Call and put implied volatilities and the derivation of option implied trees
No full textStandard methodologies for the derivation of implied trees from option prices are based on the validity of the put-call parity. Muzzioli and Torricelli (2002) propose a methodology which accounts for PCP violations. Based on this latter approach the present paper advances in two main directions. First we propose a different methodology in order to imply the interval of artificial probabilities at each node of the tree. Secondly, we perform an empirical validation of the implied tree obtained, both in the sample and out of sample, by using DAX index options data set covering the period from January 4, 1999 to December 28, 2000. Numerical results are compared with one of the most used standard methodologies, i.e. Derman and Kani’s. The results suggest that the estimation proposed, by taking into account the informational content of both call and put prices, highly improves both the in-the-sample fitting and the out-of-sample performance.Binomial Method; Put-Call Parity; Choquet Pricing; Interval Tree.

No full textArtykuł dotyczy zagadnienia projektowania elastycznych, skalowalnych i przyjaznych dla
użytkownika systemów integrujących rozproszone, heterogeniczne zasoby informacyjne. W artykule
starano się wykazać, że opracowanie takiego systemu jest bardziej złożone niż zaprojektowanie
rozwiązania tradycyjnego opartego na centralnej bazie danych. Omówiono architekturę modelu
integracyjnego oraz proces projektowania systemu opartego na tym modelu. Implementacja
takiego rozwiązania może przynieść organizacji szereg korzyści: łatwiejszy dostęp do wielu źródeł
informacji, dostęp dla uprzednio zdefiniowanych, jak i niezdefiniowanych użytkowników, możliwość
formułowania zapytań ad hoc, standaryzację dostępu do zasobów informacyjnych, dostęp do
informacji przechowywanych w różnych systemach w czasie rzeczywistym, ułatwienie kooperacji
pomiędzy partnerami biznesowymi. Jednak proces przygotowania systemu integrującego wymaga
opracowania modułów realizujących poszczególne zadania cząstkowe składające się na proces integracji
w niejednorodnym i rozproszonym środowisku, m.in.: opracowanie przyjaznego dla użytkownika
języka zapytań i sposobu formułowania zapytań, opracowanie struktury ontologii i metod jej
modyfikacji, przygotowania słowników, konwerterów zapytań czy integratorów.In the paper the problem of designing flexible, scalable and user-friendly systems integrating
distributed and heterogeneous information resources is described. It is justified that the elaboration
of such systems is more complex than in case of traditional solutions based on central database. The
example of the architecture of integrating model and the process of the creation of a system based on
the model are discussed. Implementation of such integrating system may give a considerable number
of benefits to organisation: easier access to various information resources, access for previously
defined and undefined users, the possibility to formulate ad hoc queries, standardisation of an access
to information resources, an access to data and information stored in various systems in real time,
the facilitation of cooperation between business partners. However, the process requires elaboration
of modules that perform individual tasks constituting the whole process of searching information resources
in heterogeneous and distributed sources, e.g.: elaboration of a user query language and the
method of queries formulation, establishing the structure of the ontology and methods of its on-line
modification, preparing dictionaries, queries converters and integrator module

Nowoczesne środki transportu w poezji tanka i haiku okresów Meiji i Taishō
No full textIn this article, the author focuses on the modernization of Japan dur- ing the Meiji and Taishō eras, as it was reflected in the traditional Japa- nese poetic forms of tanka and haiku. Emphasis is put on the thematic shift in poems at the turn of the century, and selected examples of po- ems are presented to demonstrate primarily the application of terms referring to the modern means of transport which were becoming more common in Japan at that time, and thus gradually penetrating even into literature, including the sphere of lyric poetry. The author believes that at the turn of the century, the objects of modern society – being part of the new Japanese state – also became a form of the “new nature” depicted in modern Japanese poetry.Artykuł przedstawia modernizację Japonii w okresach Meiji i Taishō, ukazaną w tradycyjnej japońskiej poezji tanka i haiku. Szczególny nacisk położono na tematyczny zwrot w poezji na przełomie wieków XIX i XX, a wybrane przykłady utworów mają przede wszystkim na celu pokazanie zastosowania terminologii związanej ze współczesny- mi środkami transportu, które stawały się coraz powszechniejsze w Ja- ponii tego okresu, a także jej stopniowe wnikanie nawet do literatu- ry, włączając w to sferę poezji lirycznej. Regularity of the Exercise Boundary for American Put Options on Assets with Discrete Dividends
No full textWe analyze the regularity of the optimal exercise boundary for the American Put option when the underlying asset pays a discrete dividend at a known time during the lifetime of the option. The ex-dividend asset price process is assumed to follow Black-Scholes dynamics and the dividend amount is a deterministic function of the ex-dividend asset price just before the dividend date. The solution to the associated optimal stopping problem can be characterised in terms of an optimal exercise boundary which, in contrast to the case when there are no dividends, may no longer be monotone. In this paper we prove that when the dividend function is positive and concave, then the boundary is non-increasing in a left-hand neighbourhood of , and tends to as time tends to with a speed that we can characterize. When the dividend function is linear in a neighbourhood of zero, then we show continuity of the exercise boundary and a high contact principle in the left-hand neighbourhood of . When it is globally linear, then right-continuity of the boundary and the high contact principle are proved to hold globally. Finally, we show how all the previous results can be extended to multiple dividend payment dates in that case.

No full textPandemia COVID-19 wymusiła liczne zmiany w wielu obszarach życia ludzkiego. Społeczeństwo stanęło przed wyzwaniem zaadaptowania się do nowej rzeczywistości. Ze względu na obostrzenia ludzie zostali w domach, a wiele aspektów ich codziennej działalności przeniosło się do internetu. Komunikacja bezpośrednia została w znacznym stopniu wyparta przez komunikację na odległość, wzrosło użycie narzędzi cyfrowych, nastąpił rozwój mediów społecznościowych, które stały się kanałami komunikacji rodzin, zbiorowości akademickiej, środowisk pracowniczych czy różnych marek ze swoimi klientami. Internet jak nigdy dotąd odegrał znaczącą rolę w utrzymywaniu stosunków międzyludzkich. W artykule autorka dokonała ogólnego przeglądu tendencji w użytkowaniu i w procesie rozwoju mediów społecznościowych oraz internetu w czasie pandemii COVID-19, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tych kierunków w Polsce.The COVID-19 pandemic forced numerous changes in many areas of human life. Society faced the challenge of adapting to the new reality. Due to the restrictions, people stayed at home and many aspects of their everyday lives moved to the Internet. Direct communication was largely replaced by remote communication, the use of digital tools increased, and social media developed and become the main ways of communication between families, members of the academic community, work colleagues, and brands with their clients. The Internet played a more significant role in maintaining interpersonal relationships than ever before. In this paper, the author reviews trends in the usage and development of social media and the Internet during the COVID-19 pandemic, with particular emphasis put on the case of Poland
