Spinoza and the freedom of philosophizing
By Mogens Lærke Title: Spinoza and the Freedom of Philosophizing. Oxford: Oxford University Press, [forthcoming]. Author: LAERKE, Mogens. Senior Researcher / Directeur de recherche. CNRS, Maison Française d'Oxford / IHRIM ENS de Lyon In the seventeenth century, a new kind of public sphere emerged in the Dutch Republic. Courtly structures of political advice made room for new, republican forms of public consultation between the sovereign powers and the general citizenry. Missing, however..

Kirke Hyllinge and Snesere - Romanesque Twin Towers Recently Excavated
Mirator, 2015. Co-author: Mogens Vedsø. Romanesque twin towers in Danish village churches have long tradition of research. Two recent excavations in Kirke Hyllinge and Snesere have revealed archaeological traces of rectangular towers which in this article are compared to other examples from Denmark. Kirke Hyllinge church is an outstanding example of twin towers due to the length of the west-section of 16 meters. The only parallel is a planned three-aisled village church in the other end of the country. While for Snesere church the main question is the design of the top section, whether it was a twin tower or not

Prenatal exposure to antipsychotic medication and use of primary health care system in childhood: a population-based cohort study in Denmark
Anne Mette Lund Würtz,1,2 Claus Høstrup Vestergaard,1 Dorte Rytter,2 Merete Juul Sørensen,3 Jakob Christensen,4 Mogens Vestergaard,1,5 Bodil Hammer Bech1,2 1Research Unit for General Practice, 2Section for Epidemiology, Department of Public Health, Aarhus University, 3Regional Centre for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, 4Department of Neurology, Aarhus University Hospital, 5Section for General Practice, Department of Public Health, Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark Background: Antipsychotic (AP) medication is increasingly used for many health conditions. Prenatal exposure to AP medication has been associated with several adverse outcomes, but the findings remain inconsistent.Purpose: We aimed to investigate prenatal exposure to AP medication and the use of primary health care system in childhood.Subjects and methods: All live-born singletons in Denmark during 1997–2012 were identified in the nationwide Danish National Patient Register and followed until December 31, 2013 (n = 963,010). Information on prenatal exposure to AP medication was obtained from the Danish Register of Medicinal Product Statistics. Contacts to the general practitioner (GP) were used as a proxy for the overall health of the children. Negative binomial regression was used to calculate incidence rate ratios (IRRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association between prenatal exposure to AP medication and number and type of GP contacts, excluding routine well-child visits and vaccinations. The models were adjusted for sex and birth date of the child, maternal age, parity, cohabitation status, income, education, smoking status, diagnosis of substance abuse, severe psychiatric disorder, depression and epilepsy as well as the use of antiepileptic drugs, antidepressants, benzodiazepines and insulin. Results: The prenatally AP-exposed children had 7% more GP contacts than unexposed children, IRR: 1.07 (95% CI: 1.03, 1.11). The association was slightly stronger among children of mothers with no diagnosis of severe psychiatric disorder (IRR: 1.08, 95% CI: 1.04–1.13) than among children of mothers with severe psychiatric disorder (IRR: 1.03, 95% CI: 0.96–1.11), but the difference was not statistically significant. We found no difference between prenatally AP-exposed children and their unexposed siblings, IRR: 1.00 (95% CI: 0.97–1.04) for total contacts. Conclusion: Children of women using AP medication in pregnancy had more GP contacts in childhood than children of mothers not using AP medication. However, this might be explained by confounding from maternal behavior and mental illness. Keywords: antipsychotic medication, prenatal drug exposure, primary health care, general practitioner
Belo Monte - A Development Project?
This thesis has as its aim the examination of the processes of development for the Amazon region in Brazil. It looks at the current Brazilian development plan, the Growth Acceleration Plan 2, and PAC-2. According to the Brazilian government, the PAC- 2 contains a range of measures of economic nature, with the aim of maintaining economic stability in compliance with sustainability and international agreements. It comprises the construction of large projects such as roads, oil platforms, and large-scale hydroelectric dams. My investigation focuses on a specific project known as The Hydroelectric Complex of Belo Monte, which is being built on the Xingu River. The aim is to both analyze the challenges of the current energy demand in Brazil, having concepts as development, sustainability, and ecological sustainable development as guidelines, and to consider the potential implications that this socio-economic development project is going to have for the environment and the communities living by the Xingu River, including indigenous and riverside communities. My overall aim is to understand the clashes that the above mentioned concepts may generate in the context of Belo Monte. I apply academic debates and approaches forming a theoretical stance: firstly, by conceptualizing and discussing what is perceived by the concept of development as a global concern, but also as local, having the current situation in Brazil as its main focus. Secondly, by applying Buch-Hansen’s approach, which suggests a re-conceptualization of development, by proposing a combination of three paths (avenues), in order to create a development model that can be democratic towards a global population, respect an ecological finite planet, and also, henceforth, gradually will allow us to define an all-embracing new concept of development. I propose a combination of qualitative research, having a focus on a case study on Belo Monte. Here, primary and secondary sources are combined in order to gather empirical material necessary for making a solid and well-rounded analysis. Belo Monte is not the first controversial hydroelectric dam to be built in Brazil, but it is certainly unique due to great controversies and actors involved, and it also illustrates the current socio-economic and political dynamics that are taking place in Brazil.
