Dr. Mari Lee Mifsud – Faculty Author Interview
Dr. Mari Lee Mifsud, Professor of Rhetoric and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies, discusses her new book, Rhetoric and the Gift: Ancient Rhetorical Theory and Contemporary Communication, published recently by Duquesne University Press. Rhetoric and the Gift, taking as its starting point the Homeric idea of the gift and Aristotle’s related rhetorical theory, explores rhetoric not only at the level of the artful response but at the level of the call and response. Throughout the book, Dr. Mifsud pursues a number of questions crucial to thinking about contemporary communication

Supporting Data for: Assessing the efficiency of ethyl acetate for lipid extraction as an alternative to the Folch method in selected marine low-trophic species
The study aimed to bridge the knowledge gap in evaluating ethyl acetate (EtOAc) as a single organic solvent in lipid extraction and contribute to a deeper understanding of the targeted organic solvent lipid extraction systems. The efficiency of the EtOAc method was benchmarked against the well-established Folch method on total lipid content, lipid class profile, and fatty acid composition of four marine species: Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar Linnaeus, 1758), the zooplankton Calanus finmarchicus (Gunnerus, 1770), the microalgae Porosira glacialis (Grunow) Jörgensen, 1905, and the macroalgae Saccharina latissima (Linnaeus). Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionization Detector (GC-FID) analyses indicated that these marine species are excellent sources of highly unsaturated fatty acids. Additionally, High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) results demonstrated a synergistic relationship between solvent polarity and lipid polarity. Overall, the EtOAc method proves to be a potent alternative for extracting neutral lipids and free fatty acids from biological materials such as salmon fillets and C. finmarchicus. However, it exhibits lower efficiency with polar and complex lipids, as observed in P. glacialis and S. latissima
THE ANALYSIS OF DRUGS SITUATION IN MARI EL REPUBLIC
The article views the drugs situation in the Republic of Mari El in 2005 and 2006. usingthe statistical method on various aspects, the author analyzes the dynamics of the population narcotization. The author also suggests a number of activities which could help to regulate the drug situation in Mari El Republic, as well as in whole Russia
Formation of Ethnic Identity of Mari People in Absence of Single Mari Literary Language
This study is devoted to the history of the formation of the ethnic identity of the Mari people in the Republic of Mari El. Particular attention is paid to the changes in the identification of Mari, which occurred in direct proportion to extralinguistic factors. The question of the role of language, confessional affiliation, historical past, relations with nature and mythological symbols that characterize the modern ethnic Mari identity is considered. The importance of the demographic imbalance in the Republic, which played the most significant role in shaping the character of the Mari, is emphasized. The relevance of the study is due to the increased interest of science in recent decades in the topic of ethnic and Russian identity. The identity of the Mari people has not been previously studied by the author of this work, although many problems of Mari El have been analyzed and described in detail: the language situation in different time periods, language policy, the legislative framework regarding languages and the education system, the history of the Mari literary language, its writing and a number of other sociolinguistic aspects. Unlike articles by other authors on the topic of Mari identity, the novelty of this work lies in the fact that for the first time the identity is shown in the process of formation, from antiquity to the present day. A characteristic of the identity of the Mari people, formed under the influence of a variety of factors, is compiled
Odrodzenie tradycyjnej religii politeistycznej w Republice Mari El
The following article is dedicated to the rebirth of traditional politheist faith in Mari El Republic, which is a part of Volga Region within Russian Federation. The author presents an outline of the history and culture of Finno-Ugric Mari ethnos and describes their unique polytheistic religion. This native cult having its roots in Finno-Ugric mythology has survived numerous christianization and atheist campaigns to become one of the fundaments of cultural and national rebirth in 80s and 90s of the 20th century in Mari El Republic The article describes the contemporary Mari polytheist religion and its influence on the political life of Volga Region. The following article is dedicated to the rebirth of traditional politheist faith in Mari El Republic, which is a part of Volga Region within Russian Federation.
