A comparison of Richard Wagner's Der ring des Nibelungen and William Morris's Sigurd the volsung
No full textThe thesis compares the text of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen with
the epic poem Sigurd the Volsung by William Morris.
Chapter I begins with an outline of the question under discussion, namely, whether Sigurd the Volsung could have been written as an anti-ring. The rest of the thesis discusses various questions of interpretation which may help towards an answer to this question. Chapter II is devoted to a discussion of the sources in mediaeval literature of the Ring and Sigurd the Volsung , while Chapters III and IV discuss the poetic diction and imagery used by Wagner and Morris in their poems, examining the differences and similarities between the poetic devices used; special attention is paid to the use of metaphor. Chapters V to IX examine in closer detail the
presentation of the chief characters in the Ring and Sigurd, while Chapter X, the final chapter, sums up what has been presented in the previous chapters and concludes
that there is considerable evidence in favour of the hypothesis that Sigurd was written as an anti-Ring

No full textThe subject matter of my diploma thesis ?R. Wagner: Siegfried and
Götterdämmerung ? the clarinet?s orchestral role? is dedicated to the second and
the third evenings of the tetralogy, The Ring of Nibelung. At the same time I will
connect this work to my bachelor diploma thesis ? R. Wagner: Die Walküre - the
clarinet?s orchestral role?. A description of the clarinet parts by themselves is not
so easy; however I have now had a chance to work more closely with them and
to actually play them in performance. In my thesis, I would like to discuss the
leitmotifs played by the clarinet, as well as the problems and difficulty of the
clarinet parts. Most of these difficulties are in the part of the first clarinet, but
also in the interplay (co-ordination) between the first and the second clarinet.
That is why the analysis of some of the leitmotifs is specialized for the second act
of Siegfried and the first act of the Götterdämmerung. One of the difficulties of
these parts is the duration of each act, as they are very taxing physically. The
second difficulty is the intonation, not only between the clarinets, but also within
the whole orchestra. The third problem is the expression, and how to play the
individual leitmotifs stylistically. I would like to express thanks to Mr. John Fiore,
who prepared these operas with the orchestra of the National Theater and taught
us everything about the RING. He is a great conductor

Der Autor ist Professor Dr. phil. habil. Siegfried Weber, Prof. Emeritus der Technischen Universität Chemnitz, langjähriger Leiter des Wissenschaftsbereiches Deutsche Sprache
innerhalb der Sektion Fremdsprachen, Professor für Deutsch als Fremdsprache der Technischen Universität Chemnitz (bzw. Technischen Hochschule Karl-Marx-Stadt bis 1992).
Der Autor verstarb am 22. August 2018 im Alter von 90 Jahren in Halle (Saale).
In seinen letzten Lebensjahren arbeitete er mit großer Leidenschaft an diesem Studienbuch. Es ist die Essenz seiner jahrzehntelangen Berufserfahrung als Deutschlehrer für
Fremdsprachler. Leider war es ihm nicht vergönnt, die Veröffentlichung dieser Arbeit zu erleben. Seiner Familie ist es ein großes Anliegen, dieses Werk posthum der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen.
Siegfried Weber hinterließ ein 420seitiges Manuskript. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der Anteil, den seine Frau Gisela an diesem Werk hat. Sie redigierte, solange es ihre Gesundheit
zuließ, in mühevoller Arbeit mehr als die Hälfte des Manuskripts. Sie verstarb etwa ein Jahr nach ihrem Ehemann. In den Jahren 2019 bis 2021 vervollständigte und redigierte der Bruder des Autors, Dr. Rudolf Weber, das Manuskript soweit, dass es nun in Gänze digital vorliegt. Korrekturen und Verbesserungen konnten zwangsläufig nicht vorgenommen werden, so dass wir die Leserschaft bitten, etwaige Fehler und Mängel zu berücksichtigen und zu entschuldigen.
Dieses Studienbuch kann als Hilfe und Anleitung dienen für die fundierte und wissenschaftliche Herangehensweise bei der Vermittlung der deutschen Sprache in Berufen
und verschiedenen Fachgebieten durch Deutschlehrer in der Muttersprache, als auch in der Fremdsprache Deutsch.
Als Familie sind wir sehr zuversichtlich, dass das Werk seine Leser und Interessenten unter den Germanisten und Linguisten finden wird und auf diese Weise das Lebenswerk von Prof. Siegfried Weber vollendet wird.

Siegfried Weber, Prof. emeritus of the Technical University of Chemnitz, long-time head of the department of German language within the section of foreign languages, Professor of German as a foreign language at the Chemnitz University of Technology (or Karl-Marx-Stadt University of Technology until 1992).\u2028
The author passed away in Halle (Saale) on August 22, 2018, at the age of 90.\u2028 He spent the last years of his life working with great passion on this textbook. It is the essence
of decades of professional experience as a German teacher for foreign language learners.\u2028 Unfortunately, he died before finishing work on this book.\u2028
It is a great concern of his family to make this work available to the public posthumously.\u2028 Siegfried Weber left behind a 420-pages manuscript. Particularly noteworthy is the part his wife Gisela played in this work. As long as her health permitted, she laboriously edited more than half of the manuscript. She passed away about a year after her husband.\u2028
Between 2019 and 2021, the author's brother, Dr. Rudolf Weber, completed and edited the manuscript to the extent that it is now available digitally in its entirety. Inevitably, corrections and improvements could not be made, so we ask the readership to consider and excuse any errors and shortcomings.\u2028 This textbook can serve as an aid and guide to the sound and scholarly approach to teaching German in professions and various subject areas by teachers of German in the native language, as well as in German as a foreign language.\u2028
