 2012-2021.

RESENHA DO LIVRO "FILHO TEU NÃO FOGE A LUTA: COMO OS LUTADORES BRASILEIROS TRANSFORMARAM O MMA EM UM FENÔMENO MUNDIAL"
A review of book "Filho teu não foge à luta:como lutadores brasileiros transformaram o MMA emum fenômeno mundial" is about of MMA ( Mixed MartialArts), written by journalist Fellipe Awi (2012). Theauthor writes the history of the sport from the point ofthe creation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the fighterspromoted by Gracie Family in the beginning of lastcentury. Showing the superiority of this fight/art, theauthor argues that developed of these techniques aretaken from Japanese martial art called Jujutsu. Thewell-known fights in the past named "Vale-Tudo" andthe necessary changes to make MMA less violent arethe reasons for the audience interest in this fight inauthor opinion. In addition of that, some of the mostimportant MMA characters are part of the booknarrative, showing how difficult was in the begging tomake MMA become a sport with rules and penaltiesaccepted for all federations. Human remains from Tomb MMA 514 in North Asasif: preliminary assessment
Since 2013 the Asasif Project has conducted excavations of several Middle Kingdom tombs in the North Asasif Necropolis under the direction of Patryk Chudzik. Located adjacent to the New Kingdom temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahri in southern Egypt, these tombs were originally excavated in the early 20th century by H.E. Winlock. This article describes the results of a preliminary inventory of the human remains left behind from Winlock’s excavations of one of these tombs, MMA 514, and its associated funerary complex. This tomb was reused at least twice in antiquity after the original interment, and Winlock’s sometimes cursory (by modern standards) excavation methods have produced a highly mixed archaeological assemblage of human and faunal remains as well as archaeological artifacts from various time periods. In 2017, this author joined the Asasif Project for a very brief part of the excavation season to assess the condition and distribution of human remains from Tomb MMA 514. Although the human remains are in various stages of preservation and are highly fragmented, it is possible to identify at least nine separate individuals, ranging in age from infancy to adulthood
Effects of methyl methacrylate on the excitability of the area postrema neurons in rats
Objectives: The aim of the present study is to demonstrate the effects of inhaled methyl methacrylate (MMA) on the excitability of neurons in the area postrema (AP). We also investigated the relation between vagal afferent inputs and responding cells in the AP. Methods: We set up two groups of experimental animals, such as rats inhaling MMA and rats inhaling room air. To visualize the changes of AP neuron excitability after inhalation of MMA for 90 min, c-Fos protein expression was identified and quantified by immunohistochemical analysis. Some rats receiving ventral gastric branch vagotomy were also subjected to the abovementioned experiment. Results: The number of c-Fos-immunoreactive (Fos-ir) cells in the MMA group was more than six times greater than that of the control group (statistically significant, p < 0.01). In vagotomized rats inhaling MMA, markedly smaller number of Fos-ir cells was identified in the AP compared to that of rats inhaling MMA without vagotomy. Conclusions: These results indicate that inhalation of MMA increases neuronal excitability in the AP, suggesting that vagal afferent inputs are involved in the induction mechanism of Fos-ir cells by MMA. Blind Polarization Demultiplexing of Shaped QAM Signals Assisted by Temporal Correlations
While probabilistic constellation shaping (PCS) enables rate and reach adaption with finer granularity [1] (Cho and Winzer, 2009), it imposes signal processing challenges at the receiver. Since the distribution of PCS-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals tends to be Gaussian, conventional blind polarization demultiplexing algorithms are not suitable for them [2] (Johnson et al., 1998). It is known that independently and identically distributed (iid) Gaussian signals, when mixed, cannot be recovered/separated from their mixture. For PCS-QAM signals, there are algorithms such as [3] and [4] Dris et al. (2019) and Athuraliya et al. (2004) which are designed by extending conventional blind algorithms used for uniform QAM signals. In these algorithms, an initialization point is obtained by processing only a part of the mixed signal, which have non-Gaussian statistics. In this article, we propose an alternative method wherein we add temporal correlations at the transmitter, which are subsequently exploited at the receiver in order to separate the polarizations. We will refer to the proposed method as frequency domain (FD) joint diagonalization (JD) probability aware-multi modulus algorithm (pr-MMA), and it is suited to channels with moderate polarization mode dispersion (PMD) effects. Furthermore, we extend our previously proposed JD-MMA [5] (Bajaj et al., 2022) by replacing the standard MMA with a pr-MMA, improving its performance. Both FDJD-pr-MMA and JD-pr-MMA are evaluated for a diverse range of PCS (entropy ) of 64-QAM over a first-order PMD channel that is simulated in a proof-of-concept setup. A MMA initialized with a memoryless constant modulus algorithm (CMA) is used as a benchmark. We show that at a differential group delay (DGD) of 10% of symbol period T and 18 dB SNR/pol., JD-pr-MMA successfully demultiplexes the PCS signals, while CMA-MMA fails drastically. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the newly proposed FDJD-pr-MMA is robust against moderate PMD effects by evaluating it over a DGD of up to 40% of T.
